Chapter 151 - Chapter 149: Reef Starfield, an Anticipated Ambush

In Reef Starfield, the [Baize] and Diva sailed silently, carefully avoiding meteors, with countless small fragments striking the hull and producing crisp sounds.

"Captain, this is the fourth day. We've already crossed more than half of Reef Starfield; there shouldn't be any ambush, right?" CIC stretched and complained to Angola Zuo.

Since entering Reef Starfield, the CIC position had never been vacant; the radar and reconnaissance systems had been operating at peak capacity. Although there were shifts, it was still exhausting.

"This is part of the mission. As long as the task isn't completed, we cannot let our guard down," Angola Zuo reprimanded.

"Sure, sure." CIC shrugged and returned his focus to the radar and reconnaissance systems. Although tired, it was just a verbal complaint.

The bridge door opened, and Yang Hui and Yurin arrived.

"Angola, how's the situation?"

"Everything is normal, Captain."

"Good, stay vigilant. The more it gets to this point, the less we can relax."

"Yes."

"Has Diva sent any messages?"

"Besides the daily reports, there's nothing special."

"Alright, thank you for your hard work. Once this mission is over, I'll treat the brothers to a good meal on Earth."

"Yay~!"

"Let's take from the rich and distribute the land!"

"Captain! I love you! Colonel! Hand over your husband!"

"Get lost!"

"Hahaha…"

Just as everyone was joking around, the reconnaissance system's alarm interrupted everything; the long-awaited enemy attack had finally arrived.

"E detector response! Confirmed VEGAN attack!"

"Exact numbers!"

"4 battleships, 40 Dorados, 20 Bacta-types!"

"So many enemy aircraft!" Angola Zuo was startled by the report and admired Yang Hui even more.

An ambush of this scale couldn't have been a spur-of-the-moment decision; it was likely that VEGAN had already predicted their route and prepared a pocket formation.

"Interesting. Contact Diva, maintain speed with [Baize], and MS units, engage the enemy immediately." Yang Hui remained calm; this level of ambush was already within his expectations.

Since Jehart could directly change the original armed reconnaissance into a large-scale attack, this ambush would naturally not be a small-scale raid by just a few MS.

Quickly changing into his pilot suit, he boarded the Dawn Gundam, and the images of Graham and Yurin lit up.

"Yang Hui, this attack… is quite interesting. Their target should be us, right?" Graham said.

"There are too many fragments in Reef Starfield, which will greatly limit our performance. The commander on the other side is not simple," Yurin remarked.

The visible meteors were not obstacles for Yang Hui and the others, but the countless fragments drifting in space were worth noting. These fragments posed no threat to battleships and MS, but they were a deadly threat to the fragile floating cannons. If the floating cannons were restricted, it would mean half of Yang Hui's trio's strength was nullified…

Just kidding!

"Good thought, but they still underestimate us too much, don't they?" Yang Hui smiled, not taking the enemy's calculations seriously.

"Whatever happens, I just hope we have worthy opponents this time." Graham shrugged, indifferent, as he wasn't specialized in floating swords; carrying one was just a bonus for him.

And Yurin… looking at her calm and gentle smile, it was clear she didn't mind either.

"Speaking of which, that interesting little guy should be about to engage."

"Oh? The one you have high hopes for? Interesting, his X-Rounder ability is quite strong, right?"

"Of course, but don't think about it; he belongs to Asemu."

"Tch, boring."

"Dawn Gundam, Flag Gundam, launch sequence is ready! You can engage!"

During the exchange, Dawn Gundam and Flag Gundam had already reached the launch deck, and CIC issued the attack order.

"Understood, Yang Hui, Dawn Gundam, engaging."

"Graham Aker, Flag Gundam engaging."

"Luna Gundam, launch sequence ready, please engage!"

"Luna Gundam, engaging!"

...

On the other side, Diva also detected the enemy attack and urgently entered combat readiness.

"Enemy attack! At this time?" Asemu hurriedly changed into his pilot suit and boarded the Gundam AGE-2. He shared the same thoughts as the others; they would be leaving Reef Starfield soon and didn't expect an attack, only to be slapped in the face so quickly.

"Listen up, rookies…" Woolf connected to the squad's communication, "The battle in Reef Starfield is still too early for you, but since the enemy is here, we have no reason not to welcome them. Stay close!"

"Yes!"

G-Titan, Gundam AGE-2, and three [Adele II] units launched in an orderly fashion, closely following behind Yang Hui's trio.

"So… many enemy aircraft…" Max was the true rookie in Woolf's team. Asemu was naturally well-prepared, having been educated by Yang Hui and the others since childhood. Alisa's father, Dique, was also a maintenance engineer in the Federal Army, so she was ready. But when Max saw the enemy outnumbering them by several times, he felt as if he was about to die, struggling to breathe.

"No problem, we have Major Yang Hui with us!" Alisa, though scared, mustered her courage to comfort Max.

"With the Major here, our pressure is much less, but don't let your guard down." The steady Albright reminded the two.

"Understood!" X2.

"This is Yang Hui, Woolf team, from now on, follow my command." Yang Hui connected to the communication of all Woolf team members.

"Oh, it's been a while since I felt this way; hurry up and give orders!" Woolf was a bit excited. He had been reassigned from the [Celestial Being] squad for a long time but still clearly remembered what it felt like to fight under Yang Hui's command. That exhilarating feeling had never been experienced in any other unit.

