Chapter 2 - The spark soon to spread

Kev, not at all compelled to triumph another day at school manages to yank his leg over his thin, pale duvet. His room was flourishing with the anticipation to be full, yet was more bare than a broken TV.

Coming out of his room, he was met with the same, boring layout of his apartment. A kitchen towards the left, where the doorway and main hallway stood, frozen in time. A decently sized dark, navy blue couch, spread wide enough to fit at least 5 people, sat next to the kitchen, with a stoutish coffee table to slightly spruce up the apartment. Next to both the kitchen and the front door there was a bathroom, fitted with a dark blue door, enshrouded with a nebulous window - impossible to see through.

Finally, there were two windows that crafted a makeshift sliding door, that lead towards a small rectangular balcony.

He traversed towards the bathroom, before hastily preparing for another day. Especially after sampling a short evocation about the fact Suzuki could be waiting for him. Afterall she could be his ticket for an adventure.

This was the first time Kev had ever gone out of his way to do something so quixotic... Stamping his two decently sized feet onto his dark brown 'welcome mat', he peered to his right. There she was. Dangling her chest over the concrete fence, Kev noticed her fingers vigorously jolting left to right on her phone, shielded by a bright pink case.

Not the kind of phone case someone I thought someone like her would have... But I've only know her for a day. Whatever.

That wasn't the only peculiar thing he had noticed. He spotted that she was talking to her mother from the subtle moment he got a glimpse of her contact list.

If she's still in contact with her mother... How come she doesn't live with her?

Suzuki shifted her head backwards. noticing Kev, she regained her usual posture, before Kev decided to break the thin ice.

"I see you waited." He said.

"I was just texting my... brother." she responded in her usual distant tone.

First of all; ouch. And secondly, Kev wandered why she would lie about something like that...

Embarrassed to say you were talking to your mother? Kev guessed within his mind.

After jolting out from the elevator and wandering past the local park, Kev decided to try his luck.

"So... You have a brother?"

"I suppose."

Jeeze.

--

Kev was desperate for her to connect a follow-up question, but simply blanked him.

Perhaps I should give up. Seems as if she truly doesn't care...

Kev wandered his eyes down towards Suzuki's body, plastering one question to the front of his mind.

Wait... Why the hell is she covering her face?

Downwards to Kev, Suzuki was (for some reason) covering her face, although it was already covered. Her thin palms grappled towards her face. The same face that wore a mask and bangs that covered her eyes...

"D-do you have a sibling?" She muttered.

S-she said something...

Kev stopped. Processing the sentence he had previously started.

Got too carried away...

"Nah." It was the first time Suzuki had seen Kev not give a lengthened statement that would go on for minutes.

They continued to school as normal. As the bells clung together to harmonize a rattling sensation - it was already lunch.

Halfway through the school day... Thank you god.

Cramping together what seemed to be slob onto his plate, he wandered around with only one objective - somewhere to eat. He felt a tranquil bump on his back. As he lingered his eyes down towards his back - it was Suzuki, holding what seemed to be a homemade meal.

They both peered back at each-other - this was the first time they'd interacted in school.

He kneeled down, humming his hand over Suzuki's bangs.

"You should cut them off. You may trip and hurt yourself real bad, y'know?" Said Kev, being met with silence, as they both stood in front of each-other without a word to say.

--

"Wanna... Go sit?" Asked Kev.
