Chapter 12 - Getting Treated

Seraph bent down and picked Luden up and ran toward his bike that was parked near this area.

Meanwhile, the other Vindcatros started to get to work; the more they killed, the more corrupt people they found out.

Seraph drove his bike near the gate. He got off his bike when he walked toward the guards; all the adventurers scattered and opened a way for him. Soon he reached where the guards were, and he started searching a few faces. Finally, he found a familiar guard he saw in the memory. He got near the guard; the closer he got, the more the guard shook until he stood in front of him. All the other guards didn't dare to interfere. Searph put his hand on the guard's face just as the guard was about to shout, "What are you doing?"

[Memory reveal] Soon an influx of information came to Seraph's mind about the different bribes and deeds the guard did with different gangs and even info about some adventures that these gangs wanted to kill and a few other guards names with it too.

"Tiber Landoian, you are charged with the crimes of bribery and treason. Prepare for light judgment." Said Seraph. Everyone around them started to panic, and some guards ran so they wouldn't get caught in the judgment. Soon, a light came from the sky and landed on the guards, who started to scream in a heart-wrenching scream. After a few seconds, the lights faded away, and the guard was no more, turned to just dust.

Everyone on the site was horrified. They knew Vindicators was scary, but this?

Seraph then searched for the other guards and didn't find any of the other suspects. He went to his bike, where Luden was unconscious and waiting. "Go on," the guards ran toward the door to open it. "For God's sake, open and let him leave." "The faster he leaves, the better."

Seraph drove to the lower city on his way; his radio was busy with the other Viondactors talking about whom they judged and updating new names. Seraph has added a few names, too. While he was talking, Seraph thought about the best place to house an awakened child; the only answer that came to his head was the academy. So he got his tablet and input all the academies in the lower district, and one academy stood out for him, which was Phoenix Academy, which houses children from all the cities and is funded by the Fortress and a few investors from high society. Seraph looks at Luden and remembers the life he has lived so far. And decide to take the best one at the lower district.

So he makes his way to another place first. Soon, he realizes Luden is awake and now looking quietly around from the bike. "You are awake, Little Light. How are you feeling?"

"Who are you? Did you kidnap me again?" says Luden in a low voice

"No, I'm a Vindicator Seraph. I saved you from the clutches of the Vermins. I promise you they will never bother you again."

"saved me?" Luden remembers how he had to fight his way to the end; if that mysterious power hadn't controlled his body, he would have been captured or dead by now, and this person saying he saved him—Luden has one word in his mind: "Too late."

"Yes, I found them unconscious there, and they were dead. Do you remember what happened?"

"No, I don't," says Luden. He doesn't want to remember that feeling of being possessed and watch them kill each other like that again.

Seraph notices Luden's startled expression, sighs, and tries to change the topic. "I will take you to an academy and enroll you there."

"An academy? What is that?" asks Luden.

"Didn't your parent tell you about it?" Parent Luden remembers his family again and gets sad. How would a wolf know about the academy?

Seraph notices Luden's sad fluctuation and almost slaps himself for being too dumb and asking such questions to an orphan. "It's a place where they teach those who awaken how to use their power; it will be a great place for you to learn how to use your new powers. There are expert instructors to guide you and teachers to teach different subjects. And you will meet new friends your age who are also awakened."

Luden listens; the more he listens, the more excited he gets, but the idea of the other people scares him, especially recalling the way they treated him so far. He wants to go but is reluctant to; he just got awakened too, and he doesn't understand. his powers

"Look what happened there to you will never happen to you ever again. I promise that everyone will get punished. Even as we speak, they are getting punished by us, the Vindicators. This is a promise from me to you," says Seraph.

"Promise," mutters Luden. Oh, how that word haunted him! He looks at Seraph's back and reads the word justice on his back and says, "Ok."

"That's great, but first let's get you to the hospital. You will have to stay there for a few days, probably, then I will pick you up later."

"Will they treat me?" asks Luden.

"Why wouldn't they?" Just as Seraph is about to finish his word, he remembers the memory of Luden trying to get medical care. He added a few extra names to his list and said to Luden, "Of course they will leave it to me."

Seraph soon reaches a hospital and picks up Luden in his arms and goes to the door.

Soon the pedestrians and those who work there notice someone coming in with a vindicator outfit. and start to panic. "It's a Vindicator! Why is he here? This is a hospital!" "Look, there is a child in his arm." "I heard the Vindicators are on the move again and started to clean up everywhere." They all make way for them.

Luden notices everyone's reaction and finally takes a good look at Seraph, who is wearing a long, white, rope-white jacket and white pants with a futuristic helmet that covers his whole face with one antenna on it and a long white sword on his back.

"What is a Vindicator, mister? And why is everyone scared of you?" finally asks Luden.

