More than a dozen black shadows were rapidly approaching from the distance. Hayate and Miao's faces immediately turned pale. "The reinforcements from Kirigakure are here so quickly!!!"
A dark shadow flashed across Hayate's pale face. His vision had already begun to blur, and waves of sharp pain radiated from his eye sockets. "Damn it!!!" Unable to bear it, he covered his eyes with his hands.
"Finally, reinforcements have arrived!!!" The two ANBU from Konoha saw the approaching figures and couldn't help but flash looks of ecstatic relief. Their expressions then turned cruel as they glared at the utterly exhausted Hayate and Miao.
In the blink of an eye, the dozen or so figures arrived in front of the two ANBU. They were all clad in standard Kirigakure ANBU attire, their eerie masks giving off an unsettling vibe. The air seemed to grow heavier, carrying with it a faint scent of blood.
Hayate leaped in front of Miao, shielding him behind his back. "Father!!!" Miao looked at his father's swaying, weakened body with deep concern, calling out softly.
"It's fine. It's just the aftermath of overusing the Sharingan," Hayate said between labored breaths, forcing a faint smile toward Miao's worried face.
"Aftermath of overusing the Sharingan?" Miao was momentarily stunned, recalling what his father had once told him about the secrets of the Sharingan.
"What happened to you two?! How could you end up in such a sorry state?!" The leader of the newly arrived group of ANBU coldly addressed the two battered Konoha ANBU.
"Captain!!! Hurry and kill them! They're from the Uchiha clan of Konoha!!! They must be spies sent by Konoha to Water Country!! Both of them possess the Sharingan!!! The rest of our team was killed by them!" one of the injured ANBU shouted toward the captain, his voice filled with hatred.
"Konoha shinobi? Uchiha?!" The ANBU captain was visibly shocked upon hearing this. A greedy glint soon appeared in his eyes. If they could obtain the Sharingan of the Uchiha clan, it would be an invaluable asset for Kirigakure—just like how Kirigakure had unexpectedly acquired a Byakugan from the Hyuga clan on the battlefield years ago. That Hyuga ninja had contributed greatly to Kirigakure's war efforts, becoming one of their core forces. Unfortunately, it seemed that the same Hyuga had later betrayed the village and joined the rebels.
"Uchiha!!!" The remaining Kirigakure ANBU were astonished. Why would members of the Uchiha clan appear in Water Country? Then realization dawned on them, and their gazes turned greedy as they looked at Hayate and Miao. Capturing their Sharingan would be a monumental achievement, and the Mizukage would surely reward them handsomely.
Feeling the weight of their stares, Hayate let out a soft sigh. A flicker of resolve hardened in his eyes as he made his decision. "It seems I won't be leaving here alive today. But even if I die, I must ensure Miao escapes!!!"
"Try to capture them alive if possible!!! If not, killing them is acceptable. Most importantly, do NOT let them destroy their own eyes!!! Understood?!!!" the ANBU captain barked coldly.
"Understood!!!" The dozen masked ANBU responded in unison, drawing the large swords from their backs. Their icy gazes locked onto Hayate and Miao.
"Miao, go first!! I'll deal with them and catch up to you immediately!!!" Hayate urgently instructed Miao.
"I'm not leaving!!! If we go, we go together!!!" Miao's voice was firm, leaving no room for negotiation. "Sigh…" Hayate exhaled deeply. He knew Miao's stubborn personality well enough to realize he wouldn't abandon him now. With a loving gaze, Hayate looked at his son and slowly spoke, "There's still so much I want to say to you, but it seems that's no longer possible."
Hearing these words, Miao felt a sense of foreboding. His expression shifted, but before he could respond, Hayate interrupted him. Hayate gazed deeply at Miao, as if trying to memorize his son's face forever. Then, in a calm voice, he said, "This will be my final lesson to you—and the last thing I can do as your father. Watch closely!! This is the true power of the Uchiha clan!!!"
"The true power of the Uchiha clan!? Could it be…?!!!" Miao's face changed dramatically. Suddenly, he activated his Sharingan. Through it, he could clearly see the small amount of chakra remaining in Hayate's body begin to boil furiously. Hayate's presence began to shift, and his crimson Sharingan emerged, the three tomoe spinning rapidly within his eyes.
"Attack!!!" the ANBU captain roared. The dozen ANBU surged forward like lightning toward Hayate, who stood defiantly in the distance.
Hayate's expression remained unchanged as the three tomoe in his crimson Sharingan spun faster and faster. To Miao's astonishment, the tomoe gradually connected, forming an incredibly bizarre pattern.
It was a triangular shape. The three tomoe formed an equilateral triangle within the eye socket, each corner linking to the edges of the eye. Extending from the sides of the triangle were three cylindrical shapes connecting to the edges of the eye socket. It bore some resemblance to Uchiha Madara's Mangekyō Sharingan, but upon closer inspection, the differences were stark.
"So this is the Mangekyō Sharingan?!! No wonder Father said using the Sharingan came with immense side effects, and his eyes are nearly blind now. He truly is one of the Uchiha who has awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan!!!" Miao stared blankly at the Mangekyō Sharingan in his father's eyes, utterly overwhelmed by the revelation. His own eyes trembled slightly, and the power of his own Sharingan seemed suppressed—even though the target wasn't aimed at him.
"What is that?!!" The ANBU charging forward with their swords froze, their expressions shifting. They had seen the transformation in Hayate's Sharingan but were unaware of the existence of the Mangekyō Sharingan. A creeping sense of unease settled in their hearts. Still, they were almost upon Hayate now, and capturing those eyes meant achieving great merit.
"Come. Let me show you the true power of the Uchiha clan!!!" Hayate said coldly, his pupils dilating sharply.
