Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Daimyô's Suspicions

The sudden explosion had shaken the estate, sending a shockwave through the air.

The flames erupted in the garden, lighting up the night like a beacon. Within moments, samurai and shinobi stationed across the estate sprang into action, rushing toward the source of the disturbance.

"Water Release: Water Formation Wall!" A shinobi called out as he weaved hand seals, summoning a torrent of water to quench the fire. Several other shinobi followed suit, dousing the remaining flames until only smoldering embers remained. The air was thick with smoke, but the immediate threat had been neutralized.

As the fire settled, the samurai and shinobi finally spotted their young lord. Perched casually on the top of the wall surrounding the garden, Kenta Madoka swung his legs idly, gazing at the explosion site with an amused expression. His black eyes gleamed in the fire's dying light, looking more entertained than shaken.

"Young Lord, are you alright?" one of the samurai finally asked after climbing up the wall, his voice laced with concern. He immediately took Kenta to solid ground.

Before Kenta could respond, a more frantic presence stormed into the garden. The Daimyo, his mother Shizuka, and his elder brother Ikkyû arrived in a hurry.

Shizuka immediately ran to Kenta, grabbing his shoulders and looking him over for any wounds. Seeing he was unscathed, she pulled him into a tight hug, squeezing him with a force that betrayed her noble grace.

"Mother… c-can't breathe!" Kenta wheezed, his arms flailing.

"You could have died, Kenta!" Shizuka's voice cracked with emotion as she held him tighter.

Ikkyû crossed his arms and smirked. "Looks like Kenta is getting spoiled."

Kenta shot him a glare. "I'd like to see you survive an assassination attempt and get squished like this."

That got wide eyes from everyone and Kenta realised his mistake. Well in his favour, it was his stupid mouth that killed him in his previous life. Now he would have to answer several questions.

'Ugh, Now how do I tell people that I survived an assassination attempt. Hmm, I can say that the assassin got scared of my cuteness and decided to explode himself. Who am I kidding, only mom would accept that explaination at face value.' Kenta thought

The others realised that this was not the place to question the young lord. It was to find the culprit before he escapes.

The Daimyo was not amused. His face darkened with rage as he turned toward the head samurai and the shinobi in his employ. His normally calm demeanor vanished, replaced by the full force of his fury.

"How in the world did an assassin get into my estate?" he demanded, his voice booming through the now silent garden. "I pay you all to protect my family, and yet an enemy shinobi waltzes in and attacks my grandson? Explain yourselves!"

The head samurai and the shinobi knelt before him, heads lowered in shame.

"We… we do not know, my lord," the head samurai admitted. "We will investigate immediately."

The Daimyo's glare intensified. "See that you do. If this is a failure of security, I will personally see heads roll."

The guards scattered into high alert, searching for any further threats. Meanwhile, the head samurai and a small team began inspecting the area, looking for any clues as to how the assassin had entered. The estate was placed on lockdown, and every noble, servant, and guard was questioned.

A few hours later, inside the Daimyo's office, the head samurai stood before his lord with a grim expression.

"We have identified the culprit, my lord."

The Daimyo leaned forward in his chair, his fingers pressed together. "Speak."

The head samurai took a deep breath. "The assassin was a Chūnin from an unaffiliated village. He infiltrated the estate by posing as a servant under one of the nobles."

The Daimyo's eyes narrowed. "Which noble?"

"A minor noble, my lord. He took in the assassin as a replacement after his previous servant died in an accident."

"An accident?" the Daimyo repeated.

The head samurai nodded. "We believe the so-called accident was staged by the assassin to replace the original servant."

The Daimyo exhaled sharply, his expression unreadable. "And who paid him?"

The samurai hesitated. "That… we do not know. The assassin had no identifying markings or evidence on his person. Whoever ordered the hit was careful."

The Daimyo clenched his fists. "Find out. I don't care how long it takes."

The head samurai bowed. "Yes, my lord."

There was a pause before the head samurai hesitated once more.

The Daimyo noticed. "What is it?"

"My lord," the samurai started cautiously, "our sensor shinobi detected chakra usage at the moment of the explosion."

The Daimyo's gaze sharpened. "From the assassin?"

The samurai shook his head. "No… from the young lord."

The room fell into silence.

The Daimyo's fingers tightened around the armrest of his chair. "Are you saying that my grandson used a jutsu?"

"It is likely, my lord," the samurai admitted. "The assassin was found dead, and none of our men had engaged him. That, combined with the chakra signature, suggests the young lord may have done something."

The Daimyo leaned back, his expression unreadable. He tapped his fingers against the desk, deep in thought. His grandson, a mere child, had potentially killed a trained Chūnin-level shinobi. How?

"I see," the Daimyo finally said. His mind whirred with possibilities. Was Kenta truly so talented? Or was something else at play?

"Tell me, has anyone taught Kenta on how to use a jutsu? Has anyone taught him any jutsu?"

"No my lord, the only things that he has been taught with chakra are chakra control and his sensory ability."

The Daimyô hummed and asked another question "Tell me, has Kenta learned chakra control to the level of walking on walls?"

"No,my lor....." The head Samurai's words widened as realisation struck him.

"So you get it now. How did Kenta end up on top of the wall? Was it someone else that protected him from the explosion and dropped him in a safe area or was it something else?" The Daimyô asked thoughtfully before he continued,

"And why did the assassin decide to explode in the garden? He could have just suicide bombed inside the banquet hall for more damage. Anyways, Continue investigating the culprit behind the attempt as well as their purpose for targeting my youngest grandson and not the older one." Daimyô ordered

The head samurai bowed and left.

The Daimyô had much to think and more importantly he would have to watch his youngest grandson very closely from now on.

'Kenta has always been a clever boy and too smart for his age. Troublesome kid' The Daimyô sighed
