Cherreads

Chapter 82 - Final Signature

We land easily enough. It doesn't take much for us to reach the same room as before. Those who knew about my actions cheer for me as I enter.

Odin motions to us. "Happy that the crowns are murderers?"

"Why would I be happy about that?" The king growls back. "They need to be given innocence."

Odin watches the king's anger with a level of indifference. "I was called in because Thomas already lost that innocence. Those memories haven't left him."

"I've forgotten a lot of things I did as a small child, but that event is still very clear." I tell them.

Mom's soft smile calms me. She'd give me a hug. I'm glad to not be crying. I hate when the images come forward. Why have I always tried to gain more skills, more knowledge, because of trauma. Trauma I shouldn't have. But only my parents were strong enough to truly guard me.

Odin places a hand on my shoulder to say I am to stay there in the middle of the room. "I have a contract you need to sign, Your Majesty." The king flinches as Odin shows off the allowance for them to date. But it needs to be publicly known that the king is allowing them. Odin brings the contract over to the queen and whispers something in her ear. She looks teased by it. Once the queen has the contract, Odin moves behind the king and queen. "Although, that's for when the king can't see." The queen spins to glare at him.

The wording was specific. I have no idea what the whisper actually was, but the suggestion will make it very clear what the contract is.

Mom looks at her husband a moment before signing the contract. "Couldn't handle the castle without Odin around?"

Father looks aside. "Yes."

"Thank you for agreeing."

"Your words were meaningless." The king waves at me. "Our son made me sign."

All eyes are on me. I take a step closer. To make sure Jessica isn't right next to me. "It was in the country's best interest. I thought divorce would suit best, but it seems none of you agree with me. Since you are together for the country more than anything, stop acting like it's romantic. I haven't even seen you kiss since I was a child. If you can't give me those memories in the now, then accept the romance is dead."

We're creating a scene. I really hope Odin is doing something. He moved behind the king and queen. He'll protect them. The queen mentioned that the king trusts Odin in certain ways. But everyone in the castle knows that Odin and Mom are true loves. They just haven't acted on it. Until right this moment. Although, this is a show for the public.

What are we hiding? I don't know who the problem is. I don't know where they'd be coming from.

"Romantic date night." Odin nods. "We can plan for that too." The queen stares at him. Something is under her watch, but I can't say what.

"Don't tell me about it." The king's hands fists as he faces Odin. His back to the room. A test? Now I'm using Odin's wording. "I will crash your date."

"We'll keep it a secret, Your Majesty." Odin taps his lips. Mom shivers at the little action.

Why did Mom refuse to divorce if she wants Odin this badly? She was picking my father no matter what she would lose in the end.

The arrow that comes for me is quicker than it should be. Must include speed magic. Jessica though has been using defense magic. Her hands lift while stepping closer to me. The arrow hits me and drops to the ground.

"Oh. I'm sorry. You thought my contract was because of her house. No. She's my defense." I smirk in the direction of the arrow. "We have treason in the house."

The murmurs go about. I'm catching words, but not grasping their meaning.

"Bring the attempted murderer forward, please." The king motions for action. It's a knight. A white knight? They are pushed to the ground. The one in control is Raida. "Yes, Raida?"

"The arrow came from their bow, Your Majesty."

"And?"

"Supposedly they didn't shoot it nor would they attack the one they wish to pledge to."

I grin at them. Being forced to stand forward everywhere had an affect. The white knights are seeking to be my subordinates. The blues don't know enough. The problem is in the red knights. Or somewhere in the houses and ministry. This is a noble problem. "Father, the arrow had speed magic. It didn't need to be shot to reach me if a mage was involved."

Raida nods to me. She knew that. "I was unable to tag the magic. I was only able to mark which owner the arrow belonged to."

I pick up the arrow and bring it to Odin. "Go ahead."

"I wish I could show Ingrid this move." Odin takes the arrow. It glows for a second. "Give me permission for my full magics, Your Majesty."

The king sighs. "You have my full allowance for whatever you wish, Lord Odin."

Odin grins. "Go back to your position, Thomas."

I follow the request. Standing just in front of Jessica makes us clear we're defending each other. I don't trust this mage. I can't help myself but being on guard of my friend.

Odin's magic has the arrow hover before him. Then it glows a bright green. A line shoots of green magic that connects to the mage in question. "Walk forward. You will not like it's drag abilities."

I hear the attempt of running away then a thud of them falling over. People step aside to show off a mage trying to crawl away while the green magic pulls them to the arrow. They weren't the main culprit. I can tell. They don't have the position or means to pull off a queen's assassination. Who exactly are they?

"Nani!" Priscilla steps into the center behind me. "Why did you? How could you?" She's crying.

There's an apology of sorts from the dragged mage. I'm not exactly sure what he's apologizing for.

"Can Lord and Lady Telligence please come forward?" Father calls out. Murmurs in the crowd have me shivering.

Jessica reaches for Priscilla's hand. She cries in my friend's arms. I don't know if they knew each other before, but I'm certain that's a safe place. Unless Priscilla is also a traitor. Is Jessica giving her a chance to attack now? To see? I'll complain later. I need to focus right now.
