Chapter 7 - Old Friend and New Disciple?

(Goku P.O.V)

Today was a really fun day, grandpa and I we left yesterday morning to see the sea, we camped and I was able to see a new technique that creates a shiny knife with energy, today we arrived at the sea and I was able to see what grandpa's flying technique was like, I always saw him practice, grandpa said that we were going to meet his old master, when I saw the other old man I couldn't believe that that fragile looking old man trained grandpa, I challenged him and was defeated with just two blows that put me to sleep! When I woke up, Grandpa said we were leaving, the old man who trained Grandpa told me that Grandpa could give me one more name, now I have two names! I also got a magical cloud called Kintoun that can fly super fast, but I'm still going to learn grandpa's flying technique.

Now we are going to another place, I was following grandpa who was flying in front, while the cloud followed grandpa I continued to observe the surroundings, I saw how small things looked from up here and how quickly they passed by, it didn't take long until we reached the beach we were on this morning, I was curious where we were going.

"Grandpa, where are we going?" I screamed. "You said we were going to see a friend of yours, but this looks like the same beach as this morning!" I kept shouting for Grandpa to hear.

Grandpa turned his head towards me and started to slow down, when he was next to me he said.

"We are going to visit a friend of mine who trained with me a long time ago, his name is Gyumao and from what I heard he is some kind of king from a mountain called Pleasant Mountain, the name may have changed as it has been a long time since I left Paozu Mountain." Grandpa said. "We are heading there now, and the beach you just saw is not the same as the one we were on this morning, it is further east, we are heading further west now, we should pass close to the Devil's Desert, I intend to see the area so we can train for a while!" Grandpa finished.

The beaches are very similar with the yellow earth, but, as grandpa said, this wasn't the same beach as this morning apparently, grandpa's friend lives near this Devil's Desert, I don't know what a desert is, however, it must be a good place to train, since grandpa wants to use one for my training.

The journey continued in silence, the beaches and strange trees, the palm trees as grandpa called them, disappeared, giving way to a dry land full of mountains, looking to the side I could see what grandpa called the Devil's Desert, from what grandpa said about the place was that there were a lot of bad people who lived in groups called criminal gangs and warlords, who fight for territory and treasures, grandpa said that I couldn't be like them.

Looking ahead I could see a strong glow, I thought it could be the sun, but I knew the sun was right above me as it was still in the middle of the day, there was only one option left as to what the strong glow would be.

"Grandpa, how can there be a fire here if there are no trees?" I asked.

It was normal to have some fires in the Paozu Mountains, they were quite far away and ended quickly, but it was easy to see from the height where our house was.

"Some fires don't need trees to happen!" Grandpa said with a serious expression.

I rarely saw Grandpa with that expression, he only showed it when he was scolding me or warning me about something.

"Let's increase our speed Goku, we can see what's happening faster!" Grandpa said, increasing his speed a lot.

It didn't take long for me to almost lose sight of grandpa, I asked Kintoun to speed up more to keep up with grandpa, although the feeling of the wind is normally very good, at this speed it was a little uncomfortable.

(Gohan P.O.V)

I completely forgot about the fire on Gyumao's mountain, sometimes he's incredibly stupid, who asks to set fires around his property? I thought that since it was a long time before the events of Dragon Ball he wouldn't have made this request to a wizard, but the events only happen in 9 years, when Goku is 12 years old, and Oolong said that 10 years ago a fire spirit fell on Pleasant Mountain and started an endless fire, Gyumao must have contacted the wizard at some point this year for things to be like this.

At the speed I was at, it didn't take long to arrive at the now known Fry-pan Mountain, a violent fire appeared in front of me, I was meters away, but the heat was still intense even from far away, I could feel Gyumao's ki next to a minor ki Outside the mountain, Goku was next to me still on top of the Kintoun, it was obvious that the heat was slightly bothering him.

"My friend is away from the mountain, we can go look for him to see how he is and find out more about the fire!" I said, I wanted to know if Gyumao asked a wizard to make the fire or if it was something else starting the fire, at this point I wasn't focusing so much on my knowledge of Dragon Ball's work.

"How do you know that Gyu-Gyu May?… How do you know that your friend is not on the mountain?" Goku asked, it was fun to see my grandson mispronounce Gyumao's name.

"I felt his energy, it's something you'll learn after you learn to fly." I said.

The confusion on Goku's face was visible, he probably didn't understand what I meant by feeling the energy, I led the way to the place where I felt Gyumao's energy, Goku followed me in silence, now he was sitting on the Kintoun while observing the environment, my grandson might be a little unaccustomed to the Kintoun.

A few minutes of walking passed until we were very close to Gyumao, it was only 2 or 3 meters until we reached him, while I was thinking about what to say to greet my old friend, I suddenly felt the movement of his ki, he felt my presence, but it seemed like he didn't recognize it, he came running towards us, normally I would be angry at being attacked like that, but I wanted to see how my old companion's combat skills were.

"Goku step back a little!" I told my grandson, who despite the confusion obeyed my request.

Right after I said this to Goku, I could feel the blow coming towards me behind me, as I was still looking at Goku I could see the reaction of surprise changing to alarm.

"BE CAREFUL GRANDPA!" Goku shouted.

I stepped to the side, getting out of the way of the attack without much effort, I could see the ax passing by and I could hear the wind howling with the blow, this attack hit the ground causing cracks and a slight tremor, a few months ago this blow could take me by surprise, Gyumao also kept himself in slightly good shape.

"YOU DISGRACED THUGS, YOU CAME TO STEAL MY TREASURE!!!" Gyumao's voice was unmistakable.

The four-meter giant screamed openly, the idiot mistook me for a bandit, not that I blame him, living next to the Devil's Desert would make anyone paranoid, in my youth that place was a place where robbery or murder happened every 1 minute.

"You should see an optician Gyumao, how can you think I'm a thief!" He said calmly.

