After settling the hospital expenses, Su Xiuyu brought Chisato home. "Chisato, this is my home. Stay here for now, and we'll talk about everything else once you've fully recovered."
"Alright," Chisato agreed without protest. Xiuyu was the person closest to her now, and she saw no reason to refuse.
(TL: She is a girl Madara mentioned in the early chapters)
"My parents are ordinary people, so don't be surprised. It's best not to use any ninjutsu in front of them," Su Xiuyu said. He wanted his parents to have a simple life, unlike the constant chaos he dealt with.
Chisato found it odd that Su Xiuyu's parents were ordinary people and didn't quite understand why she couldn't use ninjutsu. But since Xiuyu was her savior and the one person she trusted now, she didn't dwell on it. It was a small request, so she agreed without hesitation.
"Chisato, you've probably realized by now that this isn't the ninja world you're familiar with. It's not the war-torn land you came from."
"Yes," Chisato nodded. "I noticed something was off right away and suspected this wasn't my original world. There are too many differences. The people here are weak, yet their puppetry and technology are highly advanced. It's also much more peaceful and stable."
"You probably guessed that I can travel through time," Su Xiuyu continued. "Can you keep this a secret for me? This is our little secret." He held out his pinky finger. "Let's make a pinky promise."
Chisato chuckled. "Xiuyu, I'm not a three-year-old. How did you even come up with that?" Even as she teased, she still linked her little finger with Xiuyu's.
"Alright," Xiuyu smiled. "Now, let me tell you what happened to the Uchiha clan after you were injured. When I took you away, the Uchiha and Senju clans temporarily joined forces to fend off the sneak attacks from the Kaguya and Blood Pond clans. Later, the Blood Pond clan was completely wiped out. Madara personally insisted on hunting them down to avenge you."
"After that, there was another battle with the Kaguya clan, and over a hundred of their members were wiped out. There shouldn't be many of them left now. However, their leader, Kaguya Itabashi, is still missing."
"That's the situation so far. Do you need me to explain anything else?"
"No, as long as my clan is safe, I can rest easy. I'll wait until my injuries heal before thinking about what comes next," Chisato said. She was a thoughtful person and knew that Xiuyu had many secrets. But since Xiuyu had saved her life and was part of the Uchiha clan, there was no reason for her to pry. Besides, she could feel Xiuyu's kindness.
"In that case, think of this place as your home. Madara treats me like his younger brother, so I'm well taken care of," Xiuyu joked. "You can treat me like your brother too."
Chisato glanced at Xiuyu and murmured, "Brother…" but her voice was too soft for Xiuyu to hear.
"Chisato, I'll be exploring a newly formed space-time wormhole in the next few days. If everything goes well, it could lead to another world. I won't be here to take care of you, but I've prepared plenty of supplies, so make sure to take care of yourself," Xiuyu informed her.
Chisato was surprised. "Do space-time wormholes appear so easily in this world?" She found it strange that such phenomena existed in a world without supernatural abilities.
"Yes. Wormholes appear all over the world, but most are unstable. The one we're exploring this time is rare and relatively stable," Xiuyu explained before ruffling Chisato's hair. "Once you've recovered, I can take you along to explore new worlds."
"Alright! It's a promise then," Chisato smiled. "I'll make sure to recover quickly so I can come along next time." She enjoyed the way Xiuyu treated her, like a true older brother. Madara cared for her too, but his way was always too rigid.
"Then it's settled. I'll head out now," Xiuyu said, waving as he left for Dongjun City.
Xiuyu took the train to Dongjun City. Although he could have traveled much faster using his teleportation technique, it would have drawn too much attention. The train was a safer choice.
When he arrived at the station, it was packed with people.
"Captain Su, over here!" Lei Gang waved at him from the crowd.
"Coming." Xiuyu pushed his way through the throng, using his strength to clear a path. Some people turned to glare at him when they were shoved aside, but as soon as they saw his face, their expressions changed, and they quickly looked away with forced smiles.
