Chapter 14 - Chapter Fourteen : Destiny

...

She stayed in her room until the sun went down. Then, she sat down at her desk. She took a piece of paper and a pen. She stared at the paper for a few seconds. Then, she sighed and started writing.

Hey, it's your mom. You might not be ready to hear this from me, but I'm waiting for you to call me Mom.

I know you're still in shock and don't want to talk or see me, but I want to talk with you. This letter will answer all your questions and show you what I'm really like. I'm scared while writing this letter, but I want you to know the truth before anyone else.

When I was twenty, I lived in a simple house in Florida. My parents had already died, and I had no one except for my older brother, Edward. He lived in Washington and sent me money every now and then. He was just a simple employee in Madison's company for jewelry design.

One day, there was a big scam, and the company lost a lot of money. They blamed Edward for it because the evidence was against him. I refused to believe that my brother would do something so terrible. He was one of the most hardworking employees, and everyone said that he was innocent. He begged the Madison family to give him a chance to defend himself, but they didn't believe him.

He was sentenced to twenty years in prison. Then I became alone, and I had no choice but to work in a toy factory. Four years later, he got pneumonia and died in prison. I was heartbroken.

At that time, I decided to move to Washington to find a way to get revenge for my brother. I sold all my belongings and hired spies to spy on the Madison Company, hoping to find the truth or perhaps prove my brother's innocence. What I found shocked me.

Lara Williams worked as a secretary in that company. My brother liked her a lot and started getting close to her. Albert Madison became enraged when he suspected that Lara was attracted to my brother as well. It turned out that he had feelings for her, too. He created a scam and blamed my brother for everything.

Because of that, I felt nothing but hatred for him. I was determined to make him suffer. I found out that he had a younger brother named Daniel. I tried to get his admiration by working a few months in a bakery near the company. I found out that Daniel visited the store every day to buy sweet things. In the end, I made him mine. When he finally asked me to marry him, I accepted. I knew that by marrying him, I would be close to Albert and live with him in their luxurious mansion. I would be able to do this without letting anyone discover my real identity.

I fell in love with Daniel, who was treating me like a queen. But I felt guilty at first because I used him to get revenge on Albert. I tried to ignore it. I didn't want him to find out that I tricked him. Every morning, I put a pill in Albert's coffee. It had a serious effect on his nervous system and his body's organs. He became more tired and sick over time. He finally got hospitalized and fell into a coma for several weeks. The doctors told Daniel that his brother might be addicted or have serious problems that made him think of suicide.

I admit that I wished Albert would die. I wanted him to suffer the same way my brother did. One day, they told us that Albert woke up and the medical treatment was working. I don't know what happened to me that day. I felt like everything I had built had fallen apart. I went into his hospital room with a gun. I revealed my reality in front of everyone, including my husband, and I will never forget the way he looked at me, the shock and disappointment on his face.

I was shocked and upset that Daniel didn't believe me even though he had heard the truth from me. He loved his brother so much that he never saw his dark side, and that hurt me the most.

I still remember Daniel's face when I was sentenced to two years in prison. He looked cold and unemotional, like he didn't love me at all. Then there was Albert, who looked at me with a smirk, like he had won. He got rid of me, and he still has his family by his side, not like me. I was alone.

I was in prison when I found out I was pregnant. I was shocked. I didn't want to be a mother in prison. I also didn't want to have any relationship with Daniel because of what happened between us and after the divorce.

I was depressed and didn't know what to do. Everything was against me. In the end, I accepted fate. I gave birth to you there. When your father found out, he took you away from me. I lost the right to raise you. That was the worst day of my life. I felt like the only happiness I had was stolen from me.

I'm not telling you this to make you hate your dad. I know he treated you well and loved you a lot. I don't blame him. He was confused and hurt, but I want him to listen to me. I wanted him to show me that he really loved me.

When I got out of prison, the first thing I did was look for you. I decided to do my best to bring you back to me. I went to that cursed house looking for you. I was shocked to find out that Al Madison sold the house and left.

