Chapter 4 - Church

At first, there was dark.

Then, there was dark.

It kept being dark for some time.

Quite a long time.

And then there was light!

"ONCE MOOOOORE!" A young man screams on top of his lungs when he wakes up in a bed with rudimentary leather mattress that he reckoned as being just like his old house floor, his eyes not looking nowhere specific.

He breathes inward and lets a heavy sigh escape, his throat making a croaking sound.

"Oh, thank goodness, you're finally wake..." A petite, black clad nun says in a low gasping voice, she rushes towards him and holds his hand, the hero slowly drifting his attention to her features.

With a sudden jolt, she takes her hands off his and steps back, letting her arms rest on her front while regaining her composure, putting on a gentle and soft smile.

"I am so relieved you're ok, how do you feel sir?" She felt like her face was a bit too warm.

Having lived her life as a holy maiden of the church of Joulle her whole life, she could not bring herself to be at ease around men. As a nun, her role as a bride of the all mighty was one of the highest order, and she couldn't make her heart waver for earthly desires.

"My heart have wavered before your cuteness." The young man said as he tilted his head, and promptly crawling in his fours towards the open door, which he closed with a gentle thud.

"Chat, what were we supposed to do here again." Watching with interest the red beet face of the young nun as she clutched her chest and prayed confused to what the hero just did, they promptly answered.

"Talk with the reverend, he will give you your official blessing and as such, you will be recognized as the hero of legend." As the hero crossed the hall with trotting, Chat looked at the status screen once again as to stop having doubts about what happened.

The status screen was normal at first, it displayed his strength, speed, dexterity, mana points, skills and name, but after he fainted it changed completely, now only showing his name and his skill as a speedster, whose even level have completely disappeared, and now had a black background with light borders, unlike before where it was all shades of blue light.

'Odd, very odd.' They said themselves as the hero opened the door to the main prayer room, huge glass windows giving the whole place a humble but glorious feeling all around, mostly humble due to it's small size and lack of luxuries more big city churches had, the most this one had was a pretty piece of red cloth with the religion symbol on it, resting on the table where the head priest gave his speeches.

"Wait, wait!" The nun came out of the door, that fell out of it's hinges after she slammed it open, which caused her to step back, both hands in her face in shock.

"And later they call me unhinged." The hero slapped his own knee, then crossed his arms and jumped towards the nun, who did a whelp when he grabbed her by the shoulders.

"Are you the reverend?" She felt as if her heart run around in circles inside her chest, wanting to jump out so it didn't have to deal with this... odd fellow.

"N-n-no, i am a simple nun... H-he had to go deal with some bandits that arrived early today..." The hero spin around, his body tilting forward as he walked very fast towards the church big double doors, which he opened and without closing them back, sit on the ground where the floor ended.

"And now, we wait!" He said, pointing at the sky while looking forward down to the way forward, a little fence with some plants interwoven between its rustic wood.

The nun stood behind him, not sure how to deal with this whole situation. She expected him to be in the bed and not fully well from his exhaustion, and yet he bolts away at high speeds when she least expects it.

In fact, this man is an utter mystery. His eyes look directly through her, not like he is looking at her eyes, but at her very own mind, she feels a tingle in her back when his cold, unblinking expression is over her, like a gust of winter wind.

His mannerisms are much more like a child than a grown man, looking around and running towards anything he catches his eyes on, speaking in a very direct and blunt manner, his speech formal but said fast and impatiently, a aloofness you'd see on a baby when he talks to himself, his mouth half open exposing his yellowish teeth.

'Oh Father Edward, what would you do...' He was supposed to come back in just a few moments, but the more time she spent alone with this young man, she felt as if he would jump at her, bite her neck and slowly lick the way down her nape, rip off her clothes with his bare hands and...

"YOU." His voice croaked, his back curved way more than it should, his fingers wavering as he pointed at her forehead, his other hand scratching the ground.

"What are you called." He said, leaning the back of his hand against the chin as he laid on top of his other arm, his legs shift at an uncomfortable angle.

Her mind paused for a moment, eyes unable to believe that someone could bend themselves in such a way, the sound of his bones click as she looked away, her hand gripping her other arm as the sight before her made it feel like her back would start hurting at any second now.

But it didn't start hurting, her throat did, as she felt the courage slipping away with each tap of his fingers hitting the stone floor, not sure why she was feeling so nervous.

Something about him seemed... off putting.

But, she straightened her legs, took a deep breath, cleared her throat, put her hands on the front and did a little bow.

"My name is Annie, nice to meet you!" No matter how weird this young man behaved, she still needed to be calm and compassionate to him, after all, he did appear on the entrance of the village and collapsed under heavy rain, he needed to be taken care of if his mind was copping with some sort of trauma after all...

The hero laid his back against the ground, and lifted himself using only his legs, his back facing Annie as he leaned forward and popped his back with his arms stretched up, the sound of them cracking quite loud.

Slowly facing her, he smiled.

His eyes squinted, his lips curled back as his teeth seemed to float in his mouth, his gums barely visible due to him facing against the light outside, his features obscured by shadows as he muttered.

"That's quite a nice name, sister..."
