ROMAN'S POV
It was a new dawn.
The birds outside chirped in a melody that was far too cheerful for my liking, their songs carried by the soft morning breeze. A ray of golden sunlight streamed through the gaps in my curtains, hitting my face with an irritating brightness that made me groan.
I shifted uncomfortably, squeezing my eyes shut before slowly forcing them open, adjusting to the sudden intrusion of light.
What an irony.
Even nature seemed to be celebrating today as if the entire universe was rejoicing over what was to come—my coronation ceremony. A day that should have meant honor and triumph, yet felt more like a slow march toward my own execution.
The blaring sound of my phone snapped me out of my thoughts.
I groaned, rubbing my temples as I sluggishly reached for the device, barely concerned about whether the call would end before I answered it. As I swung my legs over the side of the bed, my foot hit something.
