It was like a bolt from the blue.

In both her lives, Jane had never imagined—

That a guardian would suddenly appear out of nowhere!

Given that Dumbledore, as headmaster, spent twenty-five hours out of twenty-four at school, she would likely be welded to Hogwarts until she came of age!

No matter how rebellious she acted, with such a guardian above her head, there was no way she could withdraw from school!

Was her plan to leave school destined to fail?

She thought desperately.

She didn't even know how to address Dumbledore.

Should she call him father, grandfather, or...?

And she had no idea if she would be responsible for his elderly care.

But Dumbledore seemed oblivious to her concerns.

"Until you come of age, I'll be responsible for all your expenses, both living and educational," he said with a cheerful smile, appearing to relish the idea. "During summer holidays, I'll provide suitable accommodation and arrange activities for you."

Dumbledore was proving to be quite the helicopter parent.

He had already mentally compiled a long list of summer arrangements for his ward.

Like visiting the Flamels first, then the Scamanders... the Weasleys... filling Jane's mind with rich magical knowledge, magical creatures knowledge, and the warmth of family!

He could already envision how, in a few years, under his successful guidance, Jane would become an idealistic, righteous witch, giving interviews to the Daily Prophet!

Perhaps she could work at the Ministry of Magic, become a professor at Hogwarts, or even take his position... academic research would be excellent too...

He was lost in these pleasant fantasies.

...

Jane walked to Snape's office feeling confused and angry. This would be her last detention of the term.

Though nothing was impossible if one put their mind to it—

This situation seemed particularly unsolvable, leaving her unable to think of any solution for the time being.

Meanwhile, her Head of House, the Dungeon's Snake King, Professor Severus Snape, appeared even more furious than she was.

He never imagined that despite all his precautions, and thinking Dumbledore had abandoned that ridiculous idea of transferring Jane's house, the old man would pull such a drastic move and become the guardian of the potions prodigy he had painstakingly nurtured!

Wasn't one Potter enough?

He had the strange feeling that he was raising a child for someone else's benefit, which made him particularly aggressive.

The poor old professor went on a rampage during Potions class, deducting massive points from a certain Potter and various Weasleys. Gryffindor's points plummeted to an all-time low.

"Snape's gone mad!" Ron's legs could barely support him as he crawled from the Potions classroom to the Gryffindor common room. "Can you believe he took 10 points from Harry and me in one class?"

His twin brothers whistled, and Fred mysteriously winked, pulling out a small piece of paper with a number on it.

"Two points?" Ron scoffed. "We got five times that!"

But George pulled out another piece of paper, also with a number.

"Zero?" Ron grumbled. "What's so special about zero points?"

His words were cut short as the two pieces of paper came together.

"Twenty points! Merlin's beard—" he jumped up in disbelief. "What did you two do?"

Fred shrugged helplessly, his red hair hanging limply, having lost its usual luster:

"We were preparing a small gift for our special snake member."

His twin continued:

"Modified Filibuster fireworks—but Snape caught us while writing the 'to' note."

Ginny gasped nearby, now understanding why she'd received another detention warning from Snape today.

She remembered the rumors she'd heard in Snape's office last time.

And thought about the Canary Cream she'd eaten.

Anger welled up inside her.

She stood up furiously, leaving with a harsh statement:

"You and your ridiculous actions—I'm definitely telling Mum!"

And Percy, their brother and Gryffindor prefect, looked like he was having a hypertensive crisis.

According to Fred, Percy was ready to resign in disgrace and lead the whole Weasley family to write a blood petition in front of Snape's office, or bash his head against the Potions classroom wall.

Similarly, Jane faced indiscriminate attacks during this detention.

Her Head of House first criticized her technique for crushing dittany roots, then angrily pointed out that she had heated the unicorn hair for 0.1 seconds too long, not even awarding her a single point.

As she brewed her potion, Snape stood with his arms crossed, lecturing her:

"The Weasleys, a whole family of trolls who know nothing about potions, are particularly skilled at dragging good students down—"

"Miss Yu should learn to choose appropriate... companions. Those twins who can turn flobberworms into mush don't even qualify to enter my advanced potions class."

Jane looked at him innocently, her instincts telling her the Weasley twins must have done something major.

But Snape just glared back:

"If you don't return your attention to your cauldron, I'm afraid you'll end up with dittany porridge."

"Should you brew such a thing, you'll also lose your qualification to enter my advanced potions class."

As the lengthy detention finally ended, Snape made sure to give her one last piece of advice as she was leaving:

"Although I have no right to comment on the headmaster's decisions—"

"I hope you won't just foolishly learn the twelve uses of dragon's blood during your holiday, but also study Advanced Potion-Making."

"Now, take your cauldron and this vial of Elixir to Induce Euphoria back to your dormitory."
