"We'll see, Casian," Carlo smirked before excusing himself.
His mere presence was enough to stir Casian's emotions, but in a way, he was grateful. At least now, he had seen the truth with his own eyes.
As the celebration came to an end, guests slowly began to leave the venue. Lyra excused herself to the chamber with Penny, while Casian made his way to the meeting hall.
Lyra, however, couldn't shake the conversation with Casian's uncle. His words lingered in her mind, unsettling her.
"Are royals allowed to have mistresses even after marriage?" Lyra asked suddenly, writing down in the book, her curious eyes darting to Penny.
The maid hesitated before nodding.
"Does that mean the king has one too?" she pressed.
Penny shook her head. "No matter what rumors circulate, I've never come across any truth about the king having a mistress."
"Then why would Casian's uncle say that—"
"Because he was born from one," Penny interrupted.
