Chapter 18 - Main character

Keith deactivated his Celestial Talent as he sat down on the ground to catch his breath. His body felt tired and his muscles burned like hell and his bone ached. Keith felt a bit disappointed in himself even though he won the battle. The reason why he was disappointed was because he had to resort to using a Celestial ability in order to kill a corrupted soul beast out of all the things in the universe. He knew that it was for his survival but it felt so humiliating. Out of the creatures he could have used his Celestial ability on it had to be a corrupted soul beast

He realized that he was weak extremely weak so he decided to become stronger so that he would never be pushed to use such a powerful talent on lesser creatures. He declared to himself that he would push himself even harder than he already does to become stronger.

"Now let me see the damaged parts of my soul and body," he said as he closed his eyes and looked his soul core and soul circuits. Ten soul circuits were severely damaged but there he will be able to fix them. His soul core had multiple cracks on it.

Keith sat in a lotus position and used the soul essence in his body to fix the cracks in his soul core. The process was laborious and painful but he endured and his soul core was fixed. He then directed his soul essence and slowly reattached the soul circuits together. It took him hours to fix his soul circuits because if he made one single mistake, they won't function the same way as they used to.

After he was done with this process of repairing his soul core and circuits, he opened his eyes and looked at the system notifications.

Keith was content with the rewards he was given and stood up from the ground. He closed his eyes and tracked down his clone. Keith is able to sense the location of his clones or know what they do because of the connection he has with them basically operating like a hivemind.

"He is just north from here," he muttered to himself as he ventured to the north. On his way to the north, he encountered a few soul beasts which he defeated with ease. The soul beasts weren't much of a challenge to him but they did slow him down a bit.

He reached the location of his clone at sunset. He dismissed his clone and it turned into a pile of dust. He sat down on the ground and as he was about to sleep, Natasha asked, "How did you defeat that bear?"

"I killed it," he answered.

"How did you kill it? that bear was clearly stronger than by leaps and bounds so I want to know what technic did use to defeat it," she asked again which caused Keith to be slightly agitated since he wanted nothing but to sleep and rest.

"Two simple words, 'Plot armor'," he answered as he drifted back to sleep.

"What is plot armor?" she asked again

Keith opened his eyes once again and glared at her angrily. "Why are you asking so many questions?" is what he would have said to her but he decided to explain what plot armor in detail and how many times it is used by authors in many stories.

"So let me get this straight, plot armor is a tool that authors use in order to save the main character of their novel from a situation that was supposed to kill them," she said and Keith nodded saying that she was correct.

"And you think that you the main character of some novel," she said in a rather mocking and teasing tone. He just nodded once again.

"Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah," she laughed at Keith. Keith wasn't the slightest bit angry at her for laughing because he knew how ridiculous it would to say that he is main character of a novel. He himself wouldn't believe it if someone said that they are the main character of a novel.

As he was about sleep again, she asked, "What do you think you are the main character?"

Keith saw the curiosity in her azure eyes and decided to give her an answer that would satisfy her curiosity.

"I answer your question and after that no more questions. Have I made myself clear?" he said to her. She nodded in response.

"Some of the reasons why I think that I am the main character of a novel is because of how similar was life is to most main characters. I have a slightly overpowered class and I seem to survive a lot of situations where I am supposed to die. But there is main reason I think I am the main character and that's because my life is mostly filled with nothing but pain and suffering. People around me die and suffer because of my own failures and decisions. I lost so many people that I care about because I lack the strength to protect them or I can't do anything to save them," he said.

"My life is a living hell. My loved ones die no matter what I do yet I live. I ended making myself believe that I am main character of novel in order to sooth the pain that I feel in my heart but it just made me feel even worse when I think about it. That some author is writing my story, toying with my life and the lives of the people I love so that he could entertain people enrages me more," he said, his voice filled with nothing pure rage.

"I am sorry," she apologized.

"There's no need for you to apologize it's not like you are the one who caused my pain and suffering," he said as he slowly drifted back to sleep.
