Chapter 39: The Most Advanced Divination The Right to Interpret Belongs to Me
As the last rays of sunlight faded from the horizon, the master and disciple duo re entered the small town.
The moment they stepped in, the lively noises of human civilization returned to Han Li's ears, making him oddly nostalgic after two days of silence in the wilderness.
Perhaps because night was approaching, the loud calls for hunting parties had vanished. Instead, the town was now filled with the sounds of daily life people drinking, food sizzling on woks, cheerful chatter, occasional cursing, and, of course, some early night activities between couples.
After his antennae had evolved, Han Li's senses had become even sharper, making him pick up far too much detail about the latter. He quickly shrank his perception range to only cover his immediate surroundings and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Sinful, sinful. I'm still a seven year old, just over 1.6 meters tall. I can't be seeing all this."
They had barely walked a short distance when Luo Sago approached them it seemed he had been waiting all this time.
"Your Eminence, Young Master Han, welcome back. Are we resting here for the night, or shall we travel overnight?"
"Let's stay the night. How's the inn here?" Han Li asked.
"It's… well, it's clean enough."
Luo Sago answered honestly. He had planned to leave the soul beast powered carriage under the protection of the local Spirit Hall branch, but after checking into an inn, he realized that the bed there wasn't even as comfortable as his driver's seat. So, after taking a bath, he returned to the carriage to sleep instead.
"In that case, forget the inn. Let's just sleep in the carriage. Teacher, what do you think?" Han Li turned to Guang Ling.
"Doesn't matter. Either way is fine for me." Guang Ling replied indifferently.
"Then it's settled. We'll rest in the carriage and set off tomorrow. Tonight, we're having hotpot. Luo, you're joining us too."
Nightfall
After a satisfying hotpot feast and a refreshing bath, Han Li changed into a perfectly fitting new outfit and comfortably lay on his bed, pulling out his botanical encyclopedia from his storage wristband to read.
Throughout their journey, this was how he had spent most of his time.
His powerful spiritual energy allowed him to train efficiently even while in a relaxed position. Though this method wasn't as effective as dedicated meditation, the extra time spent training while traveling made up for any slight inefficiencies.
Guang Ling had noticed Han Li flipping through that book multiple times and finally couldn't hold back his curiosity anymore.
"Is that book really that interesting? You've read it over and over again."
Han Li snapped the book shut, confirmed that Luo Sago was out of earshot, then grinned at his teacher.
"Teacher, my goal is to memorize every word in this book. You've seen it before you remember the chapter about immortal herbs, right?"
Guang Ling nodded slightly.
"Since these plants were recorded in ancient texts, and some of them even had detailed methods of consumption, that means they might actually exist somewhere in the world."
Han Li's smile deepened.
"And with my luck, don't you think there's a chance I might stumble upon them one day?"
Guang Ling instinctively wanted to dismiss the idea these kinds of things were far too rare and unrealistic.
However, he paused.
His mind flashed back to earlier that afternoon when he had learned about Han Li's outrageous luck.
The boy had miraculously obtained two external spirit bones, his soul rings had inexplicably mutated, and he even randomly picked up gold coins just walking around.
…Could it actually be possible?
The more he thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
Unconsciously, Guang Ling's eyes darted toward Han Li, his expression wavering as a slight temptation crept into his heart.
For the first time, he felt genuinely intrigued.
Silence lingered for a few seconds before Guang Ling finally broke the quiet.
"Xiao Li… then do you have any 'feeling' about where they might be?"
Han Li blinked in surprise.
…Had he accidentally brainwashed his own teacher?
Although he had planned to find immortal herbs during this trip, hearing his teacher actively bring it up was a different matter altogether.
He glanced at Guang Ling, who seemed slightly embarrassed, clearly avoiding eye contact after asking such a ridiculous question.
Heh… Teacher is kind of cute.
But this worked out perfectly.
Han Li smirked.
"Alright! Since Teacher asked, I'll give it a try!"
He tossed off his blanket and stood up confidently.
Guang Ling, who had been a little flustered, immediately focused all his attention on Han Li, his curiosity fully piqued.
Then, he watched as Han Li…
Closed his eyes.
Held the book upright with both hands.
Mouthed a silent incantation.
Guang Ling leaned in slightly and carefully read his lips.
Han Li was repeating the phrase:
"Where is the location of the immortal herbs?"
Seven times.
Then, with a dramatic flourish, Han Li tossed the book into the air.
The book landed softly on the carpet, barely making a sound.
When Han Li opened his eyes, his gaze immediately locked onto the book.
The cover displayed a chrysanthemum and its stem happened to be pointing in a specific direction.
Han Li stroked his chin and nodded solemnly.
"Hmm… this direction… if I'm not mistaken, it should be leading toward… Heaven Dou City."
Guang Ling's eyebrows twitched.
"That's it? That's how you determine the location? Isn't this a little… reckless?"
He leaned forward, staring suspiciously at the book.
Han Li shrugged innocently.
"Well, do you have a better method?"
Guang Ling hesitated.
"…No."
"Then this works. After all, this is based on luck. And since we weren't planning to return straight to Spirit City anyway, making a small detour won't hurt, right?" Han Li replied smoothly.
"Worst case scenario, we just treat it as a sightseeing trip. It won't take more than a few extra days. If we end up finding an immortal herb, great! If not, we'll have had an interesting journey."
Guang Ling fell silent for a moment before exhaling slowly.
"Alright. Let's just think of it as a cultural experience then."
After hearing Han Li's carefree attitude, Guang Ling snapped out of his earlier obsession.
For a moment, he had been more anxious than his own disciple how embarrassing.
As Guang Ling calmed down, Han Li hid his smirk and laid back down.
Perfect.
Originally, Han Li had planned to visit Heaven Dou City anyway. His true intention was to find the herbs necessary for enhancing Xiu'er's bloodline and his own development.
He had been thinking about how to convince his teacher but now, Guang Ling had volunteered to lead the way himself.
There was no real divination.
When Han Li had closed his eyes, he had already mentally calculated the direction toward Heaven Dou City.
Then, he had simply thrown the book and adjusted the explanation to match his goal.
Even if the book had landed upside down, sideways, or standing up he would've just said it pointed toward Heaven Dou City anyway.
After all…
"The right to interpret divinations belongs to me."
With a smug expression, Han Li tucked his book away and bid his teacher goodnight.