I could see that Gyumao had just pulled out the ax and was preparing to attack once again, he just didn't attack again because he recognized my voice, now there he was, locked in place, his expression changed from a look of anger to recognition.

"G-Gohan! My old friend! How are you?" Said Gyumao, he threw his ax on the ground and quickly walked forward, wrapping me in a hug.

"I'm fine…" He said in a muffled voice, receiving a hug from a four-meter giant is not pleasant.

"This is the first time you've come to visit me!" Gyumao said, putting me down.

"I don't come because I like the nature of Paozu Mountain…" I said. "And it seems that living near the Devil's Desert has made you very neurotic, you came straight to attack me!" I said feigning irritation.

"he he he he…." Gyumao laughed shyly, he seemed sorry for the attack.

I stared at him for a few moments, he tried to escape my clearly uncomfortable gaze, but he quickly gave in.

"Right... I'm sorry about that! It hasn't been easy with those troublemakers trying to rob me every half hour..." My friend said with a frustrated sigh.

"Is that why the mountain is on fire too?" I asked.

"In part, I hired a wizard to set fire to protect my treasure and family… My wife died three years ago, right after giving birth, I called a wizard to create a wall of fire to scare the thieves, the fire was also to protect my daughter from these desert bandits, but it got out of control, luckily I managed to get the servants and my daughter out of the castle in time…" Gyumao said.

"That fire wasn't a smart idea, you know? You could have asked for a barrier that would stop those with malicious hearts from crossing or something different." I said, the alternative I just suggested hit Gyumao like a slap in the face. "So what are you going to do about the fire?" I asked.

"I was thinking about meeting the master to lend me Bashosen…" He said, still looking away.

"Knowing the master, he must have dropped something on Bashosen…" I said.

Gyumao sighed, he knew well how clumsy our master could be, the man was a great martial artist, but he was incredibly clumsy when he wasn't paying attention.

"What do I do then…" Gyumao said weakly.

I could see my friend's look of sadness.

"I can put out the fire with my Kamehameha!" I suggested

In my other life, this was a memorable moment for Master Roshi, but I had just left his house, going back there just for that seemed wrong, I also wanted to show the technique to my grandson.

"I would be forever grateful if you would do that!" Gyumao exclaimed, happy to be able to put out the fire.

"Grandpa, what is this Kamehameha?" Goku spoke up.

"It's a technique where I concentrate all my energy, compressing it so that it becomes stronger and then releasing it in the form of an energy beam, it's a technique that Master Roshi created after 100 years of training!" I said.

I could see the sparkle in the child's eyes, as well as I could see Gyumao finally noticing the child, but before my friend could say anything Goku spoke up first.

"Did that old man we visited teach you a secret technique?" Goku asked.

I could only laugh at my grandson's speech, I don't know where he got that the Kamehameha was a secret technique, but as the master hasn't used it for a long time, and as the knowledge of ki is not widely spread, the Kamehameha can then be considered a secret technique...

"Gohan, I didn't know you had children, for you to have a grandson and never mention anything like that..." Gyumao said in a depressing tone.

It brought me out of my thoughts, frankly, the sight of a 4 meter tall man crouched down in such a depressive manner might have gotten me a few laughs at another time, but now was not the time for that.

"I don't have children, you and the master thought the same thing, it's impressive…" I said in a dry tone. "I took in the child a few months ago!" I said.

"I see…" Gyumao said.

"Grandpa, are you going to show the old man's secret technique?" Goku asked.

"Yes, I will do it now!" I said.

I climbed a small wall that faced the direction of the burning mountain, I removed my qipao leaving my chest exposed, despite being in my 89th year, I am old, my body did not have wrinkles or the saggy skin commonly associated with such old age, my body was extremely well worked, muscles well defined but not so marked, a healthy physique and well worked for martial arts, all thanks to the internal ki circulation technique that helped me improve my health in general.

I began to gather my ki in my muscles, I felt my body pulsate with energy and become heavier, my movements were more limited due to the new muscle volume, this was the same muscular form that Master Roshi used in the first Kamehameha, I discovered how to use it a few months ago while experimenting with the internal use of ki, I could hear my grandson scream in surprise alongside Gyumao, my old friend had already seen our master use this way of using ki during a training session a long time ago.

"When did master teach Gohan this?" Gyumao muttered.

Despite being able to hear my old friend's doubts and my own grandson's screams of astonishment, I decided to ignore all of this and focus on my current work, my muscular form helped me to better concentrate my ki for the Kamehameha, I moved my hands forward and began to recite.

"THE..."

I felt my ki pulse in my muscles, I pulled my arms to my sides to form something similar to a shell using my hands.

"ME…"

I began to move my energy, withdrawing what I had accumulated in my muscles to create this muscular form, between my palms a faint blue glow began to appear.

"HA…ME…."

My ki was now completely gathered in my hands, the once faint blue glow now became a shining sphere that lit up the place in its radiance, I continued to compress all the energy I had gathered.

"HAAA!!" Then, when I felt that sphere of concentrated energy was close to giving way, I threw my arms forward, directing my attack at the burning mountain.

My Kamehameha traveled at a breakneck speed, the impact of the blue energy beam with the huge rocky body created a loud bang, the ground shook slightly, and when I stopped sustaining the energy of the attack, a huge cloud of dust resulting from the previous impact now dispersed revealing a flat terrain where there was a flaming mountain, Gyumao and my grandson were quiet, when I turned around I came across my old friend with his mouth open and my grandson with eyes shining in admiration, I looked back at where there was a burning mountain, my ki attack was enough to completely extinguish the central part of the mountain, I could see the rubble of Gyumao's castle falling and creating more smoke, at least my attack didn't pulverize my friend's money, he can still rebuild the place.

"GRANDFATHER!!" Goku shouted as he ran towards me breaking me out of my thoughts. "GRANDPA! You're going to teach me this move, right?" Goku asked excitedly.

