Chapter 61 - 61

Chapter 61: The Voracious Munchlax? Pokémon Shorts—Sharing Joy and Sorrow! (Please Follow!)

"What's up?"

"It's about that Meowth with the Technician ability. I'm planning to send it to my niece, but I've been busy at the shop, so my wife's taking it there. She wanted to visit the countryside for a couple of days anyway. After I got injured by that little rascal, she's been juggling the shop and taking care of me day and night... Sigh, she's really had it tough."

"That makes sense…"

Ye Yinchuan muttered to himself. Awen sure was a chatterbox—and a bit too open.

Did he really need to share all this with someone he wasn't even that close to?

Unless his wife was a goddess, he really wasn't that interested!

"Honestly, I wasn't in a rush at first. But you know what? That original buyer suddenly found my shop again after watching your stream highlights. Now she's showing up multiple times a day, demanding her Pokémon back. I told her straight up—no way. She abandoned it here, and now that she knows it's a rare find, she wants it back?"

Ye Yinchuan nodded. Awen was absolutely right.

You can't let people like that get their way.

"So I told her it was already given away. She threw a huge tantrum in my shop and even threatened me, saying I'd regret it…"

Hearing this, Ye Yinchuan's brows furrowed.

"Seriously? What kind of person does that? Is she planning revenge? Even if you gave her the best Pokémon, she wouldn't raise it properly. Boss, you better stay on guard."

"Yeah, I have surveillance cameras around the shop. Anyway, I gotta go—I can't be away for too long."

When the topic of revenge came up, Awen looked a little uneasy.

Most people wouldn't go that far, but you never know.

"Come on, Heracross."

With a single call, Heracross obediently followed him.

After Awen left, Ye Yinchuan shook his head but didn't think too much of it.

That woman would probably give up once she realized Meowth was out of her reach.

Turning around, he saw Munchlax sitting on the floor, hugging a bag of Pokémon food while drooling.

It was sniffing the bag desperately, but holding back, just barely.

Seeing that Ye Yinchuan was finally done talking, Munchlax looked at him with pleading, puppy-like eyes.

"Ahh, I totally forgot about you, Munchlax. Alright, dig in."

With Ye Yinchuan's permission, Munchlax tore open the bag and started devouring the food, shoveling it in with both hands.

But this time, it had learned to chew a little.

Chewing just a bit enhanced the flavor, making the food taste even better.

Watching this, Ye Yinchuan suddenly had a thought—

Since Munchlax eats so much, does it swallow food whole just in case it encounters something bad-tasting?

Now that it was living comfortably, with no risk of starvation, it could take its time and enjoy the taste.

This realization made Ye Yinchuan feel a strange sense of pride and satisfaction.

Munchlax was safe, well-fed, and thriving in his care.

After Munchlax finished eating, Ye Yinchuan noticed something.

"Huh? Did your level go up?"

Munchlax's level had increased from 4 to 5.

Looking closer, he could see it was already visibly growing rounder.

Previously, due to malnutrition, even with all its fluff, it looked a little skinny.

But after just a few days of proper feeding, it was noticeably plumper.

"Damn, gaining weight at the speed of light!"

Ye Yinchuan grinned proudly.

Then he looked at the remaining Pokémon food—

And his smile froze.

"Wait… what?!"

Even after excluding what Munchlax had hidden away, the total food consumption had spiked.

About one-fifth more than usual was gone.

"Munchlax's food intake scales with its size and strength. That means… the bigger it gets, the more it eats…"

Ye Yinchuan felt a muscle in his face twitch.

He had expected this… but not so soon.

Way too fast!

"Munchlax, you little…"

Munchlax tilted its head, sensing that its trainer's smile seemed… off.

Ye Yinchuan sighed and rubbed his forehead with a bitter laugh.

Seriously, who would've thought this innocent-looking Pokémon could eat as much as a ten-year-old kid—

Weight-wise, of course!

Okay, bad analogy, but the point stands.

With Munchlax's dinner settled, Ye Yinchuan had to figure out his own meal.

"What? Today's not Crazy Thursday?!"

He had been craving fried chicken, only to realize he had missed the discount day.

"I'm not some rich kid who buys KFC on random days!"

"Forget it, I'll get some Chinese-style fried chicken instead. Ours is just as good."

After checking the prices, he saw that one set—with three wings and three drumsticks—cost nearly thirty yuan.

Not exactly cheap.

But compared to KFC prices, still a better deal.

It's not that KFC is unaffordable—Chinese fried chicken is just more cost-effective!

As he waited for his delivery, Ye Yinchuan lay on his bed and scrolled through Douyin (TikTok-like app).

Even though he streamed twice a day, he needed some entertainment.

And as a streamer, he had to stay updated on internet trends. Otherwise, he might fall behind.

"Haha, this one's hilarious! Munchlax, check it out—some guy found a Growlithe and thought it was lost, so he stood there waiting, filming a video to find its owner. But then, the actual owner popped up from behind a tree! Turns out, they were playing hide-and-seek, and the guy just accidentally got involved! Hahaha!"

Ye Yinchuan burst into laughter, holding his phone.

Though Douyin was addictive, it definitely provided some good laughs.

"Munchlax?"

Munchlax didn't understand what was so funny.

It simply tilted its head in confusion.

But seeing its trainer so happy, Munchlax's own smile widened.

Then Ye Yinchuan stumbled upon another video—

And this time, he felt his heart sink.

It was a compilation about a Rockruff and its trainer.

The owner had documented their journey together, adding playful narration.

Someone had taken those clips and edited them into a heartfelt video—set to a gentle lullaby-like song.

At first, it showed their joyful moments together, from puppyhood to adulthood.

"Dogs love to hear doggy songs."

The owner rocked Rockruff in their arms, treating it like a baby.

"When it rains, Big Yellow goes home."

The dog always followed its owner, no matter the weather.

"Snow falls, snow falls, a little artist paints with its paws."

The owner let Rockruff leave paw prints in the snow, forming a trail of 'plum blossoms'.

"Remember, remember, home is just straight ahead."

Then—

The camera cut to a lonely cardboard box.

Rockruff had passed away from illness.

Ye Yinchuan clutched Munchlax tightly.

He could feel the pain of loss—and it hurt.

Munchlax didn't understand but hugged him back, warmly and firmly.

Through joy and sorrow, they stood together.
