Chapter 39 - Chapter 37: Link's Training

[Third Floor: Breeder Department]

The hum of activity surrounded Arlo and Serena as they ascended to the Pokémon Breeder Department on the second floor. Stepping out of the elevator, Arlo found himself in awe.

The area was a vibrant ecosystem, bustling with Pokémon and their trainers. Glass enclosures housed Pokémon eggs in incubators, while others contained young Pokémon playfully interacting with each other. The soft chirps, barks, and hums created a symphony of life.

"This is where the magic happens," Serena said, her voice tinged with pride. She gestured to a nearby enclosure where a Cyndaquil napped atop a heated rock, its flames dimmed to embers.. "Pokémon breeders not only nurture Pokémon from birth but also ensure their growth is optimal. They focus on passing down traits, managing diet, and understanding each Pokémon's needs."

Arlo nodded, observing the meticulous care that went into every detail. He used [Observe] to a trio of Ralts toddled past, their tiny hands clasped around glowing Everstones. Stats cascaded in his vision egg groups, hidden abilities, even a footnote about "IV variance: 12-28" before he blinked them away. He'd read about breeders in his research, but seeing it firsthand was another experience entirely. This wasn't just science it was an art form.

Serena approached a petite young woman. The young woman stood at the center of the chaos, her lavender hair tucked under a bandana patterned with tiny Cherubi. She measured powdered Starf berries into a mixer, her calloused hands moving with the precision of a lab machine.

"Shannon," she said warmly, "Meet Arlo Leeroy. He's a new member of the club and needs some professional advice."

Shannon turned and smiled, extending a hand. "Nice to meet you, Arlo."

Arlo shook her hand, noting the callouses on her fingers a testament to the hard work she put into her craft.

"Thanks for helping out," he said. "I'm looking for high-quality Pokéblocks for my Rockruff, Link."

Shannon crouched to examine Link, her eyes scanning him with precision.

"May I?" she asked, gesturing to the Rockruff.

"Go ahead," Arlo replied.

Link sniffed her bandana, tail wagging. Shannon's examination was a ballet of practiced motions: tilting his jaw to inspect teeth (spotless, thanks to Moo Moo Milk's calcium boost), running a finger along his paw pads (slightly calloused from apartment-floor sprints), and murmuring notes into her tablet.

"Impressive,"she said finally. "No parasites, optimal weight, and his aura's… vibrant. Like he's got a Litwick burning in there."

"All-in-All, you've got a strong and healthy Pokémon here," Shannon said, standing up. "Whatever you've been doing, keep it up. His coat is glossy, and his energy levels are excellent."

Arlo felt a swell of pride. "Thanks. He's been on Moo Moo Milk and General Pokéblocks so far, but I want to step it up."

"Good call. Customized Pokéblocks can make a huge difference," Shannon said, pulling out a tablet. "For a Rockruff, you'll want a formula rich in minerals to enhance his Rock typing. I've got a recipe that works wonders. It'll take a bit of time to prepare, but I'll make sure it's worth the wait."

"How much will it cost?" Arlo asked, bracing himself.

"It depends on the ingredients, but a batch typically runs between 300 to 1000 credits," Shannon replied. "Since it's tailored to his needs, you'll see the benefits almost immediately."

Arlo glanced at Link, who wagged his tail enthusiastically. "Alright, let's do it. He deserves the best."

Shannon smiled. "While I work on the Pokéblocks, you might want to head to the third floor. That's where our training facilities are. It's a great way to help Link build strength and agility."

"Me and Ms. Well have been there recently, maybe it is good train with Link first," Arlo said. He turned to Ms. Wells. "Thanks for introducing me."

"Anytime," Serena replied. "Here my contact info if you need anything."

As Shannon headed to her workstation, Arlo took a moment to watch Link interact with the other Pokémon. This was a new chapter in their journey, and he was determined to make the most of it.

"Come on, buddy," Arlo said, kneeling to pet Link. "Let's see what the training floor has in store for us." Link barked excitedly

=================================================

[Third Floor: Training Zone]

Arlo and Link stepped into the expansive training facilities on the third floor, and the sheer size of the space left him momentarily stunned. The training facilities stretched farther than he expected, with various sections dedicated to different types of Pokémon training.

On one side, there were rock-climbing walls designed for Rock-types like Geodude and Onix. Another area had pools for Water-types, where trainers and Pokémon worked on synchronized agility exercises. The air buzzed with activity, and the sight of trainers actively working with their Pokémon filled Arlo with a mix of awe and anticipation.

"This place is amazing," Arlo murmured. "It's like a real-life Pokémon Stadium."