"Hehehehe… Of course, but we just have to get better at your meditation!!" I said, sure, I knew my grandson could do a Kamehameha without having to get better at meditation, however, seeing his face show a grimace of disgust was a win in my book.

My attention turned to Gyumao, still with his jaw dropped by the display of my Kamehameha, his mouth moved as if he wanted to say something but without any sound coming out, it was funny in the first few seconds but after that it became quite worrying, in an act of kindness I slapped Gyumao in the face after he didn't answer me when I called him five times without having any success.

"That was a splendid Kamehameha, Son-kun!" Gyumao exclaimed when he woke up from my slap, I could see my handprint printed on his face.

"Thank you…" I said, uncomfortable with being praised by the person I just hit. "At least now don't ask a wizard to set fire around your house!" He said in a stern tone.

I watched Gyumao laugh weakly as he scratched the back of his head, I let out a sigh, we were silent as I thought about what to say now, however, my attention turned to my grandson, I saw him standing with his legs apart and his hands cupped, it was obvious what he was trying to do, I knew he could do it and I watched him perform his first Kamehameha, I wanted to have a camera to record the moment, unfortunately my isolation on a remote mountain like Paozu Mountain, far from big cities, no It helped me a lot at that moment.

"Kame… Hame… HAA!!!" My grandson screamed as he threw his hands forward, a small beam of blue energy appeared, too small to be very destructive, but large enough to knock down the stone wall in the opposite direction of the now extinct Fry-Pan Mountain.

"I ACHIEVED!!" My grandson shouted. "I didn't even need to improve my meditation!" He said looking at me with a big smile.

"Yes, but your Kamehameha was very weak and you don't even have the energy for a second right because you spent practically everything on that attack!" I said, I could see my grandson metaphorically wither. "For this we have to get better at meditation!" I said smiling.

My grandson looked at me clearly upset, Gyumao was behind me holding back his laughter, I could hear him snorting and trying to muffle his laughter with his hand.

"Congratulations on your first Kamehameha Goku! When we get back we can start training more to improve your skills in general and get rid of your tail's weakness!" I said smiling.

"Ah…I noticed that when I saw the boy, but why does your grandson have a tail?" Gyumao asked.

I looked at my colleague from the turtle school, I was going to tell him in a more personal environment, but as there was no one else around, this was a great opportunity to get a little revenge for the ax blow from before, I had checked the energy of all the people around this region to make sure there was no one around, I sat on the wall that was close to me and looked towards my friend with a serious face, obviously creating unnecessary suspense with the situation, Gyumao had a serious expression, I could even see a drop of sweat, I made sure to put on the most serious expression possible, Goku looked at me with a confused expression.

"He's a new kind of bald monkey!" I spoke. "I found him at a circus that passed through the mountain!" I continued my lie as if it was the most logical thing in the world.

"What?..." Gyumao said without knowing what to say.

"I AM NOT A MONKEY!!!" Goku shouted.

"Yes, he is not a monkey!" I agreed with my grandson.

I was having fun looking at my friend's confused expression, I could hear the metaphorical gears turning in his head until he showed a look of realization.

"Are you kidding me?" He said clearly annoyed.

"Yes!" I said. "But seriously now, Goku is an alien!" I said, I blurted out as if this was something normal.

"If you don't want to tell the truth, you should have just said it…" Gyumao said, clearly irritated and thinking I was playing another trick on him.

"This time it's serious, Goku is an alien!" I said.

"Try!" Gyumao these

"There is?" It was the only thing I could say.

"Show me his ship!" Gyumao demanded.

"I can't take his ship out of nowhere!" I said. "I don't even have capsules to store things in!" I said.

"So you were lying again!" Gyumao nodded as if he had solved a major criminal case.

I could only grunt, Gyumao was as stubborn as a mule and it was always difficult to change what he thought was right in his head, honestly it was exhausting dealing with that part of him.

"Goku is a Saiyan, I met him a few months ago when I was going fishing, his ship crashed very close by and I took him in!" I said sincerely.

"That's right, I'm a Saiyan, not a bald monkey!" Goku said angrily, still believing I was serious.

I could see Gyumao pay attention to my grandson's statement and show signs of doubt.

"Are you serious? An alien?" Gyumao said, clearly intrigued.

"Yes, an alien, and it's not even the strangest thing that happened to me during this period…" I said.

"What's stranger than an alien?" Gyumao asked.

"Reincarnation…" I said.

Gyumao gaped, but I stood up before he could say anything.

"It's a little complicated, we can talk about it better at the place where you are staying, we can introduce your daughter Chichi to my grandson, he needs more friends his age!" I continued.

"How did you…" Gyumao started to question, but I interrupted him.

"After…" I said. "Let's leave that for when we're alone."

I looked at my quiet friend who was nodding in agreement to talk in a more controlled environment, and my grandson, Goku, who was watching us curiously, clearly not understanding.

"Grandpa... what is reincarnation?" Goku asked.

I sighed, looking away. That was a conversation for another time

"We'd better talk about this when you're older." I replied.

"Ah, but that's not fair!" My grandson complained, sulking.

I looked away, laughing slightly, my grandson obviously didn't like that I was avoiding his question, I would have to divert his attention from the subject with something, an idea soon came to mind.

"Goku, don't you want to meet someone your age to play with?" I asked, hopeful that my idea would work.

"No! Playing is boring, fighting is cooler!" Goku said with his arms crossed.

"Maybe she likes to fight too…" I said.

"Serious?" Goku asked, clearly more interested.

From what I remembered from the Dragon Ball series, she had a rigid behavior and almost didn't get into fights, in the Z saga she was practically a housewife, always putting little Gohan to study and become a great researcher, in the anime it's not clear what the young hybrid's real desire is, but in the manga he expresses that he wants to be a researcher, Chichi knew how to fight as seen in the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi, where Goku fights the new Piccolo in the final of the tournament and marries Chichi, I must To say that I'm worried about ruining the girl's entire romance by introducing my grandson to her now, the Goku in front of me is very different from the one shown in the series.

