"If you had wanted Harvey to win back then, I would've let him win," Waldo's voice flowed lazily from his lips, his gaze locked on Regina's shocked expression. He scoffed lightly and continued, "Harvey is far too arrogant. He set a record in the military—five-level wind-under-a-thousand-meter target-shifting marks—and no one has ever surpassed it. He thinks his vision is fast, fast enough to see the cards the dealer shuffles, and he believes he sees them clearly!"
"Yes, his vision is indeed fast," Waldo's eyes sharpened, his face contorting with contempt. "Because he saw them, he didn't cut the deck!"
But Waldo's eyes darkened with a predatory gleam, and his angular face took on a scornful expression. "But he forgot one thing... the casino has its own rules."
Regina's heart sank. Although she had already known that Waldo had won the hand and Harvey had lost, hearing Waldo speak of it now made it feel as though the outcome was still hanging in the balance...
