Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Blowing Off Steam

Night fell, and Wakizashi's perfect opportune time came quickly. Dressed in her twilight outfit, she took a while to listen to the radio in her ears, only to find out tonight would be when Tanaka and a few others would take out a drug cartel ring. Slightly worried for the only officer who accepted her help's safety, she headed out to the designated area quickly.

Arriving at the destination, Wakizashi soon located Tanaka. He was in a car right on the side of the street, with another officer who sat beside him. The vehicle was a van, and she suspected the back was filled with electronics to communicate between groups. She walked up to the driver's side, knocking on the window with one knuckle – she saw Tanaka flinch, then stop when he saw her. Narrowing his eyebrows, he rolled down the window.

"How did you know?" He asked.

"Psychic," She said as usual. "What is the plan?"

Tanaka looked at his friend in the passenger seat, then told them to wait as he rolled up the window and stepped out of the car. Shutting the door behind him, he shivered in the night, wrapping his coat further around him. Wakizashi didn't react to the cold, used to the soft chills by then – besides, her outfit was warm enough. Tanaka looked around, then pointed over to a building across the long street.

"We are busting a drug ring run by the yakuza," Tanaka began. "They are over in that building. We are under the impression they have paid teenagers and grown ups alike to put together the packages. There might even be children in there. We will do our best to only arrest and not kill, unless fired upon, which we will still aim to injure instead."

Wakizashi crossed her arms as she listened, brushing her chin thoughtfully in silence. Then, she shook her head. "You have most of it right. Those kids are in there against their will. Most of them just want to go home right now. And… They already know you are here."

The police officer looked surprised. "How do you know that?"

"Because I took a look before I came over," She answered. "The workers are stuffed in a room, while the yakuza are wandering around with imported guns. You are not prepared to go in there. It will be a slaughter."

"Then we will call for backup," Tanaka said, pulling out his phone.

"It will be too late," Wakizashi explained. "They will push before they even show."

He paused. "Then we have to fall back."

"And start a high speed car chase?" She sighed. "Just wait here. I will return."

"Wait!" Tanaka said as she started walking. "You are only one person. They will kill you!"

"Doubtful," Wakizashi called over her shoulder, continuing on.

She walked across the street silently, straight towards the doors. Hearing Tanaka get back into his vehicle, she was just pleased he wouldn't be getting in the crossfires. She didn't try to kill people, and since the officer said their goal was to take them alive – injuries acceptable – she would do her best to not do so. It was understandable, they needed questions answered.

Wakizashi pulled free her two swords, flipping them around in a twirl before stopping in front of the doors. They still had their sheaths over the blades. She closed her eyes, focusing as she heard it. The person on the other side of the door, waiting for her to burst in. However, that was not what she did. Instead, she turned and walked over to the painted black window, and took a few paces back. After that, she took a running leap and dove straight through it.

The glass shattered around her, landing in shards on the ground as she rolled. Standing back up, the shots were fired immediately, giving her only moments to take in the surroundings. Long tables scattered around the warehouse, covered in bags and plastic and… some kind of powdered drug. She flipped the nearby table over, taking cover behind it as she grabbed a bottle and threw it at the man by the door. It thunked against his head and shattered on the ground, making him fall prone and unconscious.

Wakizashi's next target became clear, as she heard the approaching steps and thoughts of an individual heading for her flipped over table. Since the surface was metal, not many bullets pierced through, but she knew that she couldn't hide behind it forever. Stepping out exactly before he was about to peer over the table, she thwacked him on the head with her sheathed wakizashi. He groaned, then lifted his gun to fire, only to have her disarm him quickly. With him now defenceless, she crossed her swords at his throat, pushing him back as a bullet meant for her pierced his side.

She pushed him down, discarding him. Jumping on a table, she used it as a launch pad to hop off and slam her foot into another person's face. He laid flat on the ground, and she landed next to him, kicking his gun out of his reach. She threw her foot out for his face again, making him spew blood as she broke his nose. As he fell unconscious, she focused her attention on the two that approached her from either side.

One tried to punch Wakizashi, and she quickly deflected it as she hit him on either side of his head with the sheathed blades. Then, when the one behind her tried to grab her, she kicked out and landed a hit on his abdomen. He stumbled back, and she raised her foot up above the one before her and slammed it down on the back of his head. His face planted into the concrete, and she turned to the one who was coming at her again. She deflected his blows, positioning him between her and a couple other bullets. He cried out as she threw him to the ground, still alive – hopefully.

Three left. She started towards them, and they yelled at her to stop, but she didn't. More shots were fired, and she deflected them with her swords, knowing where they would land by their thoughts. Metres away, she started at a run before jumping in the air and slamming her blade into the side of his neck while the other slapped his gun out of his hand. She landed, then grabbed his collar while holding her sword with only her thumb and using it as an anchor to grasp him, throwing him into the one on the right.

Wakizashi looked over to the left, where the last one standing was struggling to reload his pistol. She started walking towards him, and he panicked, throwing his empty cartridge and gun at her. Ducking out of the way of them both, she came up to him and roundhouse kicked him to the ground. When he landed he was already out. She turned to walk away, only to unclick the sheath on her wakizashi and flip it off, throwing it at the one who stood back up behind her. He was out cold.

After retrieving her sheath and setting both swords back at her hip, she opened the door. Waving to Tanaka in the car, he seemed to say something to the person in the car beside him, then speak into the radio. He got out of the van, jogging over to Wakizashi and then stopping in front of her. Looking over her shoulder at the mess inside, his eyes widened.

"You didn't kill anyone, did you?" Tanaka breathed.

"Not on purpose," She answered. "But I don't think so. Shots were fired. I did what I had to do to not get killed myself."

He nodded in understanding, motioning to the officers who got out of the van, and then to another that drove up. Some gave her strange looks; they knew who she was, but they didn't arrest her for being a vigilante. She literally saved lives. If she hadn't shown up, Tanaka and the other officers would be dead. They knew that – all of them at least respected her enough to not get in a fight.

She watched as they arrested those inside, rescued the people stuck in the backroom, and put the two critically injured into the back of medical cars. Tanaka thanked her again, nodding in appreciation. Then, she left, not letting herself get questioned or talked to by the other officers. The only thing left of the fact she was ever even there was those who described a woman in black beating them senseless.