"You want to get your grandson to fight my little princess?!" Gyumao exclaimed. "SHE'S NOT READY TO GET INTO FIGHTS GOHAN!!"

His voice almost burst my eardrums. Now I know where Chichi got her lungs from.

"Goku is just going to ask first…" I said, without much conviction. I myself wasn't sure what he would do.

"Grandpa, who are you going to introduce to me now?" Goku asked.

I looked at my grandson for a few moments. Then to Gyumao, who was still angry at the idea of his daughter getting into a fight.

"I'll introduce you to Gyumao's daughter, her name is Chichi and she's a girl your age!" I said.

"What is a girl?" Goku asked

I forgot that Goku was a 3-year-old child who didn't know how to differentiate between a boy and a girl, but my grandson had something that Goku in the series didn't have, and I would take advantage of that to try to explain things to the young Saiyan.

"Do you remember your mother?" I asked, hopefully.

"Yes…" Goku said without understanding.

"She is a woman!" I stated.

"Okay... and what does that have to do with it?" Goku was more confused.

"A girl, when she grows up, becomes a woman." He said. "Gyumao and I are men. You're a boy. When you grow up, you'll be a man too."

"I understood!" Goku said. "But how do I know it's a girl?" Goku asked.

I looked at the young man in front of me, I remembered what he did in the classic Dragon Ball saga to check Chi-Chi's gender, I don't want my grandson to be accused of harassment in the future...

"If a person has a beautiful voice, long hair and a cute face, it's because they're a girl!" I stated. "This is the easiest way for you to find out if you're a girl!"

'Of course this wasn't an infallible rule, but it was better than letting him check in person again...' I thought.

"Isn't that a little complicated?" Goku asked.

"Do you want to meet the girl or not?" I asked wanting to get out of this subject.

"I want…" My grandson said.

Having resolved all our issues with gender issues, the little Saiyan and I turned to Gyumao who was looking at us with amusement, the four meter giant was obviously having a lot of fun with my less than pleasant situation, he guided us to the "small" house where he and his daughter were staying. When we entered I saw a small black missile jumping towards Gyumao.

"DADDY!!" Said the little missile.

"Hello, my princess!" Gyumao said with a warm tone.

My grandson and I watched the interaction between father and daughter, when I looked at the young Saiyan next to me, Goku seemed jealous of the interaction. The little girl had black hair and shoulder length hair, she was wearing a navy blue qipao and loose pink pants, very similar to what she would wear in the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi, the only differences were that the qipao had long sleeves and there was the kanji "牛" on her clothes which indicated that she was Gyumao's daughter.

"What face is that?" I whispered my question.

"My father never did anything like that to me or my brother..." Goku said.

I understood his point, in the spin-off of Dragon Ball Minus, Gine, Goku's mother, says that it is not common for Saiyans to care about their own children, in my experience as a father in another life I studied a lot about how to raise a child, I was a single father, and I was quite exaggerated, I researched several articles that talked about the child's psycho-emotional development, biological differences aside, Saiyan children still needed an environment with love and family affection, things that society Saiyans in this universe do not have, perhaps in universe 6, the twin universe of this one, universe 7, has a Saiyan society with a warmer family upbringing, considering that the Saiyans are not a society of alien pirates who live off planetary genocide and selling planets to an intergalactic empire.

"Well... your dad may not have been one for hugs, but I certainly am" I said bringing Goku in for a brief hug.

I could see a slight smile appear on the young Saiyan's face, this was a great relief for me.

(Narrator in 3rd Person P.O.V)

The warm scene lasted for a few seconds, Gyumao's daughter, Chichi, finally realized that there were more people in the place besides her and her father, her behavior quickly changed from childish joy full of extroversion to a shy and introverted behavior, Goku watched with curiosity, it was the first time he met someone his age, he had few interactions with his brother Raditz when he was still on planet Vegeta, the same thing happened with his father Bardock who was on a mission most of the time, he spent more time with his mother who was more extroverted.

Gohan noticed his friend's daughter's shyness and bent down to greet her.

"Hello, my name is Gohan, and that's my grandson Goku!" Gohan introduced him and his grandson to the young mountain princess Fry-Pan.

"Hello…" Chichi said shyly.

"Hello, I'm Goku!" Said the young Saiyan.

The young girl, in her shyness, was unable to say anything and just did what she thought was most logical, she hid behind her father's leg, this made Gohan laugh slightly, her behavior was the same as that of young Gohan at the beginning of the Z saga of the Dragon Ball anime, the parallel between mother and son was undeniable.

"This is my old friend and his grandson!" Gyumao said. "Come on honey, introduce yourself." Gyumao said in a warm tone.

The shy young girl showed her face lightly.

"Hello, my name is Chichi!" Said the little girl, still behind her father's leg.

Gohan smiled slightly before turning to his grandson.

"Goku, what do you think about showing Kintoun to Chi-Chi?" Gohan said. "You can even fly around the region for a bit, in the meantime Gyumao and I will talk about some things, understood?"

Goku looked at his grandfather for a few moments before showing a big smile.

"Of course!" Goku said.

The young Saiyan then ran to Chi-Chi, the still shy girl was surprised at the new closeness that Gohan's grandson showed.

"Come on! You'll love Kintoun, she's yellow and really cute!" Said Goku, holding one of Chi-Chi's arms and dragging her out of the house.

"Ehh….." It was the only sound the young woman could make in her moment of surprise.

Gohan and Gyumao watched the two children walk away. They saw Chi-Chi's surprise when she saw the yellow cloud and laughed at the young girl's scream of astonishment when they saw Goku stand on the Kintoun. Chichi went up, fearful, on the cloud, but soon showed a very excited expression as he balanced on it. Then, both children shot into the sky, and the two adults watched them having fun for a few moments.