Xiuyu was confused. Since when were people so polite? He had expected at least a few complaints, but instead, they all looked at him and backed off.
"Captain Su, do you think the people at the station have good manners?" Zhang Cheng asked, grinning.
Xiuyu raised an eyebrow. "You know the reason?"
"Of course! Remember that guy you taught a lesson to last time? Turns out he was good at drawing. After seeing you once, he made a perfect 3D portrait of your face and started selling it everywhere. He made a fortune, selling each one for 1,000 yuan."
Xiuyu blinked. "And?"
"The best part? That guy even went to the taxation bureau and paid his personal income tax on the money he earned. Isn't that something?" Zhang Cheng laughed.
"Now, thanks to his artwork, every supernatural being from various countries and all over China knows your face. None of them dare mess with you—especially foreigners. They're terrified you'll find an excuse to kill them in the wormhole. That's why they're being so 'polite' at the station."
Xiuyu finally understood why the crowd had been so cooperative. Shaking his head, he sighed. "Well, let's get going."
The space-time wormhole in Dongjun City was located near a farm in the suburbs, surrounded by military forces. Entry was highly regulated.
Chinese citizens had to scan their ID cards, while foreigners had to use their passports. The government kept strict records of who entered because wormhole exploration was life-threatening. If someone died, their families needed to be notified.
The people who came for the expedition were fully aware of the dangers. Some carried cold weapons, others carried firearms, and there was no shortage of eccentric individuals among them.
Xiuyu turned to his team. "Be careful not to bring any obvious firearms. If we end up in a civilized world, walking around with weapons in public will get you arrested. Only take what's necessary, and don't cause trouble for yourselves. Also, remember the team's communication channel in case we get separated."
With that, he stepped forward and entered the wormhole.
"Captain, wait for us! We're coming!"
----
As soon as I stepped out of the space-time wormhole, I was greeted by bright sunshine and a gentle breeze. In the distance, modern buildings stood tall, though there were also a few low village houses scattered around. The overall style was unmistakably that of Sakura Country.
It seemed I had traveled to another alternate version of Sakura Country—this time, a modern world. Fortunately, Su Xiuyu had plenty of sealed scrolls containing essential supplies, including modern clothing.
After waiting for thirty minutes, no one appeared at the spot where I had arrived. It seemed the space-time wormhole was entirely random in its deployment. Using earth sensing, I confirmed that no one from my original world was within a ten-kilometer radius.
With that in mind, Su Xiuyu didn't dwell on the small details. He immediately used the Transformation Technique to alter his appearance and then made his way into the city to gather information.
It didn't take long to reach the bustling streets. As he walked, Su Xiuyu spotted a maid café and decided to step inside.
"Welcome!" Two maids in low-cut uniforms bowed respectfully. "What kind of coffee would Master like? We have many lovely young ladies here."
This was Su Xiuyu's first time in a maid café, and honestly, it felt quite ordinary. As expected, the maids weren't stunning beauties—after all, they were just regular people working part-time. He hadn't come here to admire the staff, anyway.
"Two lattes. And have one of the ladies chat with me for a while."
"Understood, Master. Please wait a moment," one of the maids replied before bowing and walking away.
Soon, two cups of latte were placed on the table. Su Xiuyu deliberately picked a more secluded corner to sit in.
A petite girl, who looked barely old enough to be working, approached with the drinks. Her maid uniform seemed somewhat ill-fitting.
"Hello, Master. Here are the two lattes you ordered. I am your exclusive maid, Kana." She spoke with practiced politeness, but her expression lacked the usual respect. Instead, she plopped down across from Su Xiuyu, resting her chin on her hands as she stared at him.
"Hey, handsome, are you from Tokyo? You don't seem like you're from Osaka. Also, you smell really nice. What brand of cologne do you use?" Kana asked without hesitation, firing off several questions in a row.
