Location: Star City
"Lex! Lex! Come on, open your eyes, and look at me!" I looked up and saw Mercy shaking me with concern.
I looked around and saw that we were now in an abandoned building. I looked at my watch and saw that an hour had passed. Mercy was now sitting beside me, placing a hand over my hand.
"What, what happened? The last thing I remembered was us getting away from Bane, and then the next thing I think, I passed out."
"Who is Bane? The masked giant? How do you know his name?" Mercy asked quizzically
Realizing I had made a slight error, I quickly made an excuse: "I have heard of him before through my connections. Apparently, he is some mercenary who uses a drug called venom that makes him superhumanly strong and durable."
"No wonder he could take bullets like nothing and cause the earth to shake a bit!" she said with surprise.
"So…what's our situation now?" I questioned
"So bad news, I think you got a concussion when we had flipped over. I pulled you out of the limo and escaped with you while our men held back our pursuers. To be honest, I don't think they are alive, Lex."
"Has the police come at all?" I asked, afraid. I could feel my fear growing, but I tried to remain calm, for I knew acting irrationally would not help in this scenario.
"We did, but for some reason, we were unable to contact them, and from what I heard, all the city's resources are being used to help the people in Star City. That includes the police. So currently, we are on our own for the next couple of hours."
"What about our men? Are they on the way!" I stood up, yelling.
She flinched when I started yelling at her. I could no longer contain my emotions, for I was pissed. Why the hell is this even happening? I currently have not done anything to warrant an assassination against me. So far, I have been praised as one of the greatest philanthropists in the world. Now, I am being rewarded with death hovering over me. I wanted to scream about how all this was unfair when I noticed Mercy's hand shaking. l looked up at her, fear in her eyes, her whole body shaking with fear.
That was when guilt hit me. Not only was my woman in danger just from being with me, she was trying to be brave for my sake. While most people would have fled by now, Mercy was here trying her best to get us out of this predicament while I was here crying and bitching. Hell, all of my men died as well, and here I was, self-pitying myself even though people just died for me.
No, it was time for me to "nut up or shut up." With newfound determination, I looked at Mercy and declared, "Mercy, I'm sorry for being a pussy before. I promise I will protect you and get us out of this situation".
She looked at me, surprised, for the Lex she knew would never talk like this, but she quietly and weakly nodded.
I raised my watch and asked, "S.E.B.A.S, what is the ETA for Project: Iron?"
My watch whirled to life, and soon, S.E.B.A.S. responded, "I am glad you are okay, sir. The armor is about to land in three minutes and 36 seconds. To remind you, sir, the armor is still in an alpha testing state. You have yet to put it on fully. There is an 83% chance that the armor will break down or hurt you."
Mercy heard that I would use Project: Iron shouted, "You're going to use that! You know it's not fully operational! You just heard S.E.B.A.S Lex. It is not whether it will break down on you but when it will break down on you!"
I looked into Mercy's eyes and placed my hand on her cheek. "I know, Mercy, but too many people have died protecting me; hell, even you protected me! It's time I protect you," I declared.
She blushed, and that is when she pulled my dirtied tie and kissed me, not one filled with lust, but one out of love. Just at that moment, a vast metal tube broke through the ceiling and landed into the ground. The noise the metal tube had made was loud enough for it to be heard a few miles away. We both looked at it and then each other.
"Go somewhere safe, Mercy. They will be here soon after the noise that made."
"Okay, but you better come back to me safe!" Mercy ordered. What she said next surprised me, "I am going to empty you inside me till you have nothing left once all this is over." She soon got up and left for safety.
I smirked, looking at her ass, just imagining what I was going to do to it in the future. However, I brought myself into focus since, in a few minutes, I was going to be in a life-or-death situation for the very first time in both of my lives. I got up and walked to the tall and sizeable imposing metal container.
"Open Project: Iron!" I commanded. The container recognized my voice and opened, revealing the iconic Iron Man suit of armor. However, it was still very incomplete. Parts were exposed, specific weapon systems were not yet in place, and most importantly, the iconic helmet was still missing.
I put on the armor manually as quickly as possible because it was not yet able to wrap around me automatically. Once I had completely put on my armor, I brought out my mini arc reactor and placed it in the hole in the middle of my chest piece. My armor came alive as soon as I put it in, moving around, connecting to each piece, and adjusting itself to fit my shape better.
"The armor is officially on. In its current state, you can only use it for one hour. However, that time may shorten depending on usage, sir ."
It seems that I should use shock-and-awe tactics and be as conservative as possible when using the armor to prevent further battery loss.
"Since Project: Iron is still incomplete, what can it officially do S.E.B.A.S."
"The current systems that are fully operational to you are the repulsion system of both hands, kinetic energy field, and communication systems. The flight system is only partially complete, so a full-on flight will not be possible. However, you will be able to 'dash' and 'double jump,' sir."
I grimaced, for I had very limited options currently, especially without the helmet, which acted like the brain for the armor. Once this was all done, I was definitely going to finish that.
"S.E.B.A.S, use your satellite imaging and hack all nearby cameras within five miles to see if anyone is heading towards me. Also, track all devices in a ten-mile radius that use wifi and are currently moving, and give me an estimate on how long it will take for them to get here."
"Yes, sir. There are currently 13 personnel moving toward your location. Twelve of them seem to be working as a group, while a single individual seems to be working alone. They will both arrive in about 15 minutes or so."
Deadshot is most likely the one working alone. It must have been him who popped the tire on the limo. I will have to be careful when fighting Bane and his men since Deadshot might try to take an opportunistic shot once I am preoccupied. Thankfully, they were 15 minutes away, so I had enough prep time to leave them a little gift.