"Let's go inside. You still have things to explain to me!" Gyumao said.

"Okay…" replied Gohan.

Both turtle hermit students entered the house, now silent and with a slightly tense atmosphere. Gohan started talking after sitting down. He told Gyumao everything that had happened in the last three and a half months: he talked about the reincarnation of the soul from another world, the fusion, about his grandson and his species, how he had been training lately to survive Goku's eventual transformation into Oozaru when looking at the full moon, and his plans to train the young man to control this powerful transformation.

Throughout Gohan's speech, Gyumao remained silent, paying close attention to what his friend said seriously. Sometimes, he would change his expression to confusion, but soon that expression would disappear, giving way to his original seriousness. Now, as he finished his explanation, Gohan watched his friend, who was stroking his own beard as he pondered Son Gohan's words.

"So… You merged with this soul from another world, right?" Gyumao said.

"Yes!" confirmed Gohan.

"Do you have an identity crisis? Like... The soul's personality conflicting with yours, or something like that?" Gyumao asked.

"No!" replied Gohan. "When we were in the process of merging, I relived the soul's entire life, in the same way that the soul from the other world did the same with Son Gohan's life. It reached a point where we were both the same person, with the same experiences and memories. This stabilized and also facilitated the fusion and prevented identity issues or possible cases of dissociative identity disorder!" Gohan clarified.

Gyumao nodded, accepting his friend's explanation, he was a little worried about the idea that the world they lived in being a manga for a certain audience, his concerns were soon alleviated by his friend Gohan explaining about the entity that sent the soul from the other world to this reality, for this the Dragon Ball universe would have to exist independently as something real and not as fictional, Gohan told some theories from his other life on how people could see other realities through dreams.

This discussion eased the giant's worries, the conversation took a healthier turn, with Gyumao asked about what happened to him in the manga's story, now with his worries and a possible identity crisis out of the way, the ruler of Fry-pan mountain can let his curiosity arise. Gohan had explained what happened for the story to begin and what the dragon balls were, he didn't have much desire to go out and look for the set of mystical objects, his priority was to see his daughter grow up well.

"Hmmm... You appear when Bulma, Goku and Oolong come to Fry-pan Mountain to look for one of the Dragon Balls, you ended up attacking them for the same reason you attacked me earlier today..." Gohan said.

Gyumao laughed lightly, it was something he would actually do.

"After you calmed down and recognized Goku as my grandson when you saw Nyoibo, then you asked Goku to find Chi-Chi to go get Bashosen, as you can imagine, our master was using the fan as a potholder, and it ended up getting so stained that Kame-Sennin threw it away..." Gohan said. "The master ended up coming to Fry-pan mountain and after using the Kamehameha to destroy the mountain he scolded you and your recent habits, at the end of this event Chichi ended up asking Goku to marry her in the future."

Gyumao could only sigh at the information that he was scolded by his martial arts master after becoming an adult, but the information of his daughter wanting to get married left him dumbfounded, his daughter was too young to think about that, even if it was the grandson of his old friend, Gohan.

"My daughter wanting to get married?" Gyumao whispered. "It's not going to happen, she's still three years old, she's not old enough for that" Exclaimed the giant.

Gohan looked at Gyumao's reaction with amusement.

"She was 12 years old in this part of the series and was wearing extremely inappropriate armor, you should study more about how to raise a young girl, the master's education that you received when you were younger is not ideal for raising a daughter!" Gohan said.

Gyumao looked at his friend in dismay.

"It was probably my late wife's armor, she was from a clan of Amazons that I ended up meeting on one of my journeys after graduating from the Turtle's martial arts school, Chi-Chi is very similar to her so it was possibly something I ended up giving her before the story in the series…" Gyumao reflected.

"Well, in my other life I had a son too, and as I was a single father I can give you some ideas on how to raise Chi-Chi" Said Gohan.

"It will help me a lot, thank you" Gyumao thanked him, accepting the information that Gohan had.

The conversation about fatherhood between Gohan and Gyumao lasted a few more minutes, until it was interrupted by the soft sound of Kintoun cutting through the wind. The two left the cabin, expecting to receive only Goku and Chi-Chi, but they came across a third figure on the golden cloud.

He was a thin boy, visibly older than Goku and Chi-Chi, maybe six or seven years old. His black hair went down to his shoulders, and his eyes were suspicious. His clothes were shabby, and his rigid posture betrayed someone used to surviving on the streets, always ready to run or fight.

"Grandfather!" "Daddy!" Goku and Chi-Chi shouted in unison, jumping off the Kintoun with the energy typical of children who have discovered something incredible.

"CHICHI!!" Gyumao shouted, opening a wide smile. He bent down and wrapped his arms around her, turning slightly with his daughter on his shoulders. "How was the tour?"

"It was scary at first! The cloud was very fast, and looking down gave you butterflies... but then it became super fun!" The little girl said with a big smile.

While father and daughter met again, the unknown boy slipped off the Kintoun with silent steps. His eyes scanned the environment in search of threats, his body ready to flee at the slightest danger that appeared, Gohan kept a look at the new face, the child's suspicious behavior showed a story of a life growing up in the midst of difficult situations, the old man took a step forward and stopped at a safe distance. He squatted down slowly, with a calm smile.

"Hello, my name is Gohan!" Said the old martial artist.

The boy took a step back, his shoulders tense.

"Hello..." He murmured, more of an acknowledgment than a greeting.

Gohan, noticing the young man's distrust, prepared to say something, but before he could say anything, his grandson approached with a big smile, the young man's gaze alternating between the old and the young Saiyan.

"Grandpa! While Chi-Chi and I were flying, we heard some screams coming from that desert... you know? The one you showed me on the way to your friend's mountain!" Said Goku.