Su Xiuyu raised an eyebrow. Was this girl one of those so-called nymphomaniacs from Sakura Country? It was strange—his Transformation Technique had given him an entirely ordinary face, yet this maid was so interested in him. Could it be that his disguise had unintentionally taken the appearance of someone famous, like Daniel Wu?
Kana noticed his silence and pouted. "Hey, I'm not a nympho, okay? I came over because you smell really good. The moment you stepped into the café, I noticed it. So I asked the manager to let me serve you."
Originally, Su Xiuyu had planned to use the Sharingan to manipulate a maid into giving him information about this world. But since Kana was already so talkative, there was no need to go that far.
"I'm not wearing any cologne. Your reasoning doesn't really hold up," he replied, shaking his head.
"I'm not lying!" Kana insisted. "You have this natural scent—like flowers, trees, and sunlight. It's really fresh. Even though your face is pretty average, I was drawn to you because of that smell. If you don't believe me, I can prove it!"
"Oh? And how would you do that?"
"I can tell you every step you took after entering the café. I can even point out exactly where you stopped for a moment."
She proceeded to describe his path through the café with eerie accuracy, even identifying the exact tables where he had lingered. There were no surveillance cameras in the shop, and Su Xiuyu hadn't noticed her earlier, meaning she truly had found him based on scent alone.
A thought flickered in Su Xiuyu's mind, but it wasn't clear enough to grasp. He decided not to overthink it for now.
"What school do you go to?" he asked instead.
"Finally, you're not being so cold!" Kana grinned. "I go to Beigao. What about you, handsome?"
Beigao. Kana. That sounded familiar.
"Does Xigao exist in this world, too?"
"Yeah, are you from Xigao? I'm pretty familiar with it, but I've never seen you before. And trust me, if you were there, I would've noticed you by your scent."
"Is your real name Kana?"
"Yep. Why?"
Su Xiuyu was now about eighty percent sure of which world he had ended up in. Kana had a unique ability to track people by their scent and studied at Beigao. Wasn't this the world of Parasyte?
"Have there been any brutal murders recently?" he asked casually.
Kana blinked. "No? What kind of question is that? This is Tokyo. Sure, it's not completely crime-free, but there haven't been any crazy murder cases or anything."
That meant the Parasytes hadn't emerged yet. That was good news. He needed to find a way to contact his team and warn them. The last thing he wanted was for any of them to be taken over by Parasytes and turned into mindless husks.
As for Kana—if Su Xiuyu recalled correctly, she was a brave but reckless girl. She had tried to find Shinichi using her ability, but instead, she encountered a Parasyte and bled to death after being attacked.
Su Xiuyu wasn't a saint, but he figured he might as well warn her since she had been helpful.
"Alright, Kana, I've finished my coffee. Before I leave, let me give you a piece of advice."
Kana tilted her head. "Huh?"
"Don't go looking for special people just because you think you can sense them."
She blinked again, clearly confused.
"Like right now. You're sitting here chatting with me without a care in the world. What if I were a bad guy? You should be more cautious. Feelings aren't always reliable," he continued. "That's all. Take care."
Su Xiuyu stood up, paid for his drinks, and prepared to leave. But to his surprise, Kana followed him.
"Why are you trailing me?" He sighed, both amused and annoyed. "I'm a grown man, and you're a high school girl. Aren't you worried I might do something shady?"
"Don't be so heartless!" Kana grinned. "Look, I'm just walking in the same direction as you. Total coincidence!"
"Besides," she added, flashing a mischievous smile, "you smell really nice. If you wanted to do something…," she pressed her chest forward, "I wouldn't necessarily mind~"
Su Xiuyu nearly choked. Had he just been teased by a high school girl? Twice?
Enough was enough.
He glanced around, making sure no one was nearby, then reached out and made a sudden, exaggerated motion—
"Then I won't be polite."
"Aahhh!" Kana yelped, instantly crossing her arms over her chest. "Uncle! Why are you like this?!"
