The crowd was gone, but the energy still hummed through the air like leftover music. Summer twilight bled gold across the fields, and fireflies had started blinking near the edges of the goat pen.
Charlotte stood near the entrance tent, cheeks flushed, ponytail falling loose. Her arms ached from stirring, waving, and high-fiving half the county, but she couldn't stop smiling. It had been a hit. A massive, sweaty, vegetable-scented hit.
"Thank you for coming!" she called to the last few guests heading toward the parking lot. One older woman blew her a kiss. Another woman mouthed, "You saved me."
Charlotte blinked back the sudden sting in her eyes.
Behind her, the clean-up was in full swing.