The comment sparked a fleeting thought in Gohan's mind. He glanced at the new boy, putting the pieces together to try and figure out the young man's identity.

Gyumao also stopped talking to Chichi and approached carefully, still holding his daughter in his arms, who now had a confused look on his face due to her father's sudden change.

The boy looked away at the giant, his eyes shining with a mixture of fascination and nervousness, like someone finding something incredible... but too big to trust right away.

"Tell me Goku, what did you see in the Devil's Desert?" Gohan asked.

"Hmmm... I saw a lot of people shouting and fighting. One of them saw us and tried to attack us, but he was a bit slow, so I knocked him down. Then the other men got angry and shouted some things, like that we had to hand over everything. I said that we had nothing, and they called us liars and jumped on top. I hit them too. Then we found this new friend... he was just standing there, looking. After that we came back with him" Goku said everything in an accelerated and vague way, as if telling something common... but which clearly wasn't.

'My grandson basically kidnapped someone...' Gohan thought, feeling a drop of sweat dripping down.

"Err… That's not what happened…" The unknown young man said.

This made everyone look at him.

"He's right, that's not exactly what happened." Chichi said.

"Okay…" Gohan said.

The old man then turns to the unknown young man.

"We don't know your name yet, could you tell us?" Gohan asked.

"My name is Yamcha…" Said the young man.

'I knew. I had my suspicions, but it's still a surprise to know that Yamcha grew up in the Devil's Desert... I thought he was someone who had run away from home...' Gohan thought.

Old Gohan put his thoughts aside, choosing to know how his grandson found Yamcha much earlier than in the original work.

"Can you tell us what happened?" Gohan asked.

"Err… Of course…" Yamcha said, the young man then took a deep breath and started counting. "What happened was…"

(FLASHBACK - Yamcha P.O.V)

I'd been looking for something to sell so I could get some food. Living in that desert was difficult. The gangs in the region stole practically everything: clothes, weapons, any minimally valuable object. If they could sell or exchange for food, medicine or products, they always did so at absurd prices.

Life was hard. I lived in a small village, hidden within the territory of one of these gangs. For a while, we managed to live there for little money, until the gang discovered us. They started demanding an absurd fee for protection... and, after a few months, they attacked us. They killed almost all the civilians.

Luckily, I managed to hide and survived. When I came out hours later, I saw the bodies scattered. No one was left. Since then, I've been living alone, trying to get by. Some wild wolves in the region ended up taking me in for a while, but we got separated one stormy night a few months ago. I survived on what I could find and sell, sometimes exchanging it for a piece of bread, sometimes for some water.

That day, I saw a fight between two gangs from afar. From what I could understand from the screams, it was a dispute over territory. A rare chance. Fights like this were almost non-existent, as far as I knew, there was an unwritten rule between the gangs: never invade each other's territory.

I approached cautiously, hoping that when it was all over, I could loot what was left—swords, cloaks, anything that could be sold. The fight had been going on for a few hours and I continued to watch. But then I heard a different noise... like something flying. When I looked up, I almost choked. It was a cloud... golden! And there were two children on top of her!

Two children, smaller than me... and one of them had a monkey's tail!

"Look Chichi, they're fighting!" Said the boy with the monkey tail.

The girl looked scared. She was wearing beautiful clothes, made of expensive fabric. She must have been the daughter of rich people. She shouldn't have even known what a gang fight was... the way she looked at things said that.

"I think we should get out of here…" She said. "Dad said I shouldn't be around things like that."

At least she was smart...

"Ehhh… But we just arrived…" The strange boy muttered, looking hurt at the idea of leaving the place so soon.

In my head, he had to be crazy. Who in their right mind wants to stay here? If I could, I would run away from there without looking back. But I didn't even know where to get out... I never really found a way.

Suddenly, a big guy from the gang shouted at them:

"HEY, WHAT ARE A COUPLE OF BRATS LIKE YOU DOING HERE?"

"Brat?" The monkey boy asked. "What is a brat?" He turned to Chi-Chi as if she would know.

More and more, it seemed like I yours in a crazy dream. It couldn't be real. No one could be that clueless... right?

"Are you making fun of me?" Snarled the gangster, with a thick and angry voice.

"There is?" The monkey boy looked even more confused. "You're weird, you know that?" He added, looking at the man as if he were the weird one in the story.

"Oh, you brat…" The gangster growled, even angrier and almost shaking with anger.

He pulled out a knife and pointed it at the cloud boy.

"I'm not in the habit of killing children, but I'll make an exception for you!!!" Said the gangster, pointing the blade towards the two children who were on top of the golden cloud.

"So you want to fight?" Said the boy with the tail, but... he seemed happy about it?

"But you look pretty weak… You can go away, fighting you wouldn't be any fun!" He added, with a convinced smile.

That was the last straw, the gangster was too furious now.

"YOU LITTLE BRAT!" he shouted, leaping at the boy and girl.

I froze. He was going to hurt them. I was going to kill them both. And I... I couldn't do anything. My legs didn't even move. That feeling of being weak... it hurt. It hurt inside.

"KYAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" Gritou Chichi, assustada.

Her scream snapped me out of shock. And then, what happened next... it was too fast.

The boy with a tail pulled a red stick from his back. In the blink of an eye, he hit the man's hand with a sharp blow, the knife flying away. Before I could blink again, he swung the bat and hit the guy hard in the jaw.

The man fell to the ground.

It all happened in the blink of an eye. I couldn't even understand it properly. And neither does Chichi.

"D-Did you defeat him?" The girl asked in disbelief.

"Yes, I said he was weak…" The boy replied, a little disappointed.

Silence took over the place, Chichi seemed to want to say something, but was interrupted.

"AKIRAAA" Another gangster shouted.

His scream caught the attention of the other gangsters who were fighting, I was increasingly terrified, seeing the strange boy take down an adult was incredible, but it was hard to believe that he could beat that crowd of gangsters.

