Chapter 6 - C06 - A Profitable Trip

It was early afternoon. With the finishing touch, Luke Jaywalker completed his tenth Energy Card.

With this, he was ready to sell them.

Stretching his legs, he walked outside his temporary room.

His mother was sitting on the couch. "Where's Leiva?" He asked.

"She's visiting the man in charge of the city's various landing structures. Why, you want to do something with her?"

Luke smiled. "Why wouldn't I?" He sat down and wrapped and arm around her. "She's my sister. It's a shame she's busy, though. Would you like to go shopping with me instead?"

Mia Jaywalker smiled at her filial son. "I'll get my bag."

A short hop and a skip later, the two were walking down a strip in the commercial sector. "I'd like to stop by a card shop if we get the chance." Luke mentioned casually.

"Sure. Is there anywhere else you want to stop?"

"I could do with a snack, or some dessert."

"We might be able to manage that."

The two stopped at an antique shop. While Mia looked at all of the old furniture, Luke turned towards the miscellaneous ifems section. Poking around, he found a old, dust-covered cane.

Adding an old top hat, he walked over to Mia, spun around, and bowed, eliciting a small laugh from his mother.

He smiled. Setting the top hat down, he tapped the cane against the ground.

Something shifted. Checking that the old man at the counter wasn't looking, he examined the cane itself.

The cane head was shaped to resemble a space whale, and matching patterns of deep blue covered the rest.

It was made of a special alloy; of which, he wasn't certain. It was light as a feather. The owner had probably mistaken it for painted wood.

The cane was definitely dirty, and showed clear signs of misuse- there was grease abundant.

But for all that, he couldn't find a single scratch.

Luke took it up to the counter. "I'm thinking about cleaning this up and giving it to my grandfather as a gift as it seems light enough for him to carry and use around the house."

"He probably won't want it due to the color scheme, but it's lighter than what he's already using."

"How much do you want for it?"

The shop owner pursed his lips. "Tell you what. I'll sell it to you for 10 intergalactic federation (IGF) coins. Deal?"

"Deal." Luke shook his hand and wired him the coins with his holowatch.

"Mother, would you like to buy anything?" He turned."

"No, no, I think I'm good here."

"Okay then. Next shop?"

"Sure."

Turning, they left.

Luke thought of fiddling with the cane, but he decided against it. In case he pulled out something cool, it was better to do it in private.

He held it lightly as they continued previewing the various shops. Mia bought several pieces of jewelry from various stores and a pair of shoes. She offered to spend a bit for Luke, and he happily accepted.

Along the way, he found a small red waistknife and an old Star Cards deck. Theoretically, he could examine the runes on the cards to create and sell his own star cards.

As for the waistknife, it looked cool. Also, it matched fairly well with his new cane.

Eventually they stumbled on a card shop. Luke sold his ten energy cards for 30 IGF coins each. With a total sum of 300 coins, he bought 30 blank cards at 10 coins each.

Fresh out of money, he walked back out. "Done already?" His mom asked in jest.

"Yep." Luke replied stoically.

The two continued meandering through the commercial district until they stopped at a roadside stall.

A vendor was making frozen yogurt.

The two sat down and began to enjoy the sweet, creamy, sour apple-flavored treats.

As they ate, the two conversed over Luke's new interest in cards, the upcoming graduation, Leiva's Military Contract, and more.

As the sun slowly began to set they walked back together towards the hotel. Taking in the sights of the green, moss-colored city, they looked to the sky and smiled.

Xilec was truly one of the most beautiful planets in the galaxy.
