Chapter 13 - The Orientation

"The orientation is commencing soon. We have been instructed to make our way to the staging hall."

"Okay. So early."

They soon followed the flood of people that rushed down the hallway.

In a few minutes, they were all sitted in the hall awaiting the General.

They didn't spend much time waiting for him. He walked up the stage stairs and picked up the mic. He was gonna make it as brief as he could.

"Students of Syllox Academy, I congratulate you for your success in your awakening test. You truly do deserve to be here. Give yourselves are round of applause."

The crowd let out a wave of synchronous applause before the general opted them to stop after a prolonged one.

"Okay. That's enough everyone."

The general insisted on laying appreciation first but now he could get down to the primary reason of the gathering.

"I truly am amazed. This particular generation holds the key to transform this institution, I can feel it."

"He has probably says that to everybatch that comes in here," Xavier thought.

"I will try to make this assembly as brief as possible. First of all, your classes will commence tomorrow and you will be moving out of the dorms into your very own houses."

The crowd erupted on hearing the later information. "We each get houses. That so cool."

The general gave a brief pause while still trying to calm the crowd. "Yes, you each get houses. Okay, that enough of that. Next are your courses."

He pulled out a piece of paper and began to call out the courses for each day in chronological order "First in that day, you have history classes from 8am to 9am. Second will be your element class which will stretch from 9am to 11pm. Your break is on next for only half an hour. Thirdly, you'll be having your electives. I will like to emphasize on this a little bit."

The general lifted his eyes from the paper and decided to dissolve the mystery behind the electives he has created.

"They are four major elective courses. You must offer at least one or more of these courses. One is Alchemy. This is basically utilization of herbs and other magical organics to special advantages. It could be for healing, enhancing abilities or any other thing you choose to use it for. Another elective is Forge mastering. Here, you explore the art of creating magical weapons with special metal and magical enhancements. Next is beast taming. Beast taming is a special kind of bond between a magical creatures and a human, one that seems unbreakable. You can even feel what the animal is feeling and can probably hear him speak, I really don't know though some say it's true."

'Those people must have really been hit in the head.'

He gave a little heave to let out some cummulated pressure and continued seconds later. "Last is rune making. I saved this for last cause I myself took part in the exquisite art of rune making. Runes are specific drawings or inscription made to perform a huge deal of magic. It has quite a vast number of use."

The general swiftly moved his fingers in the air, lines of magic could be seen being traced in the plane, he then pushed the magic circle in their direction as it boosted in size before letting out a drizzle of light and flower ."From conjuring things up to enhancing your gear. It's a multi-purpose tool which can be helpful in any situation. I wouldn't want to sway your decision so you are still free to make your choices. This class will run from 11.30pm to 2pm"

Mummurs could be heared in the crowd amazed by spectacular performance the general had just revealed.

"Last class for each day would be–", he said while hurriedly trying to pull out the piece of paper he left in his pocket.

"–General Weapon classes. Another one of my favorites. This will stretch through 2pm to 4pm. You can wield any weapon of your choice. Katanas, maces, axes, you name it , Syllox's got it all. So you will be having classes four days in a week with each elective running once a week in the order I have just called them in. The last working is usually reserved for a special activity."

Midway through the address, some people cut through the crowd and began hand out devices that resembled some kind of jewellery.

"Another, thing we need to talk about are your comms. I believe that they should be going round. Those devices in your hands are your comms. You are to lock your comms onto your right arm. They can be used to make calls with the campus or between other comms. They also manage your credits which is the unit of currency here. When not in use it will display a number, your student ID."

All put on their comms and began to explore through the various other tabs and functions the general missed out in his explanation.

"Now, to address another issue. You do know that up until now that everything has been free so far, well not any more. As you walk through that door on your way out you are gonna welcome your new life of independence."

Though most students were still absorbed in the delght of their new device, the tragic news still managed to cut through their engrossment.

"Yes, trading is allowed as some of you may already be asking but let me give you the rules bordering your trade. Under no circumstances are you expected to be trading while classes are going on, neither are you to sell any fake or dangerous products. Duping or scamming is most definitely not tolerated."

Xavier smiled on hearing this. 'Guess that's off the prank list.'

"You can also recommend your services for credits. Outside your own personal trade and services, there are also academy risen clubs and institutions oriented towards earning. They is a mutualistic benefit for the school as well as the student. Like the Syllox Force. Members of the Syllox Force are students of the academy though some members are ex's. Though its quite dangerous to indulge in especially for you freshers, besides its attractive credits it also creates an environment for you to guage your skill with those of other years and interact more with them to better your skills."

Xavier, on just hearing the words 'Syllox force' was already captivated. 'I think I'll join that. Who needs to work when you can train and earn at the same time.'

"For students, indulgence in these institutions and clubs activities are reserved for the last working day – the day after the day they have rune making as their elective. Any other questions?"

They were a few hands in the air.

The general was about to point one of them but was interrupted by a noise coming from the outside.
