Chapter 12 - the trip

~Liam's pov~

But she can't remember anything. What would you do with her?

Luther's voice cut through my thoughts, making me reflect deeply. He was right. I had tested Lyra on numerous occasions, hoping for a flicker of recognition, a spark of memory, but each time, I was met with a blank stare. It dawned on me—maybe the one who truly perished in my arms that fateful day was my Lyra, the one who had spoken those hurtful words to me. The girl standing before me, devoid of recollection, could she truly be her twin sister, Kyra?

I clenched my fist in frustration, a surge of anger flooding through me. Why? I repeated to myself, the question echoing in my mind. My family and I had welcomed her into our lives and treated her as one of our own. So why was this happening?

"Boss, the Lorway want to finalize the deal as soon as possible," Luther's voice jolted me back to reality.

I blinked, pulling myself out of my reverie.

"Where are we meeting for the deal?"

I asked, my mind shifting gears rapidly. The Lorway gangs weren't established in our city, and their potential arrival seemed unlikely, so we needed to find a neutral ground to negotiate.

After a moment of deliberation, we settled on Gaelic City. Its central location served as a perfect midpoint for both factions, offering a semblance of safety. The streets of Gaelic were quiet, devoid of Lorway's men, though only a handful of our own would be present—enough to ensure we weren't caught off guard.

"Hmm…" I nodded thoughtfully at Luther's proposal, a plan forming. Our men would be on high alert, ready to spring into action if the deal soured.

"Let's leave tomorrow morning," I instructed Luther firmly. "You handle the preparations."

"Boss… are you bringing the girl?" he asked hesitantly, hesitation evident in his tone.

I turned to him sharply, locking my gaze on his. He bowed his head, understanding the gravity of my silence, and retreated, leaving me alone with my thoughts.
