The morning after the battle dawned bright and clear, a stark contrast to the events that had transpired under the night sky. The village of Syrup was calm again, its peaceful rhythm returning to the streets. The villagers emerged cautiously from their homes, many of them still unsure of what had happened—of what had been uncovered. But a quiet sense of relief washed over them, knowing the threat had been dealt with.
Luffy sat on a barrel by the edge of the village square, his feet propped up casually as he munched on a piece of bread. His expression was relaxed, carefree as ever, but the gleam in his eyes betrayed the satisfaction of victory. The battle had been tough, but they had come out on top, just like always.
Zoro leaned against the nearby wall of a building, his arms crossed over his chest, eyes scanning the village. He wasn't one for celebrations, but there was a sense of quiet pride in his posture. They had completed the mission, and now there was nothing left to do but move forward.
Usopp walked nervously up to Kaya, who stood near her mansion, the place that had once been filled with deception. Her body was still weak, but there was a light in her eyes that hadn't been there the day before. She was safe now, free from the man who had manipulated her life for so long.
"I can't thank you enough, Usopp," Kaya said softly, her voice steady but filled with emotion. "If you hadn't been there... I don't know what would've happened."
Usopp waved his hand dismissively, trying to act nonchalant but clearly flustered. "Aw, come on! I told you—no one messes with me! You're safe now, that's what matters, right?" He scratched his head, grinning awkwardly. "Plus, who else would've saved you from a big, bad butler?"
Kaya laughed softly, a sound that felt like a rebirth for her. The weight on her shoulders had lifted, and for the first time in a long while, she felt like she could breathe again.
Nami stood slightly off to the side, watching the exchange between Usopp and Kaya with a small smile. She hadn't said much, but her expression spoke volumes. For all the cynicism she wore, Nami was relieved as well. They had done good here, and they could leave Syrup Village knowing they had protected those who needed it most.
As they stood together, a man with round glasses and a suit approached them. It was Merry, Kaya's loyal servant and shipwright. He adjusted his glasses nervously before speaking.
"Miss Kaya has something for you all," he said, clearing his throat. "A gift, in gratitude for what you've done."
Luffy tilted his head. "A gift?"
Merry nodded and motioned for them to follow. As they walked toward the shore, a large white sheet billowed in the breeze, covering something beneath it. With a swift tug, Merry pulled it away, revealing a beautifully crafted ship. Its wooden frame gleamed under the sunlight, the elegant sheep figurehead carved masterfully at the front.
"This… is the ship I designed for Miss Kaya," Merry introduced with a small smile, pushing up his glasses. "But given the circumstances, she insisted you should have it."
Kaya stepped forward, looking at the ship with fondness before turning back to Luffy and his crew. "You've saved me. You've saved this village. I can't think of a better way to thank you than by giving you this ship. You need a reliable vessel for your journey, and I want you to have it."
Luffy's face lit up in excitement. "A ship?! For real?!" He immediately jumped onto the deck, running around as he inspected every inch of it. "This is awesome!"
Zoro whistled, clearly impressed. "Looks sturdy. Should hold up well in battle."
Nami ran her fingers along the polished wood, calculating its worth in her head. "This… is actually really valuable."
Usopp, on the other hand, stood frozen, his mouth slightly open. His eyes sparkled with emotion as he stared at the ship. "This… this is a real pirate ship," he whispered.
After a moment, Luffy turned back toward the others and grinned. "We need to name it!"
Usopp instantly puffed out his chest. "How about The Great Usopp? Sounds like a legendary ship, right?"
Nami groaned, shaking her head. "Absolutely not."
Zoro smirked. "As long as it floats and holds up in a fight, I don't care what it's called."
Luffy scratched his head, looking at the ship thoughtfully. "Hmm… something cool. Something that sounds like adventure."
Kaya smiled softly and stepped forward. "How about Going Merry?"
Everyone turned to her, and she continued, "Merry designed this ship with so much care, and 'Going' represents moving forward—toward your dreams, toward adventure. I think it fits."
Luffy's face lit up. "Going Merry… I like it!"
Nami nodded. "Yeah, it's got a nice ring to it."
Usopp crossed his arms, pretending to think about it. "Hmm… I guess it's acceptable."
Luffy punched the air excitedly. "Alright! From now on, our ship is Going Merry!"
Kaya chuckled, though her eyes shimmered with unshed tears. "I'll miss you, Usopp."
Usopp felt a lump in his throat but forced a smile. "Don't worry! I'll come back one day—with stories so crazy you won't believe half of them!"
Kaya nodded, reaching into her pocket and pulling out a small bag of medicine. "Take this with you. Just in case. I know you'll find yourself in trouble more often than not."
Usopp took it, holding it close. "Thanks, Kaya."
Luffy stretched his arms behind his head, his grin ever-present. "Alright, enough with the mushy stuff. We've got bigger things to do, right? Time to set sail!"
As the crew boarded the Going Merry, Kaya and the villagers stood by the shore, waving. The ship's sails caught the wind, and slowly, it began to move forward, away from Syrup Village.
Kaya wiped a tear away as she watched them disappear into the horizon. "Goodbye… and thank you."
Luffy stood at the helm, looking ahead with a determined smile. The Going Merry was theirs now, and their adventure had only just begun.