I went crazy looking for you. I felt like you were kidnapped and I would never see you again, but then I used all the strength and courage I had left to rebuild my life. I wanted to show the Madison family that I was back stronger. I worked hard in many places to earn money that helped me create and develop my company that I am proud of. I used a fortune to pay people to search for you, but it was in vain.

I never lost hope. After many years, destiny brought us together again in an unexpected way, here. In Washington, where we separated.

My name is Veronica Davis. I've overcome tough challenges, and now I'm facing another one: winning my son's heart.

When you read this letter and want to see me, I will be there for you until the end of my life. If you decide to leave me, I want you to know that I will still love you and look at you the same way I did when I first saw you as a beautiful baby.

The pen started shaking in her hand as she started to cry. Sharing her past for the first time with others was harder than living it. She folded the paper and sighed deeply. She leaned her head on the chair and stared at the dark ceiling in silence.

And then, startled by the knocking on her bedroom door, she heard the voice of the person she was waiting for behind the door: "Veronica, it's me, Aiden."

She went over to the door, opened it, and smiled a little at him. "Thanks for coming," she said. She opened the door wide to let him in.

She went to the desk table, picked up the letter, and put it in his hand. "This is the last favor I'm asking of you. Please make sure Taylor reads it."

He looked her in the face for a moment, then lowered his eyes to the letter, then nodded. "I will," he said.

She smiled at him, grateful, and then he opened the door to leave. But as soon as he did, he was startled by Ashley standing in front of him. She was looking at him with teary eyes, then she looked behind him at her mom, who immediately knew that Ryan had told her everything. She didn't have to keep a secret from her family or tell them everything by herself.

At that moment, she didn't feel angry at her husband. She felt surprisingly relieved. Her daughter rushed to her and hugged her tightly while crying bitterly, "I'm sorry, Mom. I'm sorry you had to face all these hard things by yourself."

Veronica couldn't hold it together any longer. She'd never shown anyone her weak side in years, and she started to cry as she hugged her daughter like a teddy bear, the kind a child looks for in moments of sadness. She found it beautiful, despite how hard the moment was.

...

He was just relaxing on his bed when he was startled by a noise coming from somewhere in his house. He sat up and looked around his bedroom, his eyes furrowed in confusion.

He heard a weird noise, and he thought it might be coming from the kitchen.

He opened the bedside table drawer quietly to get his gun, and he walked carefully toward the kitchen. He sighed with relief when he saw that his balcony windows were open and the curtains were blown away by the breeze.

He put the weapon on the table, and just as he was about to close the windows, he felt a hot breath on his neck. He froze where he was, and his eyes opened really wide when he recognized Albert's deep voice, which was right close to his ear, whispering to him maliciously, "Hey, Benjamin, it's been a while."

His heart was beating fast, and he took a deep breath before looking at him out of the corner of his eye. "Albert?"

He pressed the gun barrel against Benjamin's neck and said, "Albert Madison, who was accused of embezzlement and forging legal documents after his company went bankrupt, was sentenced to ten years in prison. He came back to take revenge on his friend, who was his partner, but ended up stabbing him in the back and reporting him to clear his name before the court".

"They pressured me to confess; they made me confess, believe me, Albert!" He said, as he gasped for air, barely able to fill his lungs.

A slight smile spread across the curly-haired man's lips as he continued to spew his high-caliber grudge, ignoring what his old friend had said just a few seconds ago. "But Benjamin didn't play it safe. He didn't think about the possibility that Albert would get out of prison one day and come after him and slaughter him like a sheep when he finds him."

"Don't hurt me, Albert. Don't be ungrateful and remember how many times I've helped you."

Benjamin's words didn't make the dead man's heart skip an inch, but they did make him even more determined to avenge him. He slowly raised the gun to his head.

"Benjamin Miller, a lonely man in his fifties suffering from severe mental problems, ended up committing suicide."

This was the last thing Benjamin heard before the bullet hit his head and he fell to the ground, covered in blood.

He smirked behind his mask, leaned over, and put the gun on the floor near the victim. Then, he sneaked behind the backyard fence, took off his black gloves, shoved them into his pants pockets, and vanished from sight like a black cat in the dark of night.
