Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: The Tragedy That Changes Everything

POV: Male Lead (Ahn Min-jae)

Min-jae should have known happiness was temporary.

For the first time in years, he had let his guard down. Allowed himself to believe that maybe—just maybe—he could have a future with Ha-neul.

But fate had never been kind to him.

And tonight was no exception.

---

A Night of Celebration

Ha-neul was laughing beside him, the soft glow of city lights reflecting in her eyes. They had gone out for dinner—a small celebration for his discharge from the hospital.

She looked radiant, happiness lighting up her face.

"You're staring," she teased, nudging him.

Min-jae smirked. "Can't help it. My girlfriend is beautiful."

Ha-neul grinned, rolling her eyes. "Flattery won't get you out of paying the bill."

He chuckled, reaching for his wallet. "Fair enough."

As they stepped outside, the night air was crisp. Min-jae pulled her closer, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"Let's go home," he murmured.

Ha-neul smiled. "Okay."

Neither of them noticed the black car speeding toward them.

---

The Crash

The sound of screeching tires.

Min-jae's heart stopped.

He turned just in time to see headlights blinding him.

Instinct took over.

He shoved Ha-neul out of the way—just as the car slammed into him.

Pain exploded through his body. The force sent him crashing onto the pavement. A sharp, unbearable agony ripped through his chest.

Distantly, he heard Ha-neul scream.

His vision blurred. His body felt heavy.

His heart—**his weak, failing heart—**was giving out.

As darkness crept in, only one thought remained.

Please, let her be safe.

The Aftermath

POV: Female Lead (Jung Ha-neul)

"Min-jae!"

Ha-neul's voice was raw with terror as she ran to his side.

Blood. So much blood.

His face was pale, his breaths shallow. His fingers twitched weakly as if reaching for her.

"Min-jae, stay with me!" She cradled his face, her hands trembling. "Don't you dare close your eyes!"

Tears blurred her vision. She pressed her hand to his chest, desperately checking his pulse.

Weak. Too weak.

Panic seized her.

She was a doctor. She knew what this meant. His heart couldn't handle this.

People were shouting. Sirens wailed in the distance.

But all Ha-neul could hear was the faint, broken whisper from Min-jae's lips.

"Ha-neul…"

His eyes fluttered.

Then everything went still.
