The early morning sun poured in through the floor-length curtained glass window of the room.
Eve blinked her eyes open and sat up on the bed. She was still for a few moments before she quickly glanced beside her on the bed. It was…empty.
She had fallen asleep while apprehensively waiting for Malakai to come back home yesterday. Even after ten in the evening, there had been no sight of him. But she wasn't sure about this morning, because she could smell his scent, very clearly.
It was almost as if he'd been in the room, and her suspicion was confirmed when her gaze fell on his coat that was tossed on the sofa.
If he had been in here, where was he then?
Eve settled her feet on the floor and got up from the bed. She looked into the bathroom, but there was no trace of him.
"Malakai?"
She left the room.
One of the maids who was cleaning around the hallway paused and deeply bowed at her. "Good morning, madam."
Eve nodded, asking, "Have you seen my husband?"
