Chapter 97 - Divine Brawl.

I wasn't comfortable just making this a slugfest, Jashin was an idiot, so that fight was easy, I just had to figure out a way to trick him.

With the Shinigami it was different, I didn't know what the fuck his deal was, but he was clearly Divine in nature, but his divinity felt off, it felt like death, yes, but not strong, a peaceful rest at the end of the tunnel, not the dread and fear of impeding doom, or the quiet desperation of realizing nothing you do will change your fate.

Which was not inline with his actions, from my sample size of one, Divinity reflected the owner's... personality, I guess.

With Jashin I could clearly sense his taint on the Divinity, but with this, it was faint, purer.

My godly body fell down from the sky, slamming onto the Shinigami and crushing him into the ground.

The Shinigami was big, taller than any normal human, but my actual form dwarfed him in size.

The Shrine crumbled around us, the forest shook, and I made sure there was no human was in the vicinity of our fight.

It was thankfully pretty remote, so the only thing that was in range was Anko, and she was booking it out of here, good.

But the Shinigami wasn't interested in her, and he slowly lifted my foot up by simply pushing himself off the ground.

His head turned 360 degrees, and his teeth parted, and an eerie light started gathering within it.

I kicked him to the side, the air cracking as he bounced off the ground, trees doing little to slow him down.

A screech rang out from where he had flown to, a pale shockwave bursting out from him, and everything that heard it died, it was like something inside them had just ceased.

The animals simply ceased, collapsing onto the ground dead, the grass wilted almost instantly, still a vibrant green, but they all bent over from their own weight.

I erected a barrier, a black dome encompassing the whole area, better to prevent anyone from getting close if he was going to just kill everything around us, and the Shinigami charged back into my face.

His horns were bigger, his robes flowed like smoke now, his knife was covered in death.

I immediately teleported away, replacing myself with a star, which exploded once the Shinigami cut through it.

But as his form was covered in fire, I stayed back, there was something going on here, for one thing, his Divine Power was increasing even now.

Where did he get more Divinity from?

There was no real reason to store Divine Power, all that meant was that you could not access it fully, so why would you do that?

The only answer I could come too was that this wasn't his main body, it would explain neatly why he didn't react to my words, and why he was so... lifeless.

No anger, no fear, even his movements were efficient, no flourish or wasted movement, just effective.

As the smoke cleared, the Shinigami stared at me impassively, before opening its mouth again.

But this time, there was no screech, instead, a beam of pale white light shot out of its mouth and slammed into my godly body, my dodge coming a bit too late as the light pierced through my shoulder.

It felt like nothing, no pain, just an absence of feeling in general.

And now I couldn't move my arm.

Easy solution, I just ripped my arm and let it fall to the ground.

But my new arm had the same problem, it was unresponsive.

Uh oh...

Time for the meteors, then.

The dome turned into a cylinder, stretching up beyond the sky, allowing me to summon some big ass rocks from space.

I manifested a spear in my hand and threw it at the Shinigami, who cut through it with little difficulty.

But guess what, fucker. I can make like 2000 more of those.

The Shinigami's hands blurred, but the theory that he was mentally limited was further supported by how easily it fell for the obvious trap.

The Divine Meteors landed with all the fury of an apocalypse, the debris and heat spewing out from the open top of the barrier like a nuclear explosion.

I finally did some damage, his robes were torn, and his head was dented and burned, his right horn was missing.

With a dull crack of displaced air, my arm plunged into his chest while he was recovering, it did little to slow him down, his arm already moving to stab me with his tanto, but I found what I was looking for.

The Divine Power that empowered him flowed from somewhere else, and it was still increasing.

I couldn't cut off the stream without matching it, and that would turn this into a war of attrition.

So instead, I followed it, disappearing from the mortal world into whatever place this came from.

What the fuck.

I will be taking this as complete validation of my hate for the Uzumaki Seals.

The Shinigami was not alive in the traditional sense, it was a seal construct, its movements and actions based on predetermined instructions, but the scale of it was immense, it was a ball of seal the size of a mountain.

I just stared at it for a few minutes, trying to decipher what the fuck this was meant to do.

But I snapped myself out of it after a while, this was a testament to humanity, creating a being that was strong enough to fight a god.

It answered some questions, but it opened up so many more, like for example, why the fuck did the Uzumaki not use it to save themselves?

Or where was it getting its divine energy from?

The second was a very pressing question, because that meant there was something else powering it, so I checked around for where the Divine Power was coming from.

And with a subtle pop, I followed the trail yet again.

Well, this was not what Kakashi was expecting to do today, but when a massive plume of smoke was seen in the distance, it wasn't unreasonable to send literally everyone to check it out, if it was close or massive enough to be seen from Konoha then it needed to be looked at.

So now, about 200 hundred Shinobi were tensely staring at a perfectly circular crater in the ground.

Oh, and the sky was full of stars, it was kind of eerie seeing the sky above slowly turning pitch black the closer you got to the crater.

So, all in all, an average day when Wave was involved, at least in the amount of stress it caused him, he thought he was used to it by now, but clearly the god The Order worshiped had it out for him.

"What do you think, Kakashi?" Tsunade asked calmly.

"Hmmmmm..." He hummed in thought. "We made a good choice by allying with The Order."

Tsunade massaged her forehead, giving him a long-suffering look.

"Anko, you were sent to accompany Ayumu to the Shrine." She turned to Anko, who straightened up under her gaze. "What did you see?"

Anko glanced towards the crater before focusing back on the Hokage.

"Ayumu put on one of the masks, summoning the Shinigami, he tried talking to it, but it didn't respond, after a few attempts, it suddenly cut off his head and tried stabbing me." Anko recounted, her voice steady. "But it froze just before it could reach me, I think Ayumu had something to do with that, he picked up his head and put it back on his neck, and then he told me to leave, so I did."

Tsunade was in full-blown Hokage-mode now, her eyes narrowed as she contemplated the situation.

"After I started running, the sky turned into... " Anko gestured at the sky above her. "...that, and I saw a massive humanoid form fall from the sky, crushing the temple underneath it, shortly after that, the barrier went up right behind me."

"Anything else?" Tsunade asked evenly.

"No, Hokage-sama."

The Hokage nodded in acknowledgement, turning around and observing the destruction.

"Would the massive figure you saw match the description of the 'Watcher'?" She suddenly asked.

Anko hesitated for a moment, clearly unsure of her answer.

"I only saw it for a second." She said eventually. "But it did have black skin, covered in small lights, I didn't see its full face, but the one eye I saw was golden."

"That's worrying..." Kakashi muttered under his breath.

"Yes it is, seems the Order's god is a lot more present than any other religion would claim." Tsunade sighed. "Well... I suppose it doesn't change much."

She turned towards the rest of the group.

"Set up a perimeter, and get samples from the crater, organic and non-organic matter alike, then run them through every analysis test we have, check the ground underneath for disturbances and anything unusual." She ordered calmly. "I want a preliminary report on what could have caused this crater before tomorrow morning."

There were nods all around, everyone scrambling to complete their jobs.

And for Kakashi? He was considering taking on another genin team, everything that kept him away from the Order was starting to seem more and more like a good idea.
