Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Final Exams

Early in the morning, at exactly five o'clock, his alarm rang. He woke up and began preparing his food and uniform.

Since it was Monday and he had classes to attend, feeling the day felt particularly important.

After having his breakfast, which was rice with a boiled egg his favorite, he took a bath and left for school early.

Upon arriving at his school, he was the first to enter the classroom, so he decided to pass the time by playing Mobile Legends.

When he saw the first classmate arrive, a female student, he waved and greeted her with a good morning.

She greeted him back as he continued playing his game. By seven o'clock, the classroom was filled with students.

Sitting beside him was Mark, his best friend, who had arrived a bit earlier.

As expected, the two of them queued up a match together on Mobile Legends. Mark locked in his usual pick, the sturdy tank hero Tigreal, while he without hesitation selected Fanny, the assassin known for her insane mobility and mechanical skill.

The match was intense, but his screen told a clear story: 21 kills, 0 deaths, 6 assists.

It wasn't just luck. Since he knew how to fly, as he literally sliced through the enemy team with surgical precision.

But the truth was, he was only good at Fanny. Because that's the only hero he ever practiced.

He chose her not just for the style, but for the challenge. Fanny wasn't a pick for casual players.

Her kit required precise timing, perfect map awareness, and near-constant energy management. One wrong cable, and you could fall straight into the enemy's hands.

In the official Mobile Legends hero difficulty chart, Fanny is ranked as one of the most difficult heroes to master, often labeled with a 100/100 mastery ceiling by experienced players in the community.

According to pro players and tier list analysts like Elgin and Hororo Chan, Fanny's learning curve is among the steepest, notoriously hard for beginners, but devastating in the hands of a skilled player.

That's why he stuck with her, since he wants to belong in those people who are called fast hands.

After winning the game, the two of them stopped and began talking about recent events in their lives, including what had happened the day before.

All of a sudden, a teacher entered the room. She was a woman with a chubby figure and short height.

She was not unattractive; in fact, she had a gentle appearance.

"Good morning, teacher," they all greeted in unison as they stood up.

Olivia Mendoza, their homeroom teacher, nodded with a smile.

"Alright, sit down," she said, and the class quietly returned to their seats.

She then walked to the center of the board, looked at the class, and spoke.

"Today, the finalization of your upcoming final exam will begin on April 8 to 9. That is two weeks from now, and I want you to prepare yourselves."

"For today, I am going to give you the pointers on what topics will appear in the final exams for Reading and Writing."

Olivia then explained what the students should focus on.

Jeff, like the others, wrote the pointers down carefully. Olivia made sure to explain everything clearly so that everyone could understand and no one would be left behind.

Once she was finished, the class ended, and the next teacher arrived. After a few greetings, the new teacher also gave them some pointers for the upcoming exams.

When afternoon came, the class atmosphere felt a bit heavy, as the reality of studying had returned.

Some students seemed serious and focused, while others appeared more relaxed, not taking the tests too seriously.

Like his friend Ryan, a one-of-a-kind naughty student with a bit of a fighting spirit.

He was a brave person, though sometimes a little annoying. Still, the good thing about him was that he was not a bully.

He was even playing a game called Call of Duty Mobile, shouting and cursing loudly, which everyone had already gotten used to.

Jeff and Mark ate their lunch, accompanied by two other people.

One of them was a guy with short hair, standing around 6'1 feet tall. He had a sturdy yet lean build and a somewhat handsome appearance.

"Hey, let's play Mobile Legends after this. I'm close to reaching Mythical Honor," he said to the group.

"Nah, I'll pass. I have to visit my girlfriend after this," the guy beside him replied as he continued eating his lunch.

He was somewhat tall as well, with a handsome appearance that resembled a typical Korean. His skin was fair, his nose tall, and he carried himself with natural charisma.

"What do you mean, Lester? Isn't there a saying: 'Pals before girlfriends, bros before love'? Why are you leaving us?" he asked, looking at Lester with a playful expression, as if feeling betrayed.

He just waved his hand and smiled.

"Pals and bros, my ass. Let's play next time. I'm going now. See you later, Andre, Jeff, Mark," he said to them, and Jeff simply nodded his head.

Andre, the tall guy, slammed his hand on the student desk chair in frustration.

"Hmph, let's forget about that traitor. Let's play trio to kill some time. Just remembering the look on his face makes me sick," Andre grumbled in anger.

Jeff and Mark looked at each other, feeling speechless, as Andre was clearly on a different level compared to Lester.

Jeff could clearly recall how this close friend of his changed girlfriends as easily as plucking leaves.

He saw him with a different girl almost every time, leaving him stunned and unsure if it was even real.

Just a few days ago, he had ended a relationship after only three days and started another one immediately.

Even when they wanted to have some time together as friends, he would choose to leave them just to spend time with some girls.

He just shook his head and nodded as they finished eating. Then Jeff, Mark, and Andre played a ranked match together.

After two games, Jeff earned MVP in both matches. They were about to start another when Lester returned, wearing a huge smile on his face.

"Oh, you're back, you traitor," Andre said to Lester.

Lester's brows twitched as he sighed, "Yeah, yeah, I'm the traitor. Let's get back to our seats. I just saw Mrs. Eve walking in the hallway," he replied.

The four of them separated, and two of them took their seats in the back row.

Then a female teacher then entered the room. Just from her appearance alone, she radiated a cold and commanding presence that immediately made every student sit up and behave.

Even Ryan, who was usually loud and playful, seemed intimidated by her. He avoided making any jokes that might trigger her anger.

"Good afternoon, class. For our final exams, I believe I've already told you what they're going to be, haven't I?" she said with a sharp, almost devilish look.

At that moment, the entire class fell into silence, a wave of nervous tension sweeping through them except for Jeff and a few other high-achieving students.

Noticing the fear on their faces, she continued speaking.

"Our final exam for the second semester, the Fourth Periodical Exam will be a researched study," her voice boomed, freezing the entire class as if they had been locked in an ice chamber.

Everyone fell silent, overwhelmed by the weight of her words, everyone except Jeff and the other high-achieving students remained calm and composed.