"Woolf, Asemu, follow me and Graham to engage the enemy head-on; the others follow Yurin for cover."

"Understood!" XN.

With the orders given, the Dawn Gundam, Flag Gundam, G-Titan, and Gundam AGE-2 burst forth with fire, rushing at the enemy formation at top speed. The three [Adele II] units stayed close to Yurin, providing fire support for the assault team while also ensuring Yurin's safety.

As they engaged, yellow beams and pink beams wove a brilliant scene in the silent Reef Starfield. Max and Alisa, still within the rookie category, panicked and shot at the enemy upon sight, firing again if they missed, growing more anxious as the beams brushed past the enemy aircraft.

"Calm down." Yurin connected to their communication and said.

"Colonel!"

"Stay calm, aim before you shoot, take them one at a time."

Yurin's gentle words were like a cool breeze on the hot battlefield, extinguishing the restless sparks, and the refreshing comfort cooled their agitated hearts.

"Understood."

"Phew~ aim before shooting… aim before shooting…"

"Ding~!" When Max saw the lock-on indicator light up on the screen, he decisively pulled the trigger, and the pink beam shot forth like a drawn sword, piercing through a Dorados' midsection.

"One at a time… one at a time…" Alisa, though not as methodical as Max in her shooting, calmed down and no longer pursued the quick destruction of the two Dorados in front of her. Instead, she fired continuously, first disrupting the coordination of the two machines, then…

"Boom~!"

The disrupted Dorados fell into a momentary stiffness, and in that instant, the [Adele II]'s shots hit, exploding like fireworks in space.

"Got one!"

"Success!"

"Yeah, just like that, keep going!"

"Yes!"

Seeing that the two had entered the zone, Yurin nodded in satisfaction, then fired sporadically, not hitting any enemy aircraft but forcing back all the enemies trying to get close, returning to their previous position before the advance.

Albright noticed this as well. At first, he didn't understand why Yurin was doing this, but after hearing her guidance to Max and Alisa, and seeing them gradually get into the zone, he understood.

She intends to train them on the battlefield!

Albright was also taken aback by Yurin's actions, training in actual combat, especially when the enemy's ambush was already set, and their forces were at an absolute disadvantage.

"Well, with a Colonel as capable as her, it's not surprising." After figuring out the key, Albright shrugged, "In that case, I can't fall behind either; losing to rookies would be quite embarrassing."

With that thought, Albright's [Adele II] fired, landing three consecutive shots on a Bacta-type that was about to get close.

The rear line stabilized under Yurin's leadership, with both sides in a stalemate, unable to eliminate each other for the time being. Meanwhile, the enemy formation at the front boiled and exploded like a pot of hot oil being splashed with a ladle of cold water.

Yang Hui and Graham, as the sharpest blades, sliced the front line in half, creating an opening in the middle, with the two sides dispersing like red and gray meteors, once again cutting the enemy formation into four pieces, shattering the arranged formation.

"Yah~!" G-Titan charged quickly, slicing through two Dorados blocking the way, then opened its arms, firing both the Vargas rifle and Beam Vulcan simultaneously, taking down four enemy aircraft in an instant.

"Woolf Captain, so impressive!" Asemu exclaimed. During the Tordia defense battle, he hadn't felt much, thinking Woolf's performance didn't quite match the title of "Angel" of the [Celestial Being] squad.

But now… Asemu felt that the title of "Mad Wolf Angel" was well-deserved.

"I can't lose either, haah~!"

Gundam AGE-2 fired its dual guns, disrupting a Bacta-type's movements, forcing the enemy's activity space to collapse. Gundam AGE-2 then approached the Bacta-type, closing the gun barrels to form a sword and slashing down in a cross.

"Swish~"

"Boom!"

Having taken down one enemy aircraft, Asemu searched for the next target but found that there were no enemies around him, and Dawn Gundam, Flag Gundam, and G-Titan had already distanced themselves from him.

"Falling behind? I need to catch up quickly…"

Just as Asemu prepared to follow closely, he noticed a Dorados had locked onto G-Titan from behind.

"…Captain! Behind you!"

Woolf heard Asemu's warning but didn't care, still pursuing the opponent in front of him.

"Captain!"

Asemu thought Woolf hadn't heard or couldn't react in time, so he wanted to rush over to help, but the distance was already beyond his comfortable shooting range. In his panic, his shot couldn't even disrupt that Dorados.

Just as the Dorados' cannon glowed ominously, ready to reap Woolf's soul, a pink beam shot from behind, piercing through from the front.

"Boom~!"

"That's…"

Asemu looked in the direction of the shot and saw Dawn Gundam aiming at other enemy aircraft.

"Uncle Yang Hui's cover… No, I can't keep going like this!"

Asemu gritted his teeth and tightly followed behind in Gundam AGE-2.

...

"Woolf, you're exposed!" Yang Hui shouted while eliminating enemy aircraft.

"Aren't you still here?" Woolf replied nonchalantly. He certainly knew he had just been locked on; he wasn't deaf, and he could hear Asemu's warning.

But… with Yang Hui around, why worry about his back?

"Tch, you idiot, be careful not to get yourself killed."

"Relax, I know what I'm doing."

Ending the communication, Yang Hui smirked, secretly praising that their old synergy hadn't been lost.

At that moment, Yang Hui received an urgent communication from [Baize].

"Captain! An enemy aircraft is approaching you from direction B543, moving at three times the speed of a Dorados!"
