Zayn sat down on the floor, he could feel the blood in his veins pumping and his heartbeat thumping furiously in the rib cage. He felt like destroying everything and this feeling was a new thing. He had never felt this way apart from the day his father died and on a few occasions concerning his mom. His anger and resentment towards everyone skyrocketed but he didn't know what to do.
The thought his mom was all alone back at home and here he was, not even knowing what was happening around made him stand up and he yelled into the dark hallway of the prison ground for help but nothing but his voice came back to him.
He stepped back into the room and moved around with his eyes in search of anything. Something. To unlock this place and leave but he found none leaving him shaking the wicket gate. He shook and shook it however he captured a silhouette sprinting down to him and he retreated a little inside the room.
Large footfalls came and stood in front of him, there was not a single light to see who it was but the voice that came next whispering "Are you okay?"
Her feminine voice whispered to him and he came to stand close holding the iron bars of the gate "Let me out of here" he said but saw a moment where her head shook "please" he pleaded.
"My father and the councils have handed you to ash to take care of." Selene bit her lips in frustration "if you leave or disappear from here, ash would know I have a hand in it"
Zayn couldn't contain his cross for her and he banged the iron bar repeatedly before pressing his forehead to it "I swear…on my mom. I'm not a spy and I don't know but I got into a portal which I don't understand that led me here. My mom is at home all alone and…and…I need to be with her before she does something she would regret" he murmured the last part but she heard it.
At this Selene knew he was telling the truth with how vulnerable his voice sounded and the mention of his mom. She knew what it was like losing a mom though hers had been a different story but nevertheless she knew how it felt.
She closed her eyes and touched the padlock holding the small wicket gate, she knew she wasn't supposed to be doing this. Her mana was drained and needed to be replenished and ash would eat her for this but she went on. Murmuring a few spells under her breath with blood trickling down her nose the key clicked open and she fell on the floor.
Ash was with the key which was a lost cause trying to get it from him. She knew what he was feeling like right now that he was in charge of a large thing like a mole in the kingdom. Such an honorable but foolish act keeping a man knowing he was innocent. She knew he knew zayn was telling the truth but ash was one of the most unpredictable people she had ever known in her existence.
Zayn scurried out of the room and helped her up but she collapsed again. This time she needed a potion before she died. She urged him to run, which was not possible. This was an unfamiliar place to him which he couldn't just venture into the hallway like his home.
"I don't know where to go from here"he said as he helped her up and she leaned on him with one hand on the wall. Her eyes gleamed and a bright light emerged casting a clear pathway where they slowly walked.
Selene knew what she was doing was against everything in their kingdom but she wouldn't let another innocent man suffer again under her watch knowing she was capable of helping. Before she had come here with the help of her nanny she hadn't thought this through, only ran on impulse.
They walked away from the prison grounds with zayn helping her walk, arriving at the double gates of the exit, they heard voices coming down and they hid waiting for the noise to leave which did after what felt like forever.
At this point Selene was so tired and weak that she collapsed and couldn't stand up again, urging zayn to run to someone who was waiting for him if he ran far away from the prison grounds and castle grounds. He glanced at her one more before sprinting off.
Selene lay her back to the ground and facing her head heavenwards, her eyes welled up with tears at what she just did. She smiled as claps of thunder roared in the sky and a few droplets of rain began pouring down her face.
She closed her eyes before opening them again to see a dark shadow with wings gazing down at her. She closed her eyes and opened it again to the dark night. No shadow or the silhouette of wings. Her eyes closed.
