If he wasn't at the house of Athellen, then he must be out looking for me... But where?
I quickened my pace toward the last inn we stayed at. It was the most logical place. Maybe he had returned there.
I nearly kicked the inn door out of nerves.
As I entered, the scent of old wood and dust greeted me, along with the sound of light footsteps on the creaky wooden stairs. Ezric appeared from the upper floor, his eyes half-lidded with sleep.
But the moment he saw me—or more accurately, saw the two evil elves behind me—he leapt down two steps at once and stood in front of me like a half-asleep bodyguard.
"What did you do to her?!" he shouted, glaring sharply at Kaelith and Sylas. "Back off! Don't touch Lana!"
Kaelith simply raised an eyebrow. Sylas, on the other hand, let out a small laugh. "Wow, is this kid not afraid if I will hit him again?"
I immediately grabbed Ezric's clenched fist. "Ezric, calm down. They're not going to hurt me. I'm safe, really."
