After assigning the mercenaries to Henry,Sean walked toward the caravan's rear with Windsor and Lodin. Behind Henry's carriage trailed two dozen supply wagons—grain, tools, clothing, and fifty servants
Servants bowed as Sean passed. He nodded, proceeding to the refugee column.
Anduin stood there, struggling to coordinate. Sean addressed the crowd:
"One month ago, gnolls attacked Riverside. Seven days ago, we slaughtered 300 north of Thorn Ridge. The threat is gone!"
Cheers erupted. "Praise the Light!"
Sean introduced Anduin. "His orders are mine. Disobey, and you lose tax exemptions."
The crowd murmured agreement. Anduin nodded gratefully.
…
At the children's group, Sean knelt. "Who leads you?"
A boy stepped forward. "Tom, Your Highness."
"Find Anduin for housing. Work assignments come this afternoon."
Tom saluted. "We'll behave, My Lord!"
…
Finally, Sean reached the 300 slaves. "Next year, 30 of you will earn freedom based on merit. Seniors, your labor accumulates—no one is forgotten."
Tears of hope. "Thank you, Master!"
Supervisor Piggy groveled. "How may I serve, Your Highness?"
"Treat them fairly. Cruelty means you'll join them in chains."
Piggy paled. "Yes, Your Highness!"
…
That evening, Sean reviewed plans with Anduin. "Schools for the children. Farms for the slaves. Markets for Lodin's books."
Anduin smiled. "You've given them hope. That's more powerful than walls."
Sean nodded, watching Sophia secretly glance his way. Rebuilding will take time… but we'll succeed.