"That idiot Howling Wolves lost to a kid! What a shame!" Said one of the gangsters with visible sarcasm and disdain.

The monkey boy heard this and turned to the gangster from the rival group.

"Well… he was weak. But you all they look the same as him. It shouldn't even be fun to fight you guys." He said.

He said that right. I heard. And I looked at him, not knowing if he was really brave... or just crazy.

"Goku, I think we should get out of here..." The girl said, shaking a little.

"Okay. Grandpa said that hitting weak people is for bad people..." The boy replied, loudly, as if it were the most normal thing in the world.

He was asking to be beaten... or worse. I started to sweat. The guys were getting redder and redder with anger.

But before any of the gangsters could do anything, one of them broke the silence that now existed in the desert.

"Hey, isn't that Gyumao's emblem?" Said one of the gangsters from the Howling Wolves group. "Does she have any connection to that monster?" He continued

"It doesn't matter, if she's important to him we can take her hostage and steal his treasure" Said another Howling Wolves gangster.

Gyumao? Like that Gyumao who was said to be like a monster who was like a Demon Emperor who killed anyone who came near his castle? Did that small, fragile-looking girl with a chubby face have a connection with that guy?

Chichi trembled even more, Goku who saw this made a face.

"I didn't understand what you said… but you scared my friend!" Goku pointed at the gangster.

"And what are you going to do about it?" replied the man with a mocking smile. "Are you going to hit me?" He continued.

"No... I was just gonna ask if you'd say sorry..." Goku said.

I almost choked. Apologize? He had no idea where he was. No gangster in the Devil's Desert apologizes. Never.

"Does the brat have any idea what he's saying?" growled another gangster.

"Screw it. It doesn't matter if he knows or not. Let's beat this kid up and get the girl!" growled another gangster. "She must be Gyumao's daughter. If we have her, that monster won't do anything if she's our hostage!" He continued.

At that moment, the two gangs that had been fighting suddenly teamed up. That never happened. But now they wanted the same thing: to get Gyumao's daughter.

They were talking about castles… and treasure...

I saw Chi-Chi grab Goku's clothes tightly. Even from far away, you could see that she was shaking.

"Let's get away from here" Chichi said, desperate.

"Eh…Does that mean they won't apologize?" Goku asked Chi-Chi.

I wanted to hit myself. It was obvious now. More obvious than the Sun in the sky.

This boy was either fearless… or just completely clueless

Chi-Chi had a desperate look on her face, but before the girl could say anything, the gangsters advanced, running towards them with knives and swords.

Goku apparently realized now that he had no time for excuses, he picked up the red stick he had on his back again and jumped off the golden cloud, leaving Chi-Chi alone.

"GOKU!!!" Chichi screamed, but whether it was out of worry or anger at being left alone I didn't know.

I watched Goku run towards the gangsters who were also running towards him, their shrill laughter echoed through the desert, when they were almost close to each other, just a meter or two away from colliding, Goku jumped and did something that challenged my reality again.

"Grow up Nyoibo" Goku shouted, as he swung in a wide arc with the red staff.

The bat glowed slightly as it grew, its speed remained the same, the increase didn't just surprise me, but it also surprised the gangsters who were caught by the blow, most of them were now on the ground, some were groaning in pain, others were completely passed out.

In just a moment Goku cleared a large part of the field, the monkey boy however did not stay still and when he put his feet on the ground he shrunk the bat and shot at the nearest gangster, the adult man still standing in shock was punched in the face leaving him completely unconscious.

That woke up all the other gangsters who were still standing, he saw how Goku punched and dodged each sword slash and knife thrust and retaliated quickly and relentlessly, striking faces and ribs, stepping on fallen bodies and using them as a platform to jump and hit another, the gangsters who had fallen with the blow of the bat began to get up, but that mattered little to Goku.

Bodies were flying from one side to the other and one came towards me, I could only jump to the side leaving where I was hiding, I did a somersault to soften the impact with the hard ground and stood up with my back to the fight, the sounds and grunts of the gangsters ended quickly, when I turned around I could see the fallen bodies of all the gangsters who were fighting.

There were at least 40 men there, 20 for each gang, and all of them defeated by a child.

And he... was just a brat younger than me.

I was standing there, paralyzed looking at that scenery and I didn't notice when Goku and Chi-Chi, who were still he was on top of the golden cloud, they approached me.

Goku tried to get my attention several times but I was still frozen in place, this caused him to step in front of me and clap his hands creating a loud sound that woke me up.

"Hey" Goku greeted.

"Hey…?" He said still confused.

"Are you with those guys?" Goku asked.

This paralyzed me, if I said yes I would probably go to heaven, he would hit me with the same force he used on others.

"N-No, I'm not with them!!!!" He said desperately.

"Hmmm, right!" Goku accepted my statement.

I sighed with relief, I wasn't going to get beaten.

"You don't look that strong either." Goku said with his hand on his chin, analyzing me.

"That was rude Goku!" Chichi scolded.

Goku laughed at that, but still, it gave me a bad feeling. As if he had swallowed sand, he was younger than me and defeated so many adults.

"What are you doing here?" Chichi asked.

I looked at her, even though I knew she was the daughter of the infamous Gyumao, she didn't look bad.

"I was looking for something to sell and get food…" I was honest.

This caught Goku's attention.

"But you only need to hunt to eat, what does selling have to do with getting food?" Goku asked.

At this point I just accepted the absurdities he said, hunting wasn't an option here in the desert, there weren't many animals around other than vultures and wolves that rarely passed by.

Without answering Goku's question, the conversation fell into an uncomfortable silence for me and Chi-Chi, and in an attempt to break that silence the girl decided to ask.

"Goku, how did you get so strong?"

I turned my face towards Goku, hoping that what he did I could maybe do too, so I wouldn't be afraid to walk through the desert.

