About fifteen minutes later, a detective came in. He was a tall man with a tired face, holding a file in his hand.
"Hello, Aurora. I'm Detective Miles," he said. "Can you tell me where you were last night between 6 and 9 PM?"
Aurora blinked. "I was at home. Studying. My mom was there too."
Detective Miles looked at his papers. "And do you know Mandy?"
Aurora tilted her head. "Yes… She's in my class. We don't really talk much."
He nodded slowly.
"Someone said you hired a man to bully Mandy. Is that true?"
Aurora looked shocked—on purpose. "No! I never did that! Why would I?"
The detective narrowed his eyes.
"We got a statement from someone. They said you were behind everything."
Aurora leaned back in the chair and frowned. "Did that person show you any proof?"
The detective didn't answer. Instead, he asked, "Do you know Caroline's phone was hacked?"
Aurora froze for half a second but quickly smiled.
"No, I didn't know that. That's horrible. Hacking is a serious crime."
