Chapter 53 - 53

"Azu, keep the camera steady."

The unexpected appearance of Ekans had made Azu frantic, causing the camera to shake uncontrollably.

"Got it!"

Azu regained his composure.

The situation was already set in motion; jumping off the rooftop wouldn't change anything now.

He might as well follow the streamer's instructions properly.

As the camera stabilized, Ye Yinchuan carefully examined the Ekans.

It was evident that this one had only recently hatched. An adult Ekans could grow up to two meters long, whereas this one was barely over a meter.

Ekans had a serpentine body covered in purple scales. Its eyes, the ring around its neck, its underbelly, and the tip of its tail were all yellow.

The combination of purple and yellow created a strong visual impact. Coupled with its snake-like form, it naturally evoked a sense of danger.

Black stripes ran along its body, adding a layer of mystique.

Its eyes were particularly striking—elliptical with a vertical slit for a pupil, resembling a thin line.

Ekans had a large mouth, capable of unhinging its jaws to swallow prey whole!

A closer look revealed that it had no visible fangs or forked tongue. Instead, its tongue was broad and could flicker to detect prey and sense surrounding threats.

Its tail was similar to a rattlesnake's, capable of producing sound to attract prey or scare off enemies.

At this moment, Ekans had noticed Azu.

Its golden eyes locked onto him, cold and emotionless.

[Who in their right mind keeps an Ekans as a pet?]

[It scared my Pidgey! Pay for the damages!]

[This one isn't even fully grown yet—imagine how terrifying it will be as an adult!]

"Streamer, is this thing venomous? How many eggs does it eat at once?"

Azu's voice wavered as he nervously rubbed his bald head.

If it had just hatched, there was a chance it would imprint on the first creature it saw as its parent.

But this one had clearly been out of its egg for some time and had already hunted.

Its predatory instincts had likely been awakened, making it unpredictable and potentially dangerous.

[Oh no! Azu, run! If it thinks your head is an egg, you're done for!]

[Ekans is a Poison-type Pokémon!]

[It's flicking its tongue and rattling its tail—it's preparing to hunt!]

"Where's your Pokémon? Have it protect you."

For safety's sake, Ye Yinchuan gave a reminder.

"My Rattata… will it work?"

Azu wore an expression of despair.

"Never mind then. No need to offer it a free meal."

Ye Yinchuan was speechless.

[LOL, a big bald guy keeping a Rattata?]

[Rattata: You want me to fight an Ekans? Are you serious?]

Everyone knew that in the wild, Rattata was one of Ekans' preferred meals—it was a natural predator-prey relationship.

Azu was clearly not a professional trainer.

He only kept Rattata as a companion for his job as a taxi driver.

"Slowly back away and close the door. Don't rush."

Meanwhile, Ye Yinchuan was checking Ekans' stats.

[Snake Pokémon: Ekans]

[Level: 3]

[Type: Poison]

[Gender: Male]

[Base Stats: D Rank (288)]

[IVs: B Rank (103)]

[Ability: Shed Skin]

[Nature: Careful]

[Moves: Wrap, Leer, Bite]

[Status: Full, Alert]

[Evolution Path: Ekans → Arbok]

[Traits: None]

"So, Ekans' base stats aren't that great—lower than the starter Pokémon. Is Ekans just weak, or are the starters just overpowered?"

Though Ye Yinchuan knew that stats weren't everything, he still muttered to himself.

Base stats only represented the general potential of a Pokémon species.

A Pokémon's strength depended on multiple factors.

For example, in the games, some Pokémon had high base stats but poor stat distribution, making them ineffective in battle.

Even though Ye Yinchuan had been a Pokémon fan before transmigrating, he couldn't remember every single detail.

But his understanding was correct.

Even in the games, while Ekans had a lower base stat total than Charmander, its Attack stat was actually higher—Charmander had 52, while Ekans had 60!

"Azu, don't worry. This Ekans likely hasn't learned any Poison-type moves yet. Plus, it's already full."

After confirming its stats, Ye Yinchuan reassured him.

"Put on a thick coat, grab a long stick, and guide it into a containment box. If you're too scared, call the Pokémon Center for professional help."

"Hold on, let me think."

Azu sat down, still shaken.

Good thing he had discovered the Ekans in time—otherwise, more eggs would have been eaten.

Or worse, if it had learned Poison-type moves and bitten him without warning, it could have been disastrous.

Although the apartment complex had antidotes available…

Just because fire extinguishers exist doesn't mean people aren't afraid of fires.

[Azu, newly hatched Ekans grow quickly. Their stomach acid dissolves eggshells fast, so digestion is rapid.]

[As long as it's not venomous, you're safe—just don't let it coil around your neck.]

[Leave it to the professionals!]

A while later, Azu glanced at the Ekans on his balcony.

The two bulging egg shapes in its stomach had already begun to shrink.

Clearly, the eggshells had fully dissolved.

"Screw it! Why should I be scared? I'll show this Ekans what a terrifying upright ape really is!"

[He's fired up!]

[Historical footage of the bald guy taming an Ekans.]

[I'm about to do a sliding tackle…]

[I knew this stream would be entertaining…]

As Azu made up his mind, the chat erupted with cheers.

Viewers loved watching chaos unfold.

[Good job! Stay strong! Don't embarrass yourself!]

Seeing the chat, Ye Yinchuan chuckled.

Good grief—was this the classic internet "fuel the fire" strategy?

"Protect your neck and don't overdo it. I told you to use a stick to avoid getting constricted."

As a responsible streamer, Ye Yinchuan didn't want any liabilities.

"Be careful of its Leer—don't look it in the eyes."

"Watch out for Wrap! Let it coil around the stick!"

Under Ye Yinchuan's guidance, Azu finally captured the Ekans and secured it in a containment box.

He even placed a heavy object on top to prevent an escape.

Since the free incubators that came with the eggs were low-quality, even slightly aggressive Pokémon could break out of them.

[666! The terrifying upright ape prevails! Bonus points for being bald—it boosts combat power!]

[Great strategy! I now dub the streamer the Pokémon world's Wang Yuyan!]

"Let's welcome our next treasure appraiser!"