Link barked in agreement, his tail wagging enthusiastically as his eyes darted from one training zone to another. He seemed particularly interested in a section where a Machop was balancing multiple weights on its arms while walking a tightrope.

"First time here?" A deep, confident voice interrupted Arlo's thoughts.

He turned to see a tall, muscular man with a buzzcut and a sharp uniform bearing the club's emblem. His name tag read Lance Ryder.

"Yeah, first time," Arlo replied, extending his hand. "I'm Arlo, and this is Link."

Lance shook his hand firmly before crouching to get a closer look at Link. "Nice to meet you both. Link looks like a sturdy Rockruff. Just entered Juvenile stage, I'm guessing?"

"That's right," Arlo confirmed. "I want to train him properly so he's ready to accompany me on quests."

Lance nodded approvingly. "Good to hear. Training is crucial, especially at this stage. Juvenile Pokémon are like sponges—they absorb everything, both good and bad. But tell me, what's your goal for Link? What do you want him to become?"

Arlo hesitated for a moment, glancing down at Link, who was now sniffing the ground with curiosity.

"I want him to be versatile," he said finally. "Strong, fast, and able to adapt to different situations. I don't just want him to be a powerhouse; I want him to be smart in battles too."

Lance grinned. "That's a good mindset. Many trainers focus too much on brute strength and forget the importance of strategy. Rockruff has great potential, especially depending on its evolution path. Do you know which form you're aiming for?"

Arlo paused, remembering the information he'd read about Rockruff's evolutions he left the inforamtion about the dusk form to himself. "I'm leaning towards the Lycanroc Day form that focus in speed and a physical attacker. It feels like the right fit for Link's personality. He's courageous, energetic, and loyal."

"That's an ambitious choice," Lance said, his expression thoughtful. "But it's also one of the most balanced forms. You'll need to focus on agility drills and timing, especially since the Lycanroc relies on precision and adaptability. Have you started thinking about specific drills?"

"Not really," Arlo admitted. "I was hoping for some guidance."

Lance gestured toward a nearby training zone. "Let's start with weight training. Training with weight allows Link to build speed, endurance, and strength. It'll help Link build confidence and improve his overall strength."

"Sounds good," Arlo said, his excitement growing. He knelt down to speak to Link. "Alright, buddy, time to show them what you've got. Just follow my lead, okay?"

Link barked enthusiastically, his tail wagging as he followed Arlo and Lance to the strength zone.

....

[Strength Zone Area]

Arlo stood in the expansive strength zone, taking in the layout. The area was filled with various equipment designed specifically for Pokémon, including weighted vests, treadmills, obstacle courses, and even resistance bands suited for different Pokémon sizes. The room buzzed with energy as trainers worked alongside their Pokémon, each focusing on honing a unique skill set.

Link tugged lightly at Arlo's pants, his tail wagging as he eyed a group of Geodude performing weighted push-ups.

Arlo chuckled, patting Link's head. "Don't worry, buddy. We'll get you started on something more your speed."

Lance handed Arlo a small, weighted vest scaled perfectly for Link's size. "This should do the trick. He's still young, and we want to avoid overexerting him."

Arlo crouched, holding the vest. "Alright, Link, this is your new training gear. Think of it like armor from one of those games we play, but less dramatic."

Link sniffed the vest cautiously before giving an excited bark. Arlo laughed. "You're braver than I was when I first wore weighted training gear."

Sliding the vest onto Link, Arlo made sure it was snug but comfortable.

Link wobbled for a moment, adjusting to the weight. He shot Arlo a look that clearly said, "What have you done to me?"

"You'll thank me later, buddy," Arlo said with a grin. "This is step one in becoming a champion. Trust me, even Cloud from Final Fantasy had to grind."

Lance observed the interaction with amusement. "You've got a good rapport with him. That's half the battle won already. Now let's see how he moves."

Arlo stood and gestured for Link to follow. At first, Link moved hesitantly, each step slow and deliberate as he adapted to the extra weight.

Arlo walked beside him, offering words of encouragement. "That's it, Link. One step at a time. You've got this."

After a few laps around the training area, Link's movements became more fluid. He started wagging his tail again, even breaking into a light jog.

Arlo couldn't help but feel a swell of pride. "See? You're already getting the hang of it."

Lance nodded approvingly. "He's got good stamina for his age. Let's take it up a notch. Over there is the agility course. It's simple enough to get him used to moving with the vest while navigating obstacles."

The agility course consisted of small hurdles, a balance beam, and a tunnel. Arlo guided Link through it slowly at first, holding his hand out as a guide. Link hesitated at the balance beam but quickly found his footing with Arlo's reassurance.

"You're a natural," Arlo said as Link darted through the tunnel, emerging on the other side with a triumphant bark.

