"Mom." Alexis gripped her hands. "Who did it? Please…please tell me who did it."
Eleni stared at her and slowly shook her head. She couldn't tell her. If she did, things would be ruined the very moment she woke up. None of them would be able to persuade her to stay.
She caressed her hair and half smiled at her. "I don't remember, honey—"
"Yes, you do! You know you do!" Alexis snapped at her. "Why are you lying to me? Why can't you tell me who did that to you?"
"Because it will ruin things for you. Because this decision will hurt you. So please, listen to me, calm down, okay?" Eleni begged. "You will find out eventually. Not from me, but you will. So will you calm down and trust me?"
"Mom…"
"Alexis, do you trust me?" she pressed.
She slowly nodded her head. "If I don't trust you, who else would I trust?"
