Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Strength of the System

"That's why, kids, it's important to pay special attention when concentrating chakra for a Jutsu; normally, you wouldn't have any problems with the level of training you're doing."

"But the moment you leave the academy and get your own squad, you'll have more advanced chakra training, and a single mistake in controlling your own chakra could cost you your life." Iruka addressed the whole class, noticing how they were truly paying attention to him.

It was one of those classes where he briefly spoke from his personal experience in the field as an example, of the realities they had to face, the sacrifices they made along the way, and the slightly embellished adventures he had with his squad.

Kiba snorted, looking around the class. He didn't really have anything against Iruka; he just already knew the entire academy curriculum, and he was sure most of his classmates from different clans knew it too. Shinobi experience was forged in combat; he knew that better than many of his peers after enduring his mother's hellish training.

Now, the most important thing for him at this moment was his system. A few days had passed since he got it, and he had fully confirmed it wasn't something fake.

And although he was somewhat skeptical about the character card, since he found out he could use it as a summon, he wasn't disappointed at all. In fact, after that, he used the card on himself, as summoning it was a waste of potential. He noticed an instant difference in strength increase, not just in his stats but in his body.

And that was with only 20% of the character card unlocked.

'Status.'

Host Status:

Strength: F+ ---> D

Agility: F+ ---> D+

Luck: C ---> C

Stamina: F+ ---> D+

Chakra: F+ [Elite Genin] ---> D+ [Elite Chunin]

Chakra Resistance: D- ---> D-

Charisma: D- ---> D+

Spirit: F+ ---> D+

His stats weren't the only things that changed. After equipping the card, he had to adapt to the new strength and speed to avoid hitting the door or breaking things in the room. It only took him a few minutes, long minutes. Some of his treasures were sacrificed in the process. Oh, how he was going to miss his last-edition silver wolf doll.

Speaking of wolves, his pup, Akamaru, was still at home, training with his mother's dogs. Kiba wondered how long Akamaru's special training would take.

Perhaps? he wondered, would there be ways to make Akamaru stronger through the system? He'd have to see later.

At this moment, something even more important was happening.

A mission. Kiba was more than happy to see one, and especially such a simple one. He didn't think there would be many difficulties for a task like this.

Reconnaissance Mission: Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most mysterious kids in class. Not only does he seem to have strange connections with those at the top, but many seem to hate him for no apparent reason.

Your task is to try to gather as much information as possible about Uzumaki Naruto, without being discovered in the process. The task will be considered complete when you answer one of two questions: Who are Naruto's parents? or, Why does Naruto seem to be hated by civilians and Ninjas?

Consequences for being discovered in the process: Investigation by the intelligence and torture control team, and possible death at the hands of the village on suspicion of espionage.

A shiver ran down Kiba's spine. Investigation, torture... Death! He had grown up in a shinobi clan; he wasn't a stranger to death, but the idea that Konoha, his own village, would be the source of that danger... just for investigating a classmate. Things were much more twisted than he thought. He had some suspicions that Naruto might be someone important; the clues were always there: the Hokage visiting him, the Ninjas who seemed to look at him cautiously, his suspiciously fake stupidity...

Well, the stupidity might not be entirely fake, but Naruto was full of unknowns. It never crossed his mind to actually investigate it. Sure, at some point he asked his mother about the strange kid, but she didn't say much more than 'You'll know when you're a Ninja,' or 'Be careful with the kid.' He didn't give much importance to those things.

Until now. He'd have to find a way to uncover it, and if the system's words were a clue, then Naruto somehow involved the village's security, or something much worse, an invader.

Kiba didn't want to continue down that line of thought. Sure, the blond was noisy; he always shouted about his dreams and all that crap, but Kiba had grown somewhat fond of him. He admired how he never gave up when he lost in sparring, or how even when the kid arrived at the academy hungry and sleepy, he never backed down from physical training.

That didn't mean he wasn't going to try to figure it out somehow. Kiba looked towards the noisiest blond in the room. He hadn't accepted the mission yet; he had some doubts he needed to resolve.

