Chapter 76 - Chapter 76: Mission Accomplished

As the smoke cleared, a massive toad emerged in front of Jiraiya. He leapt effortlessly onto the toad's head.

The toad Jiraiya summoned was none other than Gamabunta. The creature still bore bandages on some parts of its body—evidence of the injuries it had sustained.

"Let's get rid of these pesky little bugs," Jiraiya ordered Gamabunta.

Before the enormous toad, the black-armored centipede and earthworm seemed no more significant than insects.

"Crushing these bugs? That's child's play," Gamabunta replied, exhaling a puff of smoke from the pipe clenched in his mouth.

The sight of Gamabunta made the two Iwagakure jonin widen their eyes in shock.

"What kind of summoning beast is this? It's way too big!"

The toads from Mount Myoboku were rarely, if ever, seen in the shinobi world. It was no surprise that the Iwagakure jonin couldn't identify them.

In the original timeline, Jiraiya was guided by Mount Myoboku to summon its toads, later passing the summoning contract to Minato Namikaze and Naruto Uzumaki.

"Is this really a summoning beast from Mount Myoboku?" one of the observing ANBU members muttered, equally astonished.

For many, it was their first time seeing a summoning beast of such size.

Gamabunta sprang into action, leaping high before unleashing a barrage of water bullets from his mouth toward the earthworm. Although the earthworm moved quickly, it was no match for the toad's overwhelming assault. Gamabunta fired six water bullets in quick succession, two of which struck the earthworm directly, obliterating it in an instant.

Ordinary summoning beasts stood no chance against Gamabunta. They were fragile and insignificant in comparison.

Jiraiya's frequent sparring sessions with Gamabunta—each time he mastered a new jutsu—had motivated the toad to train hard in self-defense. Consequently, his water bullets now packed twice the power they had when they first met.

Even so, he was still no match for Jiraiya in their spars, often ending up on the receiving end of a thorough beating. But that didn't stop him from showing off when it came to weaker opponents.

"Pathetic. These weaklings aren't even worth my full effort," Gamabunta laughed heartily, clearly reveling in his dominance.

He followed up by drawing his blade and striking the black-armored centipede. The mustachioed Iwagakure jonin frantically tried to control the centipede, but it was too slow to escape Gamabunta's massive swing. The toad's blade sliced the creature cleanly in two.

The sight of their summoning beasts being effortlessly destroyed left the Iwagakure jonin in despair. They stared at Gamabunta in fear, realizing they were utterly outmatched.

"Captain, this mission feels more like a vacation," one ANBU ninja remarked.

"Agreed. It's been a while since we've had such an easy assignment. Jiraiya-sama really is incredible," another replied.

The ANBU members were thoroughly impressed by Jiraiya's strength.

"Even with his overwhelming power, we can't afford to let our guard down," Yūhi Mitsune said, her tone cold and composed. "We need to remain vigilant in case the enemy attempts to escape."

One of the ANBU members couldn't resist adding, "Captain, you're amazing. Even in the face of such an extraordinary display, you're still so calm."

But the next moment, Mitsune couldn't hold back a gasp of astonishment.

"Unbelievable!" Her previously icy demeanor melted away entirely.

Jiraiya had unleashed the Myriad Thunder Prison, summoning a storm of lightning that rained down mercilessly on the two Iwagakure jonin. The entire area seemed to transform into a sea of thunder, blinding and deafening all who witnessed it.

The jonin attempted to defend themselves, raising walls of earth to shield against the lightning. But the thunderbolts shattered their defenses instantly.

"Ahhh!" The agonized screams of the jonin echoed through the storm before they were reduced to ashes.

"Nice work, Gamabunta. Crushing those bugs was a breeze," Jiraiya said, patting the toad's head.

"These weaklings? Bring me a hundred, a thousand—I'll slice them all down with ease!" Gamabunta boasted. "Next time, find me some stronger opponents. These ones barely warmed me up."

"You want tougher opponents?" Jiraiya chuckled. "No problem. How about we head back to Mount Myoboku and spar for a bit?"

Gamabunta's eyes widened in alarm. "I didn't mean it like that! My job here is done, so I'll be heading back now."

Before Jiraiya could argue, Gamabunta vanished in a puff of smoke, clearly eager to avoid another round of Jiraiya's training. He had more pressing concerns—like courting a female toad back at Mount Myoboku.

Jiraiya turned to Mitsune. "If your ANBU intel is accurate, all the Iwagakure shinobi stationed at this bounty post should now be eliminated. Mission accomplished."

"You doubt the accuracy of ANBU intelligence?" Mitsune shot back. "This post was guarded by six Iwagakure shinobi, no more, no less."

"Then my mission is complete. I'll leave the cleanup to you guys," Jiraiya said, grinning. He had no intention of sticking around for the boring part.

As he turned to leave, Mitsune handed him a small pill. "You inhaled a lot of poison gas earlier. Take this antidote."

Jiraiya glanced at the pill and smirked.

"Didn't expect someone as cold as you to be so considerate. But that poison's nothing to me. You keep it. Hopefully, you'll never need it."

Mitsune tucked the pill back into her pouch.

"Once you pass the evaluation, I'll be your subordinate. Whether or not I'll need it will depend on your leadership as our captain."

"Wait… Sensei wants me to join the ANBU?" Jiraiya asked, stunned.

"You mean the Hokage didn't tell you? If you pass, you'll lead three ANBU squads. Mine is one of them," Mitsune explained.
