"Love? You said love?" Agatha scoffed, raising an incredulous brow. "Please, tell me another joke."
"I'm serious, Miss Agatha," Josh replied, his voice dropping to a tone that made her heart stumble for reasons she wasn't ready to unpack. "At first, I thought it was something I could brush off, you know? A passing thing. But it's worse now… stronger."
Agatha tilted her head, a teasing glint in her eye. "Or maybe you just haven't gotten enough of her yet," she whispered with a sly smirk.
"No, that's not it." His voice cracked slightly, a man on the edge. "I love her. Look at me—I'm frustrated, I haven't worked properly in months. She's the only thing on my mind. It's driving me insane. I hate how much power she has over me, and I wish to God I could shut it off. But I can't."
