As they made their way down the hallway, the sound of chattering students filled the air — lockers slamming, feet shuffling, voices overlapping. But to Marrok, it was all just background noise, drowned out by the way his mind kept spinning.
He glanced sideways at Ulva, walking beside him like nothing was wrong, like she hadn't just walked into class late with Amanda of all people. His brows furrowed deeper, tension stiffening his shoulders.
Raul must've picked up on it because he leaned slightly toward Marrok, muttering under his breath, "Since when is she all buddy-buddy with her?"
Marrok didn't answer right away. He was too focused on Ulva's calm expression, the way she was twirling a pen between her fingers like she didn't have a care in the world.
"I don't know," he said finally, voice low. "But I'm gonna find out."
