Fenric stepped inside the quiet house, the wooden floor creaking slightly underfoot. The air here felt different—heavy with mana, yet serene. He moved toward the center of the room where the summoning circle lay hidden beneath an enchanted wooden panel.
With a whisper in the fairy tongue, the panel shimmered and faded away, revealing the intricate Spirit Summoning Circle etched deep into the floor. It glowed faintly with dormant runes, etched in patterns only spirit mages could truly understand. The circle pulsed gently, waiting to be awakened.
This was no ordinary circle—it was a Connection Gate to the Spirit Plane, carved from Spirit magic and enhanced by Mavis's affinity with the elemental realms. It resonated with spiritual frequencies and was capable of forging powerful contracts with spirits.
Fenric stepped into the circle without hesitation.
The Fairy King Ring on his finger began to glow with a soft red light as soon as he entered.
He began to chant—not just any chant, but one in the language of fairies, a tongue known to enhance chances of obtaining the best contract possible.
The magic around him reacted.
Runes lit up across the circle in a ripple, flaring to life in vibrant colors—crimson, silver, deep indigo. Mana surged upward in currents, swirling around him like an unseen wind. The connection to the Spirit Plane was stabilizing, growing stronger.
Then, as the last verse left his lips, Fenric bit his thumb, letting a drop of blood fall directly into the center of the circle.
The blood sizzled as it hit the runes—reacting not with heat, but with raw spiritual energy.
"I, Fenric vaelthorn Vareldis, bearer of the Fairy King Ring, call upon the spirit who hears my voice, who resonates with my soul—come forth and show thyself!"
The entire house trembled slightly.
The lake outside shimmered, the trees beyond rustled unnaturally—and from the center of the circle, a vortex of light began to form.
The Spirit Plane had answered.
Now... the question remained: Which spirit would answer his call?
From the summoning circle, a shadow began to rise—at first faint, then immense and commanding. Only a massive head emerged at first, its shape draconic, adorned with shimmering silver scales that seemed to reflect the moonlight despite the absence of a moon.
Golden horns curled back from its crown, and its deep violet eyes glowed with wisdom beyond time.
"The space is too small for my full form to manifest," the dragon spoke, its voice female, ancient, and majestic, reverberating through the room like a sacred hymn.
The mighty head faded away in silvery light—and then, as if condensed from moonbeams and stardust, a new form appeared within the circle.
Standing tall and proud was a woman, ethereal in beauty, with long, flowing silver hair and deep violet eyes that seemed to pierce through the soul. Her robe shimmered like the surface of a tranquil lake under moonlight, and behind her, a translucent crescent-shaped dragon wing formed from pure spirit energy.
"So... you are the one who called me," she said, her tone curious and dignified. "I am the Spirit King of Moons—Lunar Dragon, Lunaria Avernus."
Her name echoed in Fenric's mind like thunder muffled by clouds.
Fenric's lips parted slightly in awe as he processed her words.
'So… my highest affinity is Moon Element…' he thought, his eyes narrowing in intrigue. He hadn't expected this—no one could. Not even in the original book was such a spirit mentioned.
The world was vast, and its elements even vaster. While most were familiar with pure elements like fire, water, earth, wind, and even rare ones like light or darkness—there also existed hybrid elements, born from a fusion of multiple affinities, shaped and awakened by the will, intent, and soul of the summoner.
The Moon Element was one such rare hybrid—a convergence of Light, Darkness, Ice, and Charm. It was an element of subtlety and mystery, grace and destruction, illusions and truth.
An element born from both beauty and danger—like the moon itself.
"You are unique," Lunaria said softly, walking gracefully toward him within the bounds of the circle. "I sense... ambition, pain, pride, and restraint. Your blood carries power from both Sun and Moon. Yet your spirit calls to the moon."
Fenric bowed slightly, placing one hand over his heart.
"I, Fenric Vaelthorn, seek to form a contract. Will you walk with me?"
The Lunar Dragon narrowed her eyes, studying him intensely.
"Convince me, Fenric Vaelthorn," she said with a cryptic smile. "For I do not bind myself to mortals so easily…"
And so, the true trial of Spirit Contract was about to begin.
"What do you want from your contractor?" Fenric asked, his voice calm—but inwardly, he was still reeling.
He had been expecting the Dark Spirit King, just like in the original story. After all, Drake—in the original timeline—had succeeded in forming a contract with the Dark Spirit King Arehinde using a Dark Phoenix Core, a powerful treasure passed down from his mother's side.
But things had taken a different turn.
He had been chosen—no, summoned—the Spirit King of Moons, something far rarer and more unpredictable.
Lunaria, the Lunar Dragon, tilted her head slightly. A soft hum escaped her lips, echoing with a faint chime, like moonlight brushing across water.
"I do not ask for objects of power," she said softly. "No stones, no cores, no offerings of blood or gold."
Fenric blinked in surprise. "Then… what is it you desire?"
"Knowledge," she said simply.
Fenric tilted his head, surprised again.
"I like to learn… anything new," Lunaria continued, her violet eyes glowing faintly. "If you can give me knowledge I deem worthy—something I do not already possess—within the next six months, then I will form a contract with you."
She said as she began to leave while saying " Just try to summon spirt again and through the mark I placed on you I will sense it and I will come to see if you brought the knowledge worthy enough to form a contract with me"
"Please wait… I might not live another month," Fenric said in desperation, watching Avernus begin to fade away. "At least… give me a temporary contract, so I can meet your condition."
Avernus paused mid-vanish. Her form shimmered back into focus as she looked at him with a calm, unreadable gaze. Slowly, she drifted closer until she stood right before him. Without a word, she raised a hand and placed her finger gently on his forehead.
