Chapter 28 - Chapter 22: Mission Interruption

After leaving Yuji Itadori's house, Gojo Satoru was in a complicated mood.

The good news was that Itadori Wasuke had noticed something was wrong with Itadori Kaori and kicked her out of the house. This ensured that Yuji Itadori could grow up in a stable environment, free from unwanted influences.

The bad news was that Itadori Kaori had met Geto Suguru earlier than expected and had already moved to Tokyo. Her true intentions remained unknown, and dealing with her in advance was now a priority. Kenjaku was cunning—if they failed to eliminate him now, tracking him down again would be a challenge.

That afternoon, Gojo Satoru and Geto Suguru successfully boarded the high-speed train back to Tokyo.

After stepping off the train, Geto felt like he was being followed. "Satoru, I remember your school and my home are in opposite directions. Why are you following me?"

Gojo shrugged, hands in his pockets. "My home is also in this direction."

"Huh?" Geto raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you living in the school dorms?"

"That was just temporary. From today on, I'm moving into an apartment."

Geto studied him for a second. "...You're moving? Where?"

Gojo grinned. "You'll see."

Half an hour later, they arrived in front of an apartment building. Geto stopped in his tracks, turning to Gojo with a look of mild disbelief. "Wait. You live here?"

"Mhm!" Gojo beamed. "Surprised? Happy?"

Geto narrowed his eyes and sighed. "You're messing with me."

"Nope! The apartment right across from yours was available, so I bought it."

"That place was occupied until last week."

"Yeah, they moved out yesterday," Gojo said casually.

Geto frowned. "That sudden?"

"No one can refuse double the market price," Gojo replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Geto exhaled slowly. "...You bribed them to leave?"

"I prefer the term 'business negotiation,'" Gojo said with a wink.

The elevator doors slid open, and they both stepped onto the seventh floor. Geto pointed at the door opposite his own. "That's your apartment."

Gojo, however, made no move to enter. "Shouldn't new neighbors be invited over? You know, for hospitality's sake?"

"What's there to see? It's just a normal apartment," Geto muttered.

The two stood in a silent standoff in the hallway. Geto held firm for a while, but ultimately, he sighed in resignation. "Fine. Come in, but don't touch anything."

Gojo grinned triumphantly and followed him inside.

Geto's apartment was modest but tidy, reflecting the habits of someone used to taking care of themselves. Gojo plopped onto the couch and stretched out, glancing around. "Your place feels cozy."

"Thanks," Geto said simply, heading toward the kitchen.

"Since we're neighbors now, shouldn't you treat me to something?" Gojo propped his chin on his hand. "Edamame daifuku would be great."

"I don't have edamame. Or strawberries."

Gojo gasped dramatically. "Then what do you have?"

"Eggs. I can make caramel pudding."

Gojo thought for a moment. "Fine. But five times the sugar."

Geto stared at him. "Then why don't you just eat a bag of sugar?"

"That's not the same!"

With a sigh, Geto got to work. After preparing the pudding, he made a simple dinner, summoning a small humanoid cursed spirit to help clean the dishes.

Gojo leaned forward, watching the cursed spirit work. "So your curses can do housework? That's actually kind of convenient."

Geto shot him a look. "What did you think they were for?"

Before Gojo could respond, his phone buzzed with a message from Masamichi Yaga.

[Gojo, don't forget to hand in the 500 copies of the Sorcerer's Code tomorrow.]

[Also, the freelance sorcerers from the Ito family in Tokyo requested backup. You've been assigned a mission. Your assistant supervisor will pick you up soon. Do NOT cause trouble again.]

Gojo groaned dramatically. "Ugh. I finally moved in, and now they're sending me on another mission. What bad timing!"

Geto smirked. "Oh, so you do work sometimes."

Gojo shot him a glare. "I was looking forward to having dinner with my new neighbor, but nooo, now I have to deal with this instead."

Geto shook his head and set the food on the table. "Well, eat quickly. If you're lucky, you might still get to try the pudding later."

"This mission better be quick, then!" Gojo declared, digging into his food. "Jeez, the sorcerer world really doesn't know how to let me rest."

Geto chuckled. "You? Rest? That'll be the day."

Gojo huffed, but as he ate, he couldn't help but think that having Geto as his neighbor wasn't such a bad idea after all.
