I glared at Edward, my entire body trembling, not from fear, not from pain, but from something far darker.
And then I laughed.
A sharp, cold laugh that bubbled out of me, raw and hysterical. It started as a chuckle, then grew, louder and louder, until it echoed through the grand mansion, bouncing off the high ceilings, filling every corner with its haunting sound.
I couldn't stop.
I clutched my stomach, bending slightly as laughter wracked through me. It was the kind of laugh that came from a person who had lost everything... every single thing. It was the sound of someone who had nothing left to lose.
My sides hurt from how hard I was laughing, but the pain was nothing compared to the void inside me.
I felt their stares, bewildered, alarmed, uneasy.
Good.
Let them fear me.
Edward's brows furrowed. "Have you lost your mind?"