Arlo couldn't help but laugh. "Who needs a Pikachu when I've got you?"

After an hour of training, Link plopped down on the mat, panting but looking pleased with himself.

Arlo knelt beside him, unstrapping the vest. "Good work, buddy. You earned yourself a treat."

Lance approached, emailed Arlo a the information Guide. "Here's a training plan tailored for Rock-types. It includes exercises and dietary suggestions to complement his growth. Stick with this, and you'll see steady progress."

Arlo accepted the Guide gratefully. "Thanks, Lance. This has been really helpful."

Lance patted Link on the head. "He's got potential. With the right training, he'll be a force to reckon with. Keep at it, Arlo."

As they left the strength zone, Arlo couldn't shake the feeling of satisfaction. Watching Link grow stronger and more confident filled him with a sense of purpose.

"Let's get some rest," Arlo said, scooping Link into his arms. Link gave a soft bark of agreement, his eyes drooping. Arlo smiled, already looking forward to their next session.

Arlo placed Link back into the Luxury Ball after their training session.

"Take a break, buddy. You earned it," he said as the red light enveloped Link, pulling him back into the comfortable confines of the ball.

Adjusting his bag, Arlo headed toward the elevator, pressing the button for the second floor where the Pokémon Breeder section was located.

.....

[Second Floor: Breeder Department]

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime, and Arlo stepped into the vibrant breeder's area. Rows of neatly organized tables lined with specialized equipment stretched across the room, filled with Pokémon of varying species and ages. Shannon was standing at one of the tables, meticulously arranging what looked like a set of radiant Pokéblocks.

"Hey, Shannon!" Arlo greeted, waving as he approached.

Shannon turned, smiling warmly. "Ah, perfect timing, Arlo. Your Rock-type Pokéblocks are ready."

Arlo leaned closer, examining the batch. The Pokéblocks sparkled like gemstones, their vivid colors catching the light.

"Wow, these look incredible," he said, genuinely impressed. "They're like the gourmet equivalent of Pokémon food."

Shannon laughed lightly, brushing a strand of her lavender hair from her face. "Thanks for the compliment. These are high-quality blocks, so they'll provide Link with all the nutrients and energy he needs. But keep in mind, they only last for about a week."

Arlo nodded. "Got it. So, besides these Pokéblocks, what else should I include in Link's diet?" Shannon tapped her chin thoughtfully. "Berries and vitamins are excellent supplements. Oran berries are a great all-rounder for healing, Passho berries give resistance to Water-type moves, and Kee berries help raise physical defense."

"That makes sense," Arlo replied, pulling up his BrainLink to note down the items. "Anything else I should keep in mind?"

"Consistency is key," Shannon said. "A balanced diet will enhance Link's growth and help him build strength for battles. And don't forget to adjust as he evolves."

Arlo smiled appreciatively. "Thanks, Shannon. You've been a huge help."

Shannon held up a hand modestly. "Just doing my part. That'll be 500 credits for the Pokéblocks."

Arlo's smile faltered slightly as he transferred the payment.

"No problem at all," he said, though internally, he winced. "500 credits for a week's worth of food? Raising Pokémon is no joke."

With the Pokéblocks packed away in his inventory, Arlo headed toward the first-floor shops. The expansive floor was bustling with trainers and their Pokémon, and holographic displays showcased the various items on sale. He browsed the aisles, picking up a selection of Oran, Passho, and Kee berries, as well as protein and carbos vitamins to boost Link's physical attack and speed.

The total cost came to 800 credits, leaving him with [3,010 credits]

Arlo let out a low whistle as he exited the shop. "This is turning into the most expensive hobby I've ever had," he muttered, shaking his head. But as he thought about Link's eager determination during training, he felt a sense of satisfaction. It's worth it. This is an investment in his future and ours.

As he stepped out of the club, the cool evening breeze greeted him. The sky was a gradient of orange and purple as the sun began to set in a futuristic city. He reached for Link's Luxury Ball, releasing him into the open air.

Link barked excitedly, wagging his tail as he looked up at Arlo.

"Ready to head home, Link?" Arlo asked, crouching down to give his partner a pat on the head. Link barked again, happily trotting alongside Arlo as they made their way down the street.

Arlo glanced at the bustling city around him, his thoughts drifting to the challenges ahead. This is just the beginning. If I want to make it as a pioneer, Link and I have to grow stronger together. And that starts with the little steps like today.

As they reached the Quantum Cube apartment, Arlo looked down at Link and grinned. "Tomorrow, we'll hit the Club again. But tonight? You get to enjoy your shiny new Pokéblocks."

Link barked in agreement, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. Arlo couldn't help but laugh as they stepped into the building, ready to recharge for another day of adventure.