"Hmm… I just trained with my grandfather!" Goku stated.

It couldn't be that, right?

Training?

What kind of training could make a child defeat adults so easily?

"Grandpa said anyone can get strong if they train right!" Goku said smiling. "He said that having strength is important to protect important things!" He continued.

If I were as strong as him, no one would steal what I found...

"Can I get strong like this too?" Chichi asked.

That surprised me, a girl wanting to get strong? There weren't many in the village I lived in, but it was enough for me to realize that they only care about looking pretty and getting a boyfriend.

"I was really scared before!" Chichi continued. "If I get strong I won't feel this anymore, right" Chichi asked.

What kind of logic is this?

"Yes!" Goku agreed. "I can ask grandpa if he can train you too!"

The strange boy showed a big smile.

"You're coming too!" He grabbed me and jumped onto the cloud.

Before I could say anything, the magic cloud shot out and I could only do one thing at that moment.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..."

(FIM DO FLASHBACK - 3° P.O.V)

"And that's what happened…" Yamcha finished counting.

Gohan and Gyumao heard the whole story of what happened in the Devil's Desert, to say that Gyumao was angry that his daughter was in danger was a huge understatement, the giant's blood pressure was through the roof, veins were visible on his forehead, he just didn't explode in fury going after the gangs in the Devil's Desert because he still had his daughter in his arms and because Gohan calmed him down.

"So my grandson beat 40 men..." Gohan muttered. "And he kidnapped someone too…"

He knew that Goku had a lot of skill in fighting, after all, his grandson was a genius when it came to training, but he didn't expect that training with the young Saiyan in a more serious way would lead him to grow so much, in his mind Gohan began to plan how to teach his grandson more about the philosophy of martial arts and common sense of human society.

"Excuse me…" Young Yamcha said shyly. "You would be Goku's grandfather, right?" he asked.

"Yes, it's me" Gohan replied, snapping out of his thoughts.

"Goku said that anyone could become strong if they trained, is that right?" Yamcha asked.

"Yes, anyone who trains the right way and puts their effort into it will get strong!" Gohan said.

This brought hope to the 6 year old child, he wanted to become strong so as not to be at the mercy of the gangs and perhaps live a more dignified life, the young man then gathered all the courage he had and looked at old Gohan.

"Could you teach me?" Yamcha asked with hope shining in his eyes.

Gohan was surprised by this development, Yamcha was self-taught at the beginning of the classic Dragon Ball saga, training with Muten Roshi after the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, he had talent but did not have the correct mentality for high-level fights, being arrogant and letting his guard down and dying easily when he could survive with some effort. Gohan knew he could correct this now, training a child is different from training a teenager or adult, mentality is easily molded at that time, however, he knew that the Yamcha in front of him was pure of heart, being able to walk the Kintoun without being knocked down was one less worry having to deal with a malicious student, and taking on a student was not something that was done without thinking, he needed to talk to the boy to find out his motivations and only then make a verdict.

"Tell me young man, if you were strong enough to be called the strongest in the world, what would you do?" Gohan asked.

The question took Yamcha by surprise, he expected a straight answer like "yes" or "no", receiving a question like that made him nervous, what would be the right answer to something like that?

"I-I don't know..." Yamcha replied honestly.

Gyumao looked at the young man with some curiosity, this question was similar to one he received from his master when he asked to be accepted as a disciple, he ended up answering that he would live a happy and calm life, Gyumao felt a drop of sweat run down the back of his neck, he did everything except what he told his master, little Yamcha at least didn't think like him...

Gohan still looking at young Yamcha continued to ask.

"What do you think of my grandson?" Gohan asked.

"He is strong!" Yamcha responded quickly.

"Yes, he is strong, but he is different, my grandson is a genius when it comes to martial arts..." Gohan began to speak. "The speed at which he improves scares even me!" Gohan continued.

This made Yamcha lower his head, for him, the old man in front of him was calling him incapable in a very indirect way.

"My grandson is an exception, but if I trained you, would you try to become stronger than him?" Gohan asked one more question.

This made Yamcha raise his head in surprise.

"Yes!" Yamcha said with a resolute expression.

"Hmmm…Would you try it even though the training for it would make any grown man give up after the first day?" Gohan asked.

The child swallowed hard, but he couldn't take a step back now, this was the chance to change his life.

"Yes!" Yamcha said, even more resolute than before.

Gohan looked at the young man in front of him for a few moments.

"Okay, I will train you!" Gohan said.

Yamcha smiled with joy, he had succeeded, he could now become strong, Goku beside him smiled, having someone else to train would be fun, Chi-Chi looked at the scene as if thinking of something.

Gyumao looked at his friend and smiled, Gohan was always a great warrior, but his focus got so caught up in fighting that he wasted a lot of time that he could have used to build a family and knowing that he now lived on Paozu Mountain didn't help him worry less about his friend, seeing him accept disciples made him happy, he would have something close to a family bond to make his life less monotonous on Paozu Mountain

"Okay, we have to go now! It's getting late already" Gohan said. "Yamcha we will start your training tomorrow!"

Gohan turned to his friend and said goodbye, he told Goku and Yamcha to get on the Kintoun to return to Paozu Mountain, with the two children on top of the golden cloud, Gohan exchanged one last handshake with his friend Gyumao and began to fly, Gyumao and Chichi watched, impressed by the old man's skill and watched him and the two children go away, disappearing into the horizon.

A pleasant silence settled between father and daughter.

"Daddy, can I learn to fight?" Chichi asked suddenly, cutting the silence.

Gyumao was surprised, his daughter never showed that kind of interest, and she was too young to start with the heavy stuff.

"Of course you can, but we'll talk about that later!" Gyumao told his daughter. "You are still too young to start doing very heavy exercises"

The two then entered their temporary home and prepared to end the day, with Gyumao thinking about how to resolve his daughter's new desire to become a martial artist.
