Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 – The Storm Brewing

Heaven sat on the edge of the bed, staring out the massive glass windows of Dylan's mansion. The city lights twinkled in the distance, but her mind was elsewhere.

Richard was finally out of the picture—for now. But something told her this wasn't over. She wasn't naïve enough to believe Dylan had truly won.

Not in a world like his.

Her fingers clenched the silk sheets as she replayed his words from earlier.

"You belong to me."

She hated the way her heart reacted. The way her body trembled—not from fear, but from something deeper.

Damn him.

A knock on the door pulled her out of her thoughts.

"Heaven?"

Jayden.

She hesitated before answering. "Come in."

Jayden stepped inside, his expression unreadable. "I figured you'd be awake."

"Can't sleep."

Jayden nodded as if he understood. He leaned against the wall, arms crossed. "Are you alright?"

Heaven scoffed. "That's a stupid question."

Jayden sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Look, I know things are messy, but you should try to rest. Dylan won't let anything happen to you."

Her jaw clenched. "That's the problem."

Jayden studied her for a moment before shaking his head. "You're fighting something you've already lost, Heaven."

She shot him a glare. "I haven't lost anything."

Jayden gave her a knowing smirk. "Right. Keep telling yourself that."

Before she could snap back, the door opened again—this time, with no warning.

Dylan.

His presence sucked the air from the room.

He didn't look at Jayden. His cold, piercing gaze was locked on her.

"Out."

Jayden sighed but didn't argue. He gave Heaven one last glance before walking past Dylan and closing the door behind him.

Silence.

Dylan took slow steps toward her. "You shouldn't entertain other men in your room, kitten."

Heaven rolled her eyes. "Jayden isn't—"

"I don't care." His voice was low, dangerous. "I don't share what's mine."

Her breath hitched. "I'm not—"

Dylan tilted her chin up with a finger, forcing her to meet his gaze. "Not yet."

Her heart pounded against her ribs.

She hated him.

She hated how he could make her feel like this.

She hated that some dark part of her didn't want to pull away.

Dylan's lips curled into a smirk, as if he could read her mind. "Get some sleep, kitten. You'll need your strength."

She swallowed hard. "Why?"

His smirk disappeared. "Because this war isn't over."

A chill ran down her spine.

"Richard may be out of the way," Dylan continued, "but he isn't the only threat."

He turned away, heading for the door.

"Rest while you can, Heaven." He glanced at her over his shoulder. "Because when the next storm hits, there won't be any safe places left."

With that, he was gone.

And Heaven was left staring at the door, her chest rising and falling too fast.

She had a terrible feeling.

Something worse than Richard was coming.

And this time, she wasn't sure Dylan could stop it.
