The tittered in, their face full of ill concealed malice.
"Karma?" Angelina asked incredulously, her eyes widening. "Surely it couldn't be…"
"The little book worm!" Julie finished.
The twin had a very nasty habit of finishing each other's sentence. It was so annoying that spending a minute with them feels like a divine punishment.
"Karma! It's you. It's really you." She hurried closer examining her from head to toe as one would examine a lab rat.
"Nice to meet you and all that. I see you're a bridesmaid too." Very much to her disgust.
Veronica watched the exchange keenly, her sharp eyes trailing each movement. The twin crowded Karma, circling like predator hunting.
"Good morning!" Veronica's voice was injected with a large dose of false cheer. She moved closer to Karma, her smile firmly intact.
"I don't think we've been introduced. I'm Veronica." She stretched her hands for a shake.
Angelina and Julie did this weird twin communication thingy that made Karma fiercely want to bash their head in.
They stared at the stretched fingers a minute longer than necessary.
"I'm Angelina and this is Julie." Angelina snatched away her fingers before they could touch Veronica's.
Veronica raised her brows at the obvious display of rudeness. She really couldn't help but be amused. Being a bitch was a course she'd particularly excelled at.
They would see whose qualification is higher.
"Where is the bride?" Angelina gushed. "I can't wait.."
"To see her! It's been so long ago." Julie giggled.
Veronica smiled to herself.
"She's in the changing room." Karma replied grumpily.
The twins made themselves at home, they sat primly on the comfortable look leather chair.
They stared at the rows of dresses and their obscene price tag.
"I heard Seraphina is getting married to Ethan." Julie's began in a deceptively soft voice.
Her smile had a mocking edge. She flicked a glance at Karma.
Karma gripped the edge of the chair tightly. She smiled widely at them.
"Who would have thought that Ethan would leave Karma for Seraphina?" Angeline's theatrical whisper fooled no one.
Karma placed her hand on Veronica's arm. She looked readily to do them some bodily harm.
What more? They twins were always in their own little bubble brewing with malicious comments no doubt, but they mostly pretend the existence of other people are strictly secondary.
"Can you blame him though?" Julie giggled. "Have you seen how gorgeous Seraphina is?"
"Yeah yeah. Remember how Karma used to chase Ethan's around then?"
"She was such a lose girl with her favors. Lack of familial love or something like that."
Veronica stood up swiftly with anger brimming in her face, Karma clamped her hands firmly on her arms.
She shook her head.
"They're going too far!" She pointed at the twins who were fully absorbed with each other.
"It's really of no use." Karma soothed.
Karma knew what the twins were capable of doing as she was a first hand recipient of their bullying experiment for several years.
"I heard Karma begs Ethan for sex! How utterly shameless!" Angelina
"Brazen,"
"Stupid!"
"Shut your fucking mouth you idiots! That's my cousin you're talking about." Veronica finally had enough.
Angelina look mildly impressed. She glanced at Julie and they both giggled.
"Oh please. Karma couldn't even contradict what I said. It's the truth isn't it? Isn't it Karma?" She smiled sweetly at Karma.
Karma said nothing, focusing on taking deep breaths. Inhale. Exhale.
Inhale through her nose.
"It's not like it's really a news. Everyone knows Karma cannot hold a candle to Seraphina. Why do you think she was abandoned by her father?" Julie scoffed.
Angelina nodded in assent.
Veronica walked menacingly close to the twins, she leaned down beside them.
"I know your kind," She said in a low voice. "The insecure ones who can only feel good about themselves by bringing other people down."
Veronica grabbed a ballpen from the table, in a minute something happened.
Karma forgot the rhythm of her breathing exercise. She breathed in the foul of smell of the human trash through her nose, and breathed out fire to incinerate them.
"Wanna talk about cheap favors, Julie?" Karma's cool facade slid off her face like it wasn't there.
Julie and Angelina both stood up and stared down at Karma.
"What about that time when a bunch of football players gangbanged you so you could take some pictures to brag on the internet?" Karma said in a low voice.
The twins spluttered, their face turning hot crimson.
"My sister have never…" Angelina couldn't finish her sentence.
"And that time when lecturer was tired of that community hole you have under skirt and he refused to give you the grades you wanted so you had to steal money from me?"
"Oh, I knew you guys were trash. But I at least thought you'll be a reusable one." Karma said.
"Clocked your tea, didn't she?" Veronica cackled gleefully.
"You don't know what you're talking about." The twins shouted together.
"I never…"
"I have never.."
"Not even once did I…" .
"Now you've turned into doddering idiots." Karma said sympathetically.
Julie ran out the mall crying loudly.
Angelina wailed, her long nails pointing viciously at Karma.
"I'll get you for this. I promise you."
She stormed out furiously, calling out for her sister.
"Cousin…remind not to ever ever get in your bad grace." Veronica said amidst guffaws.
She finally wheezed to a stop and placed her hands on her chest. She wiped the tears from her eyes.
Karma was shaking with anger, she balled her fingers into a fist.
"i've finally found the one." Seraphina glided out not even a minute later.
The manager looking like he had aged a few more years. The two staffs had their arms full of the wedding gown.
She looked at the twin angry looks ok Karma and Veronica's faces.
"What happened?" She asked Karma who d
idn't reply fast enough for her liking.
"Something happened didn't it?" she stared from Karma to Veronica.
"Where did the twins go?" She asked.
"The trash bin. Right where they belong." Veronica replied coldly.
