"Sorry, something came up with my mom. You can leave without me." Benny's text glowed on her screen.
Rexan sighed, staring at the empty hallway. Benny had left her after making her wait for thirty whole minutes, running off without much of an explanation.
She turned to leave, but before she could comprehend what was happening, she was suddenly pinned against the lockers.
"We meet again, little thing," a voice sneered.
Her breath hitched as she saw him, Reg, pressing her firmly into the cold metal. A blade hovered dangerously close to her stomach, mere millimeters from her skin.
"What are you doing living among humans?" he asked, his tone dark and accusing.
She had no idea what he was talking about. Her mind spun, trying to make sense of his words, but all she could focus on was his sheer strength.
With just one hand, he held her wrists together and lifted her off her feet as though she weighed nothing.
"Does the school know that a 21-year-old is impersonating a high school kid?" she retorted, her voice defiant despite the tension crackling between them.
"You don't fight fair," she sneered, glaring into his piercing eyes.
"Fair?" He let out a low, bitter laugh. "You tried to rip my scalp apart with your fingers... I have bruises," he whispered, his lips so close to hers that she could feel his breath. A small, traitorous part of her yearned to taste them again.
"You liked it, though," she said, her voice sultry as she leaned in, catching his bottom lip lightly between her teeth.
His gaze darkened, but instead of retaliating, he abruptly dropped her onto the floor. She landed on her ass with a sharp gasp, glaring up at him.
"From now henceforth," he declared, his tone cold and authoritative, "you will be under 24-hour surveillance for the next seven days."
And with that, he turned and strode away, leaving her stunned and breathless on the hallway floor.
