Sandy's POV
"Oh yeah?" Sandy asked, immediately crouching down to meet Cyrus at eye level.
She could feel Ricky's gaze burning into the top of her head, but she ignored it for now.
"Yes! And I finished my meal too," Cyrus said proudly, grinning at her, but just then his attention shifted as he turned his gaze towards Ricky.
Sandy felt her heart drop.
Cyrus's bright eyes were no longer fixed on her but instead on Ricky. The strange man he was seeing for the first time.
She inhaled deeply, as she tried to calm down her racing pulse, but her heartbeat responded by only speeding up more.
No, no, no… This isn't good. What was she supposed to say? No one was supposed to see Cyrus: no one but her and Selene.
Cyrus was supposed to be a secret. Selene wasn't ready. She wanted to do the reveal on her own terms.
The thought made Sandy's chest ache.
But still, she knew that, beyond any doubt that, Selene truly loved her son more than anything in the world, with every bone in her body.
