Rowan was quiet on our way back to the palace.
"What's up, lad?"
"There's a whole colony of them down there, sir." He said.
"A family, you mean."
"A coven."
"They're not evil, Rowan."
"Yes, they are sir. That's why they were banished."
I shook my head. "I think there's something happening there that's bigger than you or I. The Pale Queen judges, yes, but she also forgives. I think the good abbot is trying to spread a little of that forgiveness to a people that really need it."
"The repentant?"
"If you will. Look, lad. I know the Pale Queen. This is absolutely something she would do."
"You know the damage they can cause."
"I was on the same dig you were. I saw first hand the damage they could cause. But, do those people down there remind you of the terrors we unleashed when we opened that crypt?"
Rowan didn't reply.
I patted his shoulder. "We're all equal before the Rending, lad, banished or not."
I stopped walking.
