The dim light flickered as Mikey stood frozen in place, the room thick with the weight of his future self's words. His mouth opened and closed, a stutter forming in his throat, but no coherent words could escape.
His eyes darted back and forth, searching for some way to dismiss what he'd just heard, but it clung to him like a heavy fog. The words echoed in his mind, drowning out everything else: "Your inevitable fate is to become like me, a monster."
Regardless, his older self maintained his original demeanor, gazing at him with an all so pleased look.
"What's wrong? You didn't catch what I said?" He inquired, his voice calm yet tinged with a dark amusement.
"...I said, everything you're doing now is leading you to an inevitable fate—to become like me. A monster."
