At first, Mewtwo saw a world of pitch black, then gradually it turned into a wide street painted in shades of grey, white, and black. Houses lined the sides. The sun soon illuminated the world, filling it with color. Leaves fluttered in the wind, and after the sunset came stars and the night sky.
As the dream-like memory faded, Mewtwo opened its eyes and stared in confusion at the "shadow" before him.
It looked like a mix between a deer and a rabbit, holding some kind of farming tool in its hands—but most importantly—
"What a huge head!"
Calyrex: "Such rudeness! Why does everyone say that?! Wait a moment… I know you!"
Mewtwo sat up in shock, stunned by the strange scene around him. After the dream vanished, he'd somehow ended up in this bizarre place. Beneath him was vibrant green grass—too vibrant, almost like it had been painted with watercolor.
In the distance were large fields and orchards filled with strange crops.
The sky had cartoonishly simple sun and cloud drawings. Floating islands drifted overhead, connected to the ground below by—rainbows?
Where was this place?
"What is this? It's like something drawn by a child... Wait, are you a Pokémon?"
"From that head… could you be Calyrex?!"
That iconic oversized head—there was no mistaking it. From color to shape, it matched the doll exactly!
Wait—the doll turned real?!
Calyrex: "This is the Pokémon Dream Realm. I… hmm, was invited to reside here, so I suppose I'm half the master of this place?"
Calyrex stared at Mewtwo. Although it had never seen Mewtwo before, the aura of faith radiating from him was unmistakable!
Its mouth curled into a joyful smile from the bottom of its heart:
"It seems you're one of my devoted believers! Fancy that—you've manifested here in this land out of nowhere."
"You must be the Pokémon known as Mewtwo! I sincerely thank you for your trust and support. Thanks to you, my powers have recovered even more! I didn't expect to meet you here in the dream world."
"But… it seems like you don't know why you're here."
Mewtwo asked anxiously, "So you really are Calyrex… Do you know how I got here?"
Calyrex blinked with a blank stare and replied confidently:
"How would I know how you got here?! I was just asking!"
Mewtwo: "...?"
This Calyrex didn't seem particularly bright.
Still, meeting a Legendary Pokémon like this did lift Mewtwo's spirits a little. As it looked around, its gaze suddenly froze.
This workshop… looked a lot like that craftsman's place.
Calyrex: "This is the Dream Workshop—connected to the Johto region's Traveler's Forge. It's owned by a mysterious craftsman named Hikaru."
"Seems you don't know anything about the Pokémon Dream Realm."
Calyrex proudly pounded its chest:
"In that case, allow me to introduce this wondrous land!"
"The Pokémon Dream Realm is a special world connected to the hearts of all Pokémon. Every Pokémon can enter it freely. This here is the deepest part of the Dream Realm—essentially the place of all Pokémon's dreams."
"Each Pokémon's dream is different, so not all have floating islands. The ones that do are special. For example, my floating island resembles the Crown Tundra in the real world. I used to rule Galar, as the King of Bountiful Harvests—so I'm located there even now in the real world."
"What's gained here in the Dream Realm is real in a sense—but bringing things out into the real world is tricky. You'd need to go to the Unova region and find the Entralink Forest. Only in that mysterious forest can dream objects become real."
Mewtwo had traveled far and wide—but this was the first time it had entered the world of dreams.
It was completely stunned. An alternate psychic world outside reality?
From Calyrex's explanation, it seemed all dreams were part of this Dream Realm—it just never knew before.
Mewtwo: "This exceeds my understanding. I've been to many places, but never experienced something like this."
"…With strong psychic power, can I travel directly between this Dream Workshop and Johto's Forge?"
Calyrex's eyes glazed over. "Only the owner and their Pokémon can use the workshop to move between worlds. And if you could do that, why not just use Teleport?"
Mewtwo: "…Fair point."
Calyrex: "You wish to go to Johto? I'd like to visit too, though I hear it's mostly ruins and ancient villages now."
Mewtwo: "I'm just seeking a peaceful life. Johto fits that—it's secluded, unknown to most, free of human harm, hunger, war, and conflict."
The farmland here in the Dream Workshop was well managed by Calyrex, with vast fields and orchards filled with Pecha Berries—but… what was that massive cauliflower thing?!
Calyrex: "Impressive, isn't it? That's a new crop my friend Hikaru and I cultivated together! The soil here has been enriched by both of us—it can grow rare or difficult crops from the real world."
"I personally farm everything here. Working seems to grant me special powers too."
"All of this—I collected the seeds myself!"
Calyrex was quite proud, then said with a more serious tone:
"There is no land without conflict—except perhaps this one."
It pointed to the ground beneath its feet.
"Here in the Dream Realm, Pokémon can live in peace."
But just as it said that, Calyrex remembered Walking Wake, who kept scavenging everything…
…Ah. Maybe not always.
Calyrex: "Since you're here, why not stay? We're actually recruiting Pokémon right now. My strength hasn't fully returned, and farming is exhausting!"
Mewtwo blinked. "Recruiting… to help you farm? Are you the only Pokémon here?"
Calyrex: "There's another Pokémon who lives here long-term—Walking Wake. But it went out to invite others and… well, it's not great at making friends. I'm quite worried about it."
"I farm here to cultivate special soils and crops. Here, try this."
Calyrex pulled up an orange-red carrot and handed it to Mewtwo, promoting it enthusiastically:
"My carrots are delicious! They're not giant or radiant crops, but the juice! The crunch! Unmatched flavor!"
"Ah, thank you." Mewtwo took the carrot and took a bite.
Mmm! Its eyes lit up.
"This tastes amazing! Even better than similar foods I've tried in human society!"
Calyrex: "Of course! I'm the King of Bountiful Harvests! Growing top-tier crops is child's play!"
Calyrex puffed up with pride—finally, it could be mighty in front of its own believer, no longer a powerless king!
Just then, a dragon's roar rang out from one of the distant floating islands. Mewtwo turned alertly toward the sound, and Calyrex muttered:
"Walking Wake is back… Uh… What happened to you?!"
Walking Wake stumbled back, completely disheveled. Its mane was frayed like it had exploded, and wounds covered its draconic body—even its crystal horn was damaged. It glanced at Mewtwo, stunned by his power, but before it could even ask who he was, it began wailing to Calyrex in frustration!
It ran into those three Pokémon again!
Even though it had negotiated with them in other dreams—offering seeds and inviting them to live here—it may have tried dragging them in by force. Either way, fate had brought them together again. Somehow, those three Pokémon always showed up and chased it relentlessly!
If it could do it over, Walking Wake definitely wouldn't have bitten Cobalion's horn… That guy always brought the other two with him to chase it around in every dream!
Meanwhile, Mewtwo just stared in a daze.
Walking Wake…?
This dragon looked extremely similar to the Pokémon known as Suicune!