'System, if I choose to proceed with the mission, will it be the only one I can do, or can I do several simultaneously?' This was the question he needed to ask. If he could do more than one mission, he wouldn't hesitate to accept. He had already asked the system before, and it had confirmed he could cancel ongoing missions, but he couldn't rule out a seemingly easier mission coming up.

Missions can accumulate up to a total of 5 simultaneous missions.

Ugh, that makes it easier. Kiba looked at the screen in front of him before accepting the mission.

The class at the academy had finished a few hours ago. All the students were in their homes or on training grounds, many of them anxious for the graduation exam that was getting closer and closer, only one month until the future Genin graduated.

On one of the academy's training grounds, Naruto Uzumaki was practicing his basic Jutsu.

"Damn it! Transformation Jutsu, PERFECT! Substitution Jutsu, PERFECT! Then why the hell can't I make a single clone?" Naruto looked at his clone Jutsu; it had one eye bigger than the other, it was pale, taller than him, and had a smile on only half its face.

"Could it be...? No! I'm Uzumaki Naruto! A single clone can't beat me!" Naruto jumped up excitedly, running laps around the small academy training ground.

From a room full of books in the academy, while reading a shinobi history book, a boy with loose brown hair, red fang marks on the sides of his face, strange black eyes with a slight linear shape, glanced briefly out the window. He had a look of deep thought while jotting notes in a small notebook, nothing in a real language, just shapes that he understood.

Kiba glanced briefly out the window again, as if watching the clouds in the sky, on the verge of reaching enlightenment, a penetrating gaze that could charm anyone. But of course, there was really no one studying at that hour of the day; most academy students would be practicing their three basic Jutsu instead of studying ninja theory.

Although he wasn't studying either, or watching clouds, or reaching enlightenment, he was simply watching the blond kid training, while writing letters and ideograms on a paper that only he was capable of understanding, a temporary language just so no one would decipher what he was investigating in case his notes were found.

'Naruto Uzumaki, less strange by the moment.' Kiba was enthusiastic; he thought it would be more complicated, but he was sure he was close, not so close as to say the mission was already complete, but he had his suspicions.

The kid has almost abnormal stamina, just by normal standards. He already knew that.

One would really think the kid was too weird if they didn't know about his clan. It wasn't very difficult for Kiba to find information about that; his mother shared what little she knew about the clan, and the library books filled in the rest.

Uzumaki, an extinct clan, or so the damn books full of misinformation say. Entirely red-haired Ninjas, with large chakra reserves, abnormally high stamina, a great talent for Fuinjutsu, even to the point that it was one of the justifications other villages had for destroying them.

Kiba didn't really believe that Fuinjutsu was that strong. Sure, it was used in many strategic ways: summoning scrolls, for chakra restriction, or even sealing beings or objects inside others. Kiba became enthusiastic when he thought about that. Important point he'd have to investigate more.

Anyway, they were good skills, but nothing that would take you to the very top. He didn't know anyone who stood out solely because of Fuinjutsu.

At first, he thought Naruto might not be part of that impressive clan, but, he had the strength, the chakra, the stamina, he had incredible potential, everything the supposed Uzumaki had.

Now, if Naruto was part of the Uzumaki clan... Why the hell didn't he have a home in the Uzumaki lands? Shit! He could even stay in what was left of the Senju compound. According to his research, the red-haired kids had a close relationship with the Senju, to the point that the First Hokage's wife was Uzumaki.

Could Naruto be a bastard of the Uzumaki clan? An exile?

It makes no damn sense. Who the hell would exile the last descendant of the damn clan? Especially a clan with so much potential as the Uzumaki. The rival villages had destroyed the Uzumaki precisely because of their strength. And Konoha would allow itself to exile the last one? It didn't add up.

It's something more, something deeper, more... Dangerous even. Kiba stared at his notebook full of written things that only he understood; there were connections, he saw them. Naruto, the last descendant of the Uzumaki clan, hated by the village and despised by the Ninjas. The only thing that could justify such treatment was...

If you were dangerous... Dangerous enough to represent a threat to your allies, but controllable enough to direct that threat towards enemies.

Tailed beasts, huh...

I don't have much information available about them, probably classified information, or even taboo considering there are nine of them running around the five major villages.