Seraph chuckles, "It's an occupation where we get to punish the bad guys using our powers. Those who are scared are the ones who did a minor sin before."

"You can tell they sinned before?" asks Luden in surprise.

"Yes, we can see, but once one makes a sin big enough, he will get punished by us, which is why you little Light are peculiar to me; I can't detect anything from you."

"That was the first time I saw him. 'Little Light,' I called him. I saw a light was flickering inside of him, a light of hope to still not be giving up on us. If only I knew that day… What if I didn't give him hope?"

Seraph takes Luden to the front desk, where the worker there starts to panic when he sees a Vindicator coming for her. "He's going to smite me," she thinks, but soon she notices a sick boy in his arms and puts on a professional smile and welcomes him. "Welcome to Saint Hope Hospital, Lord Vindicator. How can I help you?"

Seraph clears his throat and speaks in a hoarse voice: "This child has been abused by a gang of scums and lost an arm and eye; half his body is turning black, and he is fragile. Attention, take him to an emergency room and take care of him. I will come to check on him later and take him to New Academy soon. I hope he is in very good shape."

The worker is surprised by the Vidnctaor's request and complies fast by pressing the button on her right and speaking, I need a stretcher here and clear a room for an emergency patient immediately. And she writes a quick report of Luden and puts it at the top with a red mark. Brought by a vindicator on it, it then speaks with Seraph: Lord Vindcartor, everything has been arranged. Soon a worker will take him to a room quickly and treat him. Is there any other request?"

"None, I have people to judge now. I will leave him in your care now." Seraph put Luden on the upcoming stretcher and gave a smile and said, "Little Light, I will be back in a few days. In the meantime, get well, and we will talk later. I have work to do. I have to bring justice to you by judging everyone who is responsible for what happened to you." He pats Luden's head and walks out of the room.

Luden watches Seraph leave with mixed emotions and lies down and closes his eyes to rest while beginning to tire of even caring about what is happening around him anymore.

Seraph walks to his bike and asks on the radio, "Is there any report on the incident location?"

A voice comes from the radio soon: "Whatever this ability is, it is too sinister, too powerful; even my light is growing weaker by just being near it. I spotted 17 elements mixed in it, like devouring, fear, gravity, illusion, darkness, and some other elements that weaken your emotions or amplify the pain, and they all are the highest affinity I have ever seen. Whatever it is, I can only hope it is not hostile."

Another voice asks, "Agent Seraph, what about the boy?"

Seraph takes a minute to think. "He is weird; half of my power doesn't work when I'm with him, but the sword of light is not triggering when he is next to it, which means he didn't do anything bad, and I see light within him, albeit it is too small, but compared to what he has been through, this small light is a miracle for a boy his age."

The voice responded again. "This case is very perplexing, but whatever that boy did to those men is not punishable by the law. All we have to know for now is, Agent Seraph, you will have to keep an eye on the boy and monitor any action he is doing and warn these money-hungry pigs at the academy to not mess with him. Whatever it is, even the power of Vincatoprs can't be anything good to be against."

"Will do; meanwhile, ask some of the sleeping agents to monitor the hospital for now and keep an eye on these workers and protect the boy. We don't want that power to manifest in the city," says Seraph.

"Send an update of the names," requested Seraph.

Meanwhile, Luden gets taken by the stretcher to a room full of medical devices. He gets carried into the bed by a nurse; soon a doctor comes and checks his status. The more the doctor learns, the more he sighs, "What kind of treatment did this child go through to be this wounded?"

He then turns to the nurse and orders, "I want him to be submerged in life fluid for 2 days so he can get some vitality before we start any other treatments. I will also need a priest to be here in 2 days to cure his gangrene as much as possible to stop this tissue death. Here are a few medical treatments: he must be fed while he is in life fluid to further his recovery.

4 days later, Luden finally opened his eyes; he noticed that he was lying on something that felt comfortable. He ran his hand over the mattress and said, Is this what they call a bed? Finally, he looked around and watched the room. It was a white room full of medical equipment with white lights on top and a constant beeping sound and a weird smell that he didn't like.

Finally, he noticed there was not a lot of pain around his body anymore, and he felt strong vitality running through him. I watched his body, and it wasn't fully back like before, but his missing arm was still there and his eye too; most of his wound turned to just scars.

Finally, he notices a woman wearing white clothes come in. "How are you feeling, sweetie?" says the nurse.

Luden says, "I'm feeling better. Thank you for saving my life, ma'am."

"He he, I'm not the one who did it; it's the doctor, OK? I'm going to need to do one last check on you before reporting to the doctor," says the nurse.

After she does the checks, she leaves to bring the doctor. Luden lies down and watches the ceiling and thinks of the past few days. Finally, he remembers something and looks at the corner and sees a flashing button that belongs to the system screen.
