Chapter 15 - 15: Final Mission

---

The dark, humid corridors of the ant nest pulsed with life and decay. Kai's chitinous body shuddered as he stretched his legs, his antennae twitching in anticipation. His goal was set: reach Level 10 before the deadline. The system had promised power, and Kai was determined to claim it, no matter what trials lay ahead.

[Ding! System notifications: Host you have a new problem. The exit route is blocked. A new mission has been assigned.

Kai's mandibles clicked in frustration. He had just finished dealing with waves of enemies, and now the system had dropped an area boss mission on him. "Figures," he muttered. "No rest for the wicked, huh?"

But deep inside, excitement burned alongside the fatigue. If this was the trial standing between him and Level 10, he would tear through it.

Now, with Level 5 status glowing on his interface, Kai's determination only deepened. He had come too far to falter now. The next tunnel beckoned with unknown dangers, and every challenge that lay ahead was another opportunity to push past his limits. His muscles still throbbed with the raw power of absorbed essence, his mind sharp with an unfaltering will.

"Obstacles will challenge every last bit of my strength," he grumbled to himself. "But I won't quit until I shatter my current limits and achieve Level 10."

Kai stood at the head of the next tunnel, prepared for whatever lay ahead. The path was darker and more treacherous, the distant echoes of roars and the ominous rumbling of shifting earth filling the stale air. Each step forward was a battle—not only against the environment but against the creeping doubt that lurked in the corners of his mind.

"Am I strong enough? Will I survive the outside world?"

But each time hesitation threatened to take hold, he remembered, the fights, the pain, the victories. He recalled every near-death experience, every enemy he had devoured for strength, and the raw power surging through his veins.

He clenched his mandibles, resolved to solidify like hardened steel. He had survived everything so far. He would survive this, too.

Few days later, The oppressive darkness of the ant trail cave had always been both a crucible and a prison, a labyrinth of twisting corridors, echoing chambers, and shadows haunted by memories of battles fought and lives lost. But now, that darkness was on the verge of yielding to the light of a new beginning.

For Kai, the stakes had never been higher.

His body thrummed with a mix of anticipation and exhaustion as he neared the mission's final challenge. Every nerve in his body screamed at him to turn back, to wait until he was stronger. But he ignored it.

He had reached the deepest recesses of the cave, a vast chamber where the air was thick with decay and the stench of rot. This was the domain of the area boss.

At the heart of this forsaken sanctum stood the Zombie Ant Leader.

A towering, grotesque figure, its body crowned with tattered mandibles and adorned with patches of pulsating fungal growth. Unlike the mindless zombie ants that roamed the tunnels, this creature radiated intelligence… corrupted intelligence. Its empty, milky eyes fixed onto Kai, recognizing him as something different. Something dangerous.

A wave of sheer, oppressive aura crashed into Kai like a tidal wave. His exoskeleton rattled under the invisible pressure, his legs instinctively locking up for a fraction of a second.

[Ding! Warning: You are in the presence of a One-Star Boss!

Survival Instinct Activated – Increasing Reflexes and Speed by 30% for the duration of the fight.]

Kai's body moved before he even processed the notification, leaping backward just as the Zombie Ant Leader lunged forward with terrifying speed. Its rotting mandibles snapped shut, missing his head by mere inches. The shockwave of the bite sent dust and shattered rock flying in all directions.

"Fast!"

Kai landed on the wall, pushing off immediately to avoid the follow-up strike. The boss's fungal-infected limbs lashed out, spores erupting into the air with each movement.

[Ding! Alert: Airborne spores detected. Possible infection risk, initiating temporary resistance boost.]

Kai narrowed his eyes. If those spores latched onto him, they could slow his movements or worse, take control of his body.

"No way in hell I'm letting that happen."

Kai activated Tiny Tank, hardening his exoskeleton just as the boss slammed into him with the force of a falling boulder. The impact sent him skidding across the chamber, his claws digging into the dirt to halt his momentum.

The Zombie Ant Leader let out a deep, guttural hiss, its fungal growths pulsating violently. The creature's body twitched and twisted unnaturally, as if the infection controlling it was struggling to maintain control over its decaying form.

Kai analyzed his options. Brute force wouldn't work here. The boss was bigger, stronger, and more resilient than anything he had faced before. He needed a strategy.

"Its movements are unnatural. Unstable. That means there's a weakness." Kai murmured himself.

Kai dashed forward, weaving between the boss's spore-laced strikes. He aimed low, targeting its leg joints. His mandibles clamped down hard, slicing through infected tissue and rotting chitin.

The boss screeched, the cavern walls trembling from the sheer force of its rage.

[Ding! Target's Mobility Reduced by 15%.]

Kai said, "Good. But not enough."

The boss retaliated, its fungal limbs expanding like living tendrils. One wrapped around Kai's midsection, lifting him into the air before slamming him into the ground with bone-crushing force.

[Warning! HP Dropped Below 50%.]

Kai choked on air, his entire body reeling from the impact. But he wasn't done yet. He activated Essence Eater, his mandibles locking onto the fungal limb and tearing into it.

A dark mist erupted from the wound, flowing into Kai's body. The infected energy flooded his system, but instead of harming him, it strengthened him.
